Wikidata:Requests for deletions

From Wikidata
(Redirected from Wikidata:RfD)
Jump to: navigation, search

Items which do not meet Wikidata's notability policy can be deleted. Please nominate items for deletions on this page under the "Requests" section below. If it is obvious vandalism, just add the page here (gadget available), or ping an administrator to delete it. Contact can also be made with an administrator in #wikidata connect.
Note: If the item you are nominating is quite empty (with a few interwikis), you can check if the item is a duplicate using Special:ItemDisambiguation.

Please do not request the deletion of merged items. Per this request for comment, merged items should now be redirected.

Before deleting items, check to ensure that they are not in use. This can be easily done with the "links" link below the header of each request.

Do not try to pre-emptively delete an item because its page is up for deletion on a Wikimedia project. The link will be removed by bots and reported here in the future if a deletion takes place.

Please use {{Q}} the first time you mention an item.

Please use Wikidata:Properties for deletion if you want to nominate a property for deletion.

This is not the place to request undeletion. Please use Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard instead for undeletion requests.

If help is needed with the merging of items, see the instructions at Help:Merge.

Q28038512[edit]

@Jura1: Can you comment why you created this list as a subpage of an item talk page? --Pasleim (talk) 17:17, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
It's not entirely clear where lists at Wikidata should reside. My initial attempt was at talk pages of associated items. List: would probably be best.
--- Jura 18:49, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Just put it as a WikiProject subpage. A subpage of a talk page of an item (which is only a redirect) is absurd! Steak (talk) 12:51, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

Padma Vibhushan in civil service (Q30143969): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)

This is a duplicate of Padma Vibhushan (Q672392). The award is award is awarded for exemplary service to India, there are no specific awards ever given separately for various fields. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk) 10:35, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

@GerardM: Can you comment? --Pasleim (talk) 16:30, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Symbol delete vote.svg Delete. This item purports to be a subset of Padma Vibhushan (Q672392), but with zero sitelinks and zero sources, it's quite clear that this is not notable. Since this item tries to be a subset rather than a duplicate of Padma Vibhushan (Q672392), deletion is better than merge. We can re-create this item if there are reliable sources that distinguish this from the superset topic. Deryck Chan (talk) 16:43, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
Check Wikipedia ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Padma_Vibhushan_award_recipients
@GerardM: I tend to agree with the nominator here. The award subcategory doesn't seem to be a well-defined entity in its own right and doesn't have independent notability. It does not serve any structural purpose that Padma Vibhushan (Q672392) (perhaps with qualifier) can't already handle. Deryck Chan (talk) 12:52, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
It is not a subcategory. When memory serves me well, they are part of the "Padma Vibhushan award". So there is no problem in the first place. Thanks, GerardM (talk) 13:18, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
I don't think that's right. My understanding is that these people are awarded the Padma Vibhushan for their work in civil service. There is no separate award called "Padma Vibhushan in civil service", unlike the various Nobel prizes. Deryck Chan (talk) 12:29, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
Yes, the Wikipedia list article has a column for category of their work, but as Deryck said, the award title is no altered, it remains just "Padma Vibhushan", but may be in the award citation, there is a mention on their field of service. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk) 16:03, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

novalue[edit]

novalue (given name) (Q19970288): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)

n/a (silent film) (Q21686005): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs | discussion)

no dialogue (Q36610580): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs) Should be replaced with special value novalue or, for silent movies with intertitles, replaced with the true language. --Pasleim (talk) 13:45, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

