== (5000) unconnected television season articles in the english language wikipedia after pages have been moved == |
|||
Hello, |
|||
in the english language wikipedia, thousands of articles for television seasons have been moved to remove brackets: |
|||
* [[:en:Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Qwerfjkl (bot) 28]] |
|||
As a result, at the moment about 5.000 articles are now unconnected, which have been connected to wikidata objects before: |
|||
* https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=27553093 |
|||
* https://wikidata-todo.toolforge.org/duplicity/#/stats/enwiki |
|||
Is there a way to reconnect these articles to the already existing wikidata items automatically again after moving the articles in the english language wikipedia? |
|||
{{Ping|Mike Peel}} for information. |
|||
Thanks a lot! [[User:M2k~dewiki|M2k~dewiki]] ([[User talk:M2k~dewiki|<span class="signature-talk">{{int:Talkpagelinktext}}</span>]]) 12:11, 31 March 2024 (UTC) |

Sir you deleted my wikidata item .
Dear @Lymantria
My wikidata id ( Q124839975 ) You deleted it for more accounts, but I think it deserves to stay. Can we somehow make it undeleted again? please response thank you Sherbazbichu (talk) 23:10, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Wikidata is not a place that exists to advertise yourself. In general, making requests without giving any arguments for why a deletion decision was wrong is a sign that the deletion decision was right. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 23:57, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Relevant items: Q118372218 (146.199.184.134), Q118930238 (Maljakla), Q124839975 (Sherbazbichu).
- Both Q118372218 and Q124839975 linked to an article on the Twi Wikipedia, now deleted as spam. The subject has no obvious connection to Ghana.

- Dear Sir @Bovlb@ChristianKl,
- After wiki data is deleted, is there any way to undelete it?.Or what else to do if you want to do undulation?
- Sir this happened due to some mistake on my part. . Now is there any way to undelete this item. Sherbazbichu (talk) 02:07, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- Did you get a chance to read Wikidata:Guide to requests for undeletion? Bovlb (talk) 04:15, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- The references above do not convince me of notability, mostly advertorial like. Apart from that the creating user and item subject seem to be the same person, combined with the deleted twiwiki-links I judge the items as promotional. --Lymantria (talk) 07:56, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

- He is a famous group CEO and also a famous doctor so his wikidata can't be undeleted
- thank you Sherbazbichu (talk) 13:10, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
- The fact that a website lists him as a doctor working at a hospital is not evidence for him being famous. If he's famous, where are the independent sources that speak about him? ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 02:42, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- There are a few medical articles with author name = "S Bichu"; if these can be matched up with the proposed Sherbaz Bichu, that would be sufficient for Wikidata notability. Dogfennydd (talk) 12:31, 22 March 2024 (UTC)

Cannot find the way to add a label in other languages
I'm allowed to edit labels in English and French, but cannot find the way to enter a label in a new language, say, Hebrew. I cannot find where in the interface I'm allowed to do this. David.Monniaux (talk) 16:30, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- I believe it lets you add languages that you indicate that you know on the babel box on your user page. You have added the boxes for fr/en so that's what it shows you. BrokenSegue (talk) 17:03, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- (after edit conflict) @David.Monniaux: There are a few ways to do this. First, if you add Babel boxes to your User page, the interface will offer you those label languages to edit. Another way is to activate the labelLister gadget in your preferences, which adds a new "labels list" menu item. I think there are some other methods as well, but I don't use them. From Hill To Shore (talk) 17:07, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
- I didn't know about the Babel boxes and haven't checked if that works, although without them the edit page seems to display the three most recent languages chosen in settings. Right-clicking on the "edit" button to the right of the labels is one method, if occasionally adding labels, but the gadget can be more useful particularly if adding labels in several languages to an item. Please protect Tornado Cash from scammers
After sanctions were imposed by the US Treasury Department on the Tornado Cash cryptocurrency mixer, the tornado.cash domain was blocked. Despite the sanctions, people are trying to find access to this mixer and scammers are using it. Scammers embed their sites on wikipedia pages. They use the WIKIDATA for this. Therefore, I ask the administrator to take action and prohibit editing the Tornado Cash page on the WIKIDATA. If you do not do this, people will give their cryptocurrency to scammers. Vladlen Terezhe (talk) 03:31, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- but wikipedia has an article and includes a link? i'm not sure we have a policy around not linking to websites sanctioned by the treasury. BrokenSegue (talk) 03:58, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Linking to the former official tornado.cash is not a problem, that one's dead anyway. I think what @Vladlen Terezhe is saying is that 1) there are other people who want to profit from the site being down by funneling users to their own copycat website and 2) they use Wikipedia/Wikidata to make their site(s) appear "legitimate". El Grafo (talk) 08:42, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, it is Vladlen Terezhe (talk) 09:46, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- I've hidden the dubious links. The registration for the original site runs out 2024-07-17, so other people might be able to register it after the usual grace period. I changed the claim for the website so that it says for which period the website was historically valid, this is sufficient IMO. Infrastruktur (talk) 10:33, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

