Motivation[edit]

Peertube seems to be a up-and-coming alternative for video hosting and monetization in distributed nature. I am not sure if I did the regex correctly, so do correct me. Greatder (talk) 16:47, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

  • I would  Support this, as the conversation to have a generalist ActivityPub address property did not bring a satisfying alternative, imho: ActivityPub is one protocol, but there are a variety of usage that would deserve their properties, just like we don't have only URL (P2699), but also official website (P856), official blog URL (P1581), SPARQL endpoint URL (P5305), etc. I think Mastodon, its forks, and the other compatible softwares with similar core features should use Mastodon address (P4033), (renamed "Mastodon-like address"? ^^), and that Peertube, its forks, and the other compatible softwares with similar core features should have another property. Quoting Stéphane Bortzmeyer (Q20742941), "It's often said that the federiverse works thanks to ActivityPub, but this is so summarized as to be misleading: a program that knew only ActivityPub would be incapable of interacting with anyone in the federiverse."[1]. Ping to the participants to that conversation: @Abbe98, Pintoch, NMaia, Nemo_bis, Valerio_Bozzolan:. -- Maxlath (talk) 11:55, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps it could be generalized as Microblog/Video activitypub address/handle? Greatder (talk) 22:51, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Maxlath:, any update in your opinion based on the response? Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 13:37, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ZI Jony, Greatder:: "Microblog/Video activitypub address", or maybe "Microblog/Video Fediverse address"(?), would already be an improvement over just "Mastodon". All the associated services could be in aliases of their respective properties ("Mastodon", "PeerTube", etc) to make the regroupments explicit. This holds as long as we can come up with non-conflicting descriptions for groups of compatible softwares ("Video streaming Fediverse address" for OwnCast+compatible, "Image sharing Fediverse address" for PixelFed+compatible, etc). But that might break and create issues when/if competing implementations stop being compatible(?). For now, that seems to be a reasonable bet. -- Maxlath (talk) 15:05, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support. --Erokhin (talk) 12:06, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support I don't see a problem with adding these URIs to the P4033, but it's ok to have another property where to put PeerTube-like addresses. It might be useful to draw a line somewhere: for example, a threads.net account would not be included on account of its limited functionality, while an AP-enabled Wordpress blog might qualify. According to https://fediverse.party/en/miscellaneous/ there are 9 main mediasharing fediverse applications: Owncast, CastoPod, FChannel, Minipub, Podverse, Vidzy, Funkwhale, PeerTube and Pixelfed (soon Loops too?). I've not tested whether a PeerTube account can successfully interact with all of these, but if so that could be one criterion. Nemo 15:54, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support Not only is the argument in itself good, but it would also make things like listing different Fediverse handles in an infobox or query much easier. Ainali (talk) 19:13, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support Sounds good to me. We have Facebook account, Foo account, Bar account, and they all use the same underlying standard (HTTP+HTML) and we have those split for reasons too. Egon Willighagen (talk) 21:21, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Greatder, Maxlath, Erokhin, Nemo bis, Ainali, Egon Willighagen: ✓ Done: PeerTube channel address (P12622) --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 14:44, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Maxlath @Erokhin @Nemo bis @Ainali @Egon Willighagen @Abbe98 @Pintoch @NMaia @Valerio Bozzolan I just realized a issue. We did not decide whether the address to be filled should be account address or channel address? (channels are a subsection of accounts). Greatder (talk) 07:40, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
