Harassment consultation[edit]

Please help translate to your language

The Community Advocacy team the Wikimedia Foundation has opened a consultation on the topic of harassment on Meta. The consultation period is intended to run for one month from today, November 16, and end on December 17. Please share your thoughts there on harassment-related issues facing our communities and potential solutions. (Note: this consultation is not intended to evaluate specific cases of harassment, but rather to discuss the problem of harassment itself.)

Regards, Community Advocacy, Wikimedia Foundation

Editing of sitewide CSS/JS is only possible for interface administrators from now[edit]

(Please help translate to your language)

Hi all,

as announced previously, permission handling for CSS/JS pages has changed: only members of the interface-admin (Interface administrators) group, and a few highly privileged global groups such as stewards, can edit CSS/JS pages that they do not own (that is, any page ending with .css or .js that is either in the MediaWiki: namespace or is another user's user subpage). This is done to improve the security of readers and editors of Wikimedia projects. More information is available at Creation of separate user group for editing sitewide CSS/JS. If you encounter any unexpected problems, please contact me or file a bug.

Family names and disambiguation pages[edit]

  • In fiwiki, lists of people with the same family name are frequently included in disambiguation pages.
  • In enwiki, these are sometimes on a separate surname article.

Sample: Q7865595 and Q28146213 for "Elomaa".

It seems that some users of fiwiki want interwikis to the English Wikipedia article, even if they aren't disambiguation pages.

There are two ways to do this:

  1. One adds a local (old-style) interwiki to the fiwiki disambiguation page. This would have to be repeated for each page.
  2. One adapts the template Template:Interwikis from P1889 (family names) (Q56475678) and adds it to fi:Template:Täsmennyssivu. This way all disambiguation pages would get such interwiki links.

Note: This is just an outline of possible uses of Wikidata items and statements. Obviously, it's a question for fiwiki editors if they want to apply it. --- Jura 08:33, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

  • @Stryn: Did you note the above? BTW, I don't edit fiwiki. --- Jura 16:55, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
  • Nope, I have not been very active here lately and didn't see your message before. What is Template:Interwikis from P1889 (family names) and did you do it and separating these surname pages without any discussion? Stryn (talk) 17:08, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
    • I didn't separate any surname pages. I just removed sitelinks to articles about surnames from items for disambiguation pages. The template is something you can use on fiwiki if you want disambiguation pages to link to surname articles. --- Jura 17:11, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