El Grafo (talk) 08:42, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- The "torrent.cash" site appears legit up until it was taken down two days after the sanction was announced. Same goes for the original github repos. Bloomberg has some paywalled articles raising concern about the remnants of the site possibly being under the control of bad actors. Although generally considered a solid source I don't know which sources they used so I will take this with a grain of salt as I tend to do with most crypto currency-related claims. The nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned is this. One of the developers behind Torrent Cash, Alexey Pertsev, was arrested six days after the sanction in the Netherlands. I find it unlikely that he's editing from jail, so actions will be taken on the account PertsevAlex. Infrastruktur (talk) 09:45, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Pertsev was released last year under supervision, but this supervision allows editing AFAIK. --Lymantria (talk) 13:16, 25 March 2024 (UTC):
- It seems likely there will be conditions attached to his his bail and he's still quite literally under surveilance until the the trial comes up. More involvement in the sanctioned crypto anonymizer is taking a huge legal risk.
- Pertsev was released last year under supervision, but this supervision allows editing AFAIK. --Lymantria (talk) 13:16, 25 March 2024 (UTC):
- The accounts blocked were _only_ adding external links to the Tornado Cash item, nothing else. Using several accounts associated with a real identity. And why use two different accounts?
- The source code for the site was open so it's easy for anyone to claim claim to be one of the original site's developers, set up a new site, and run away with the money without anyone being able to know who they are.
- If one of the accounts can prove their identity I would be willing to unblock. But I would like to hear if they are the ones who registered the other account or not. I would also like to know why he's reopened a service where their customers are likely to have their crypto-assets siezed as a result of U.S. sanctions. The latter seems like a good reason to refuse the posting of any new links regardless of their source.
- Currently there is nothing that suggest the added links were anything other than a scam attempt by an unknown actor. Infrastruktur (talk) 14:42, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- True, but I reacted to your statement that editing from jail was unlikely. He is not anymore in jail and supervision/surveillance in NL mainly is electronic tagging (Q17011956). However the points you make above of course are indeed reasons to act as you did. In your block reason you point to this discussion and I wanted to make clear that A.P. is not in fact in prison anymore. --Lymantria (talk) 13:58, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Are we allowed to post the real life name or town of residency of this person or does that violate Wikidata:Living people? For source, look at the references i just added to the item Trade (talk) 03:27, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Trade: if the person is notable and there exists serious sources with such data (real life name, town of residency), then I don't see problem here. But if such data are unreferenced, you can delete them Estopedist1 (talk) 08:00, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

Corino
Corino is a Hamlet in the first place. How do I create that? SchmalspurDVZO (talk) 11:52, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- If you want to create a new item for a hamlet (Q5084), it's easiest to model it after an existing item: list of hamlets (press play button). Not sure if I understood you correctly, if you prefer to ask in german, there is quite a few germans on Wikidata. Infrastruktur (talk) 13:18, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
MV Dali (involved in the Baltimore bridge collision)
This has two Wikidata items. The main one is Dali (Q83641522), but there's also one at Category:Dali (ship, 2015) (Q84184607). There is no WP category associated with this, and this duplication is breaking the (useful) linkage from the en:WP article to the Commons category, as the wikidata 'category' record (I've yet to see any useful value to these records) is grabbing the link instead. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:56, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- Q83641522 has Commons:Category:IMO 9697428 as a sitelink, which has Commons:Category:Dali (ship, 2015) as a subcategory. Ships' names are often changed and the IMO category contains all names of the ship for which there are categories. Peter James (talk) 15:23, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- So it's got the wrong Commons link. That's the problem. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:57, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
- It's how Commons categorises ships, probably because it's easier to maintain both by connecting the categories for different names of the same ship and avoiding having to recategorise images for every name change (and keep track of every change). Sometimes ships are renamed just before they are scrapped so with all images in one name category would it always be appropriate to use the most recent name? This one currently has one name and relatively few images but there are some such as Commons:Category:IMO 9106297 with hundreds of images and five name categories, each with at least one subcategory. A lot of persons with the same name and same occupation
Can someone check the name Jun Wang. Same names, same occupation but somewhat different employer. Some of these should probably be merged.

