Merging

I've proposed merging this with father (P22). Please leave comments at Wikidata:Requests for comment/Merging relationship properties. Andrew Gray (talk) 20:55, 24 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

People with two mothers

[edit]

Hello, I was wondering what I should do in case someone has two mothers rather than one. I was working on Q120485745 and a message keeps popping up saying there should only be one main element for this property, and the documentation says explicitly that it allows "generally a single item", so I'm not sure if there's any way to solve this. -- Brunnaiz (talk) 21:41, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I believe this is trivial to implement: simply remove the restriction. But consensus would be needed that this change is desirable. I think I would support such a proposal, and I'm curious what others think. Jerimee (talk) 16:21, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

qualifier P22

[edit]

I find it useful to have the qualifier father (P22) on mother (P25), and vice versa. If nothing else, it helps one to understand competing claims, similar to statement is subject of (P805). In some areas, competing claims are common, and not just in genealogy. For example, the parentage of fictional entities often requires more flexible structures. I've added the qualifier.