  • I think it's being done for the first one (the item makes it easier to add the statements), but the other ones are not synonym with no-value. No dialog means the film has no spoken dialogue. It could also be that someone speaks but none understand the explanation, but this isn't meant here.
Deletion of these wouldn't add any value to Wikidata, but their existence should explain it to people, even those not interested in dialogir.
    --- Jura 14:55, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
The value added is for example for people who to create a list of all languages that they don't end up with language "N/A". --Pasleim (talk) 17:47, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
I think we should be able to work this out in one way or the other without deleting the items. It all depends on the query and application. When looking at ISO 639-3 they do need to end up with this.
--- Jura 07:30, 10 October 2017 (UTC)
Symbol delete vote.svg Delete As those are only used with original language of work (P364) which is defined clearly to be DELETED in the near future, there's no need to create too lots of faux BCP47 things. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 12:16, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Temporarily Symbol keep vote.svg Keep n/a (silent film) (Q21686005) because it's used by a lot of items and the associated property is used by many infoboxes. Symbol delete vote.svg Delete no dialogue (Q36610580) as it has only 1 use and the labels are untranslated. Symbol delete vote.svg Delete novalue (given name) (Q19970288) as it has already been completely disused. Eventually migrate all and Symbol delete vote.svg Delete. Deryck Chan (talk) 14:59, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
    • For items in use, the number of uses and lack of translations are not valid reasons for deletion.
      --- Jura 06:31, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
@Jura1: So the possible replacement is still a valid reason, isn't that?! --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:30, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Pictogram voting comment.svg Comment From the edit history of Q12628328 it seems that even contributors who attempt specialize in language properties don't get the suggested use of "no value" and the use of Q21686005 fortunately re-added makes things clear.
    --- Jura 06:25, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
@Jura1: That's another reason that I now support deletion of P364, since that property can only white wash edit war (Q764327). --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 08:24, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
The edits on Brcko u Zagrebu (Q12628328) were only possible because there are 2 language properties and 2 ways to indicate novalue. It's clear that if we stay with this model edits like on Brcko u Zagrebu (Q12628328) will happen again and again and causing edit wars, maintenance works and headache for data users. If we change to 1 language property and 1 way to indicate novalue we get rid of all these issues. --Pasleim (talk) 12:17, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
Let's try to focus on the question at hand (whatever property is being used): how to indicate the language of a silent film? Croatian and "novalue" clearly doesn't help us identify what it is. n/a (silent film) (Q21686005) makes it clear for everybody and it's the recommended way of doing so. Obviously, no approach is comes naturally to new users, especially if they don't bother looking at descriptions.
    --- Jura 13:09, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
I don't think at all that "Croatian" and "n/a" is clear for everybody. As I proposed above, for silent movies only the true language should be used (language of intertitles, language of the actors even if not recorded) because both P364 and P407 refer to the language of work, not to the languge of spoken words. That a silent movie is silent is independent of the information about the language of work. --Pasleim (talk) 10:05, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
"novalue" you suggest is similar to the "n/a" you don't think is clear. The solution we currently have is "original language .. " = "n/a (silent film)". With the description "use with property:P364 (original language of work) for silent films". That does seem much clearer. At least if one reads. As for Croatian, maybe one should specify what it applies to. Maybe we can work on your original problem/query/application instead: where do you think people shouldn't get language "N/A"?
    --- Jura 04:14, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
@snipre: --59.63.248.148 23:04, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
  • @Pasleim, Jura1, Liuxinyu970226, Deryck Chan: I don't know why I was ping: as stated by some contributors, the WikiProject Movies documentation "is fairly clean, complete and even noise can be removed without much problem" so everything about modeling subtitled movies should be explained there.
The only good solution is to get ride of this mix of original language/work language which is here clearly showing a weakness:
If a dubbed movie used both language/work language properties, how can we distinguish between a dubbed movie and a subtitled movie ?
The case of n/a (silent film) (Q21686005) is quite simple: why don't use instance of (P31): silent film instead of trying to use a complex modeling which is not understood ? Instead of creating unknown languages like n/a (silent film) (Q21686005) better simplify the system with a good use of instance of (P31) in combination with one language property.
Then I am quite sure the WikiProject Movies will provide the good explanation about how a subtitled movie has to be declared in a short time. Snipre (talk) 11:23, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't see this follow up. These genes are either deprecated, replaced, or merged by NCBI. See for example when you visit the NCBI page (using the entrez ID): https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/105373274. "Gene ID: 105373274, discontinued on 14-Sep-2017. This record was replaced with Gene ID: 388761". The new item exists here. None of these items have links. Pasleim, not sure which heavily used items you are talking about. The item you linked is a protein domain, not a gene and does not have a deletion request. Gstupp (talk) 19:30, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
The deletion request was in the second "Batch 5" at Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions/Archive/2017/09/28#Delete_deprecated_Interpro_Items_2. Why do your bot make that?

These are protein domain or family items that are deprecated by Interpro. See for example: http://www.ebi.ac.uk/interpro/entry/IPR031132 . Many were merged or split, but it is very difficult to get that information from Interpro, and so new items were created and these items should be deleted. They are no longer used by any other items. It's a bit odd the none seems to be sure what happens. Maybe the operator knows why items get listed here while they are still in used (see further up, comments by one person while someone else operated the bot to edit [1]).
Deletion isn't really consistent with what we do with other items.
I think they should be set to deprecated. Some of the items cross reference identifiers and/or were used by other items. If we merely delete them, people have no possibility to find out what happened with them.

I am questioning the need of this subclass item of Wikimedia list article (Q13406463). If we keep it, there is no reason to not have also items for person lists, event lists or whatever can be listed. Fine but one element is linked to the wikipedia articles while the other is linked to the wikisource entry. So you cannot enter the wikipedia article in the wikisource one and vice versa. So how do you establish a connection between the two ? Hektor (talk) 09:51, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
This happens with all books: the Wikipedia article is always about the work, Wikisource always has the text of a specific edition of said work. -Ash Crow (talk) 21:12, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
I understand, but since wikipedia is attached to the work and wikisource to an edition, it kills any possibility to establish through wikidata a link between the wikipedia articles and the wikisource text of the work. Hektor (talk) 10:00, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Symbol delete vote.svg Delete. "Multi-sport" isn't an identifiable entity. The uses of this item purport that, for example, Mediterranean Games (Q272090)sport (P641)  multi-sport (Q37701258), which would imply "multi-sport" is a kind of "sport". A multi-sport event (Q167170) is an event that plays many different sports, not an event that plays "multi-sport". None of the English Wikipedia articles in the linked items refer to "multi-sport" as a noun concept and it would be unacceptable original research for Wikidata to invent such a concept. Deryck Chan (talk) 09:41, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
  • It looks like it's misspelled. Maybe it should be "multisport", not "multi-sport".

better use properties: properties do not allow creating transitivity, so sooner or later they will die, become atavism and rudiment.--Fractaler (talk) 12:07, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Alexandra Slade filmography (Q43116599): (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)

The associated list (Wikidata:WikiProject Movies/Filmography/Alexandra Slade) is currently broken and empty. Even if it worked, there wouldn't be much to list. I don't think we should make them for people unless there are at least 10 films listed. Personally, I'd delete the list and the item. @Viapicante: ValterVB Josve05a LydiaPintscher Ermanon Cbrown1023 Discoveranjali Mushroom Queryzo Danrok Rogi Escudero Mbch331 Jura Jobu0101 Jklamo Jon Harald Søby putnik ohmyerica AmaryllisGardener FShbib Tambo Andreasmperu Li Song

I'm not sure how interpret the property, personally I always thinked that is refers to a wiki page also if not explicited in discussion of property, because I don't see other uses. --ValterVB (talk) 20:17, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
If there is some content at Wikidata (for filmography), it looks like Q6695731.

fraudster (Q41515083) is not needed and will just invite living people violations. I just pulled it from this item and the other usage doesn't look good either. The much more factual convicted of (P1399) should be used. Multichill (talk) 21:56, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
