Motivation[edit]
Add a viable authority control for Switzerland. The previous RERO ID (obsolete) (P3065) identifier is now obsolete, however still a part of the VIAF cluster. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Spinster300 (talk • contribs).

- Comment from RERO, via email: As mentioned by Nicolas Prongué in his message of September 2022, there are no "new RERO+ identifiers", or at least it doesn't necessarily make sense to add them to Wikidata. There are MEF identifiers, but they are only clusters taken from VIAF with data coming directly from IdRef and GND. No authority data are created or controlled directly by RERO+ other than links to documents in RERO ILS. In conclusion, we now employ IdRef and GND identifiers. - Dear Martin, the links would surely benefit readers and researchers living in Switzerland, as the RERO database describes authors and subjects of documents held by libraries across several Swiss cantonal libraries. I would argue that providing library resources per country is the most basic function of the authority control template; I hope this encourages future additions of several other authority databases maintained by other countries' library networks, especially countries in Africa, Asia, and South America. Comment The phrase "No authority data are created or controlled directly by RERO+ other than links to documents in RERO ILS", united with some relevant data quality problems (see the dates in https://bib.rero.ch/global/entities/remote/6643303 and https://bib.rero.ch/global/entities/remote/2247419) as of now make me think that we should at least reflect a bit more on the pros and cons of creating the property. --Epìdosis 13:22, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