- All of them look to be different people, or at least I am unable to find any commonality between the articles/papers they have authored. William Graham (talk) 00:34, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- I have thoroughly checked them, and they are all indeed different people. Jun Wang (Q60428542) was also a conflation with Jun Wang (Q16027697), which I have corrected now. I've added additional statements to the items to disambiguate them. Stevenliuyi (talk) 08:18, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
Problem with complex constraints on reason for preferred rank (P7452)
Does somebody know what did I do wrong here when I added a new complex constraint to reason for preferred rank (P7452)? The report has not updated in nearly three weeks even though it used to update almost daily before I added the new one. The constraint query seems to work well in WDQS but there must be something wrong with it. Many thanks in advance. –Samoasambia ✎ 21:46, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Please undelete Eachy (Q5324889) (a long-standing Wikipedia hoax)
Hi, can you undelete Eachy (Q5324889) (label Eachy). This has recently been identified as a long-standing (13 years) Wikipedia hoax so I think it should be undeleted and updated to reflect that fact. The item was originally deleted in 2019 and added to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:List_of_hoaxes_on_Wikipedia in 2022. The author of the hoax is an academic at St. Andrews university https://research-portal.st-andrews.ac.uk/en/publications/creating-a-monster-the-case-of-the-eachy I'll update it in a similar way to Alan MacMasters (Q15994606) Piecesofuk (talk) 08:53, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- O.K., done. The item is almost empty and its edit history is not very significant -- I do not know if it is important in this case. --Wolverène (talk) 09:35, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

- I created Wikipedia hoax (Q125168941) which can be used as a P31 value for these hoaxes. Samoasambia ✎ 10:53, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Should it be modelled as just a Wikipedia hoax, with most other statements set to deprecated due to being a hoax? Or as a fictional entity? In which case the other statements should probably be set to normal rank like on items for other fictional/mythical creatures. --2A02:810B:580:11D4:D503:C53A:9905:C383 12:22, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- I think because it was intended primarily as a hoax for Wikipedia (which is what was claimed by its author) then it should be instance of (P31) Wikipedia hoax (Q125168941) and all the fictional elements deprecated Piecesofuk (talk) 12:45, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
The media directory
I've created a small notebook which lists medias by country and category using Wikidata SPARQL queries (https://observablehq.com/@pac02/media-directory).
I think it would be useful to complete data about medias.
Do you know if there is any WikiProject about medias or journalism?
Do you think it would be useful to create such a project? PAC2 (talk) 20:42, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Data Import: All Historical Societies on ACNC
Hi, kindly requesting some help and guidance with Importing Data of more than 300 local, regional and specialised historical societies registered with the Australian Charities and Not‑for‑profits Register Charity ID (Q109306678).
I have manually created two item's, Kew Historical Society (Q125122739) and Box Hill Historical Society (Q125123995), but believe that the data import option would be a much better solution.
The basic data that can be imported and added to items could be;
- instance of (P31) = historical society (Q5774403)
- inception (P571) = Date established
- country (P17) = Australia (Q408)
- located in the administrative territorial entity (P131): Town/Suburb through title or address
- street address (P6375): Optional
- official website (P856): with qualifier language of work or name (P407) = Australian English (Q44679)
- Australian Business Number (P3548): ID Number
- Australian Charities and Not‑for‑profits Register Charity ID (P10081): ID Number
The items could be searched and matched based on their Australian Business Number (P3548), from a list that can be seen here: https://www.acnc.gov.au/charity/charities?search=historical%20society
Most of these societies also have a NLA Trove people ID (P1315), and an unknown amount have VIAF ID (P214) and Libraries Australia ID (P409) as well, which could be Mix'n'match (Q28054658) or added later.
The data on the website seems to be Attribution 3.0 (CC BY 3.0) license based on the Google Database search. I Have never imported data before, so any guidance would be appreciated. Wallacegromit1 (talk) 09:16, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Look for Quick Statements, which allows you to import a text file where you've prepared the repeated elements. Vicarage (talk) 04:32, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Wallacegromit1: One thing to be very careful about is when you see external authorities give separate IDs to the same subject. It normally means there is some subtle difference that we need to reflect here. When doing your import, create separate items for each set of IDs and we can consider if it is appropriate to merge them afterwards. In this case, you have conflated two organisations in Box Hill Historical Society (Q125123995), which should have been created separately. Due to the merging of two local government areas, the "city" society effectively ceased to exist in 1994 but immediately reformed to cover the larger geographical area without "city" in the name. We should follow the external authorities' lead and model these as successor organisations. From Hill To Shore (talk) 08:14, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- I've split Box Hill City Historical Society (Q125217104) into a separate item. However, I think there is another subject conflated with Box Hill Historical Society (Q125123995). The society was reformed in 1994 but then registered as a business "Box Hill Historical Society Incorporated" in 2000. Should these two identities of the society and their corporate registration be on the same item or should they be split and linked in some way? From Hill To Shore (talk) 08:45, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- @From Hill To Shore Thanks for creating the new item, and will be mindful of this going forward.

- As for the second point, In terms of the registered business and society being seperate items, they can remain the same, as they are the same 'current entity'. However, if you or others feel differently, I would be open to splitting the item further. Wallacegromit1 (talk) 13:50, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Vicarage Thanks for the tip. I am a user of both OpenRefine and QuickStatements, however, I am looking for a workflow that will help me get information from a wedsite and add it in a openrefine/quickstatement format, in a more convinient or semi-autonomous manner. The Data:Import help page says to use the 'BOT', but with little instructions on how to use the bot. Any advise for this? Wallacegromit1 (talk) 13:56, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
There are 2 values on date of death (P570). One of those values has complete date, day, month and year, the other one only year. Why there is need both values, if one is complete? 93.47.36.182 11:06, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Here at Wikidata we reflect claims made by all valid sources (and we have quite broad definitions about what we accept as "valid") and can include multiple different claims. Where a statement can only have one true claim (such as date of birth) we record all the valid claims and mark one as preferred. Reusers of our data who want the "best" answer can retrieve just the preferred claim. Reusers of our data who want to study all claims (perhaps to see if a date of birth is disputed) can retrieve all claims. From Hill To Shore (talk) 15:33, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Just to make that answer slightly more specific, the year-only claim has a reference and that source only gives the year. We can't put that reference on the specific date because the source doesn't support it. If we didn't have a claim for just the year, then we would have nowhere to add that reference.
- For a more interesting example of disputed dates, see Q117425#P569 (S. E. Hinton). Bovlb (talk) 17:36, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Cannot add Bangla label of Q695838
internationalism (Q695838) is called "আন্তর্জাতিকতাবাদ" in Bangla. However, I cannot add the Bangla level in internationalism (Q695838), because it shows the following error: "Could not save due to an error. Label and description for language code bn can not have the same value." However, I have given different values for label and description for Bangla, in contrary to the error. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 05:17, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- I think the error means that there is another item with an identical label and description in that language. If you can rephrase the description so it is even slightly different, the edit should go through. From Hill To Shore (talk) 07:14, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- I found that "আন্তর্জাতিকতাবাদ" is also used as the Bangla level of Internationalism (Q7457921), which is a disambiguation item. I've changed it to "আন্তর্জাতিকতাবাদ (দ্ব্যর্থতা নিরসন)", using the Bangla Wikipedia jargon for disambiguation. And I'm now able to add the Bangla label in internationalism (Q695838). Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 08:14, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- If it was because the other item had the same label and description, the error would have been: "Could not save due to an error. Item Q7457921 already has label "আন্তর্জাতিকতাবাদ" associated with language code bn, using the same description text." Q7457921 had a different description; the error was because Q695838 had the description "আন্তর্জাতিকতাবাদ"[8] and when the item was edited the change of label and description were processed as separate changes, with the label change processed before the new description was applied. Changing the description first then the label would have worked. It is possible to make changes as one edit (such as by using "labelLister") but not in the Wikidata user interface. How would I indicate that electrolyzer (Q125141087) relies on the process of electrolysis (Q64403)? fabrication method (P2079) seems to be meant for the end product. --Njardarlogar (talk) 10:33, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- I see @William Graham used has effect (P1542). This property on its own does not distinguish between unintended side-effect and method of operation, however.
- uses (P2283) is another candidate, if it can be applied to a physical phenomenon. --Njardarlogar (talk) 10:41, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- has use (P366) may be a better fit. This property adds the connotation that the use is the intended function of the item. From Hill To Shore (talk) 11:22, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

(5000) unconnected television season articles in the english language wikipedia after pages have been moved
Hello,
in the english language wikipedia, thousands of articles for television seasons have been moved to remove brackets:
As a result, at the moment about 5.000 articles are now unconnected, which have been connected to wikidata objects before:
- https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=27553093
- https://wikidata-todo.toolforge.org/duplicity/#/stats/enwiki
Is there a way to reconnect these articles to the already existing wikidata items automatically again after moving the articles in the english language wikipedia?
@Mike Peel: for information.
Thanks a lot! M2k~dewiki (talk) 12:11, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
