79.151.56.107 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC))Reasons: So far, every single contribution by this user (spanning Wikidata, Spanish and Catalan Wikipedia) has been reverted for being an obvious vandalism. Tengwar (talk) 15:48, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Not done the IP's last edit on wikidata was February 12, and we don't preemptively block based on other wikis edits (plus no edits in the last 30 days on any wiki, so edits to the Spanish Wikipedia and Catalan Wikipedia are likewise old). @Tengwar: please make sure that future reports of IPs are for IPs with recent edits locally --DannyS712 (talk) 04:20, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Report concerning User:207.162.93.2

207.162.93.2 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC))Reasons: Many of this user's edits are vandalism at a first glance, containing words (or Wikidata items) like "motherfucker", "sex", "69", "caca", "Pénis", etc. or containing data that is wrong at a first glance, such as setting a person's weight to 99,999,999 kg. They also remove correct and useful data and replace it with garbage. Many of their edits are not yet reverted (including blatant ones) and it's very likely that every single one of them should be reverted. This includes edits on Wikidata, Commons, French and English Wikipedia. Tengwar (talk) 15:30, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

✓ Done Edit frequency is low, so I blocked for 18 months. The most "recent" edits seem to be reverted. Lymantria (talk) 16:43, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
Well, for example the Frozen musical's Italian label still says "Pénis". We can't just leave such obvious vandalisms, even if they are not "recent". I hoped there is a better way than manually checking and reverting all these edits one by one. For example a revert tool that can skip the changes tagged "Reverted" and those which were later overwritten by other edits (so no revert is needed after all). Tengwar (talk) 21:26, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
There is not such a way. If you ask here, an administrator will have to do it manually as well. Lymantria (talk) 05:57, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

OK, so there are other users from Quebec with the same ISP (Who has an abuse email listed on the WHOIS page, perhaps we should inform them of this user's abuse?) and the same pattern of activity. They change values to impossibly big numbers, set a person's gender to "table", etc. They edit roughly similar types of items (Taj Mahal, famous people, etc.) And again, some of these edits were reverted, but some still remain.

There are some others, possibly unrelated vandals from Quebec with different ISP/networks. Some of them seem education-related, so maybe it's kids who are vandalizing Wikidata from school PCs:

I'm starting to suspect that a teacher tells schoolkids about Wikipedia and Wikidata editing and shows them example items like Taj Mahal, perhaps tells them to try editing some items. Some kids do test edits, but some find vandalism funny. This would explain why abuse from these IPs continues over many years and why there is a pattern to it.

And when I was looking for IPs that edited Taj Mahal and followed the trail of vandalisms into different items, I found some other IPs that are french-speaking. This time they are from France:

I stopped looking further. There are much more vandalisms from french-speaking IPs. Just pick one vandal, look at the articles they vandalized, in the history of these articles discover more vandalisms from IPs, follow the IPs and see which articles they vandalized, repeat. Tengwar (talk) 00:29, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for the work you have done sorting this out. In some cases a block has been given. Some of the IP's haven't been active for quite a long time, we will in general not block those, although it is of course good to keep an eye on them. Lymantria (talk) 15:16, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Lymantria - I removed the resolved tag and respectfully request that we delete his phone numbers, medical information, and email address from the page history. 2600:387:F:4019:0:0:0:B 21:36, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Why should we redact history when Michael Moates posts the same contact details on his personal website. [1] 8.45.42.147 00:32, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
Because I did not consent to have that information posted here. Furthermore, I can promise you that I do not want my medical information on this site. Much of this information is protected by law regardless of if it is public or not. Also much of what you uploaded was inaccurate and not supported by the links you posted. That could open Wikidata up to a defamation issue. It opens up potential litigation and tort claims. Wikidata:Living people also states "Living individuals with records in Wikidata are for the most part not famous or celebrities; their privacy should be respected. Values for living individuals should generally not be supplied unless they can be considered widespread public knowledge or are openly supplied by the individual themselves (otherwise hidden supporting references are not sufficient). As an example, the fact that someone's address is accessible by looking at a domain name registration doesn't imply that it's considered widespread public knowledge for the sake of this policy." You seem new here and your only edit is this property. Clearly you have an agenda. 38.133.200.80 01:00, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
For the record, I am Michael Moates the subject of this property. I do not have access to any previous accounts but I do declare I have had previous accounts... just can't remember the usernames. I do not consent to any medical or contact information being posted. I have emailed the Wikidata legal team at privacy@wikidata.org to request the removal of all medical information, contact information, and defamatory statements. The ticket number provided by the Wikidata team is 26762. Also, out of transparency I am the IP listed above. DoctorTexan (talk) 01:18, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
How is it defamation to link to a sworn declaration? I, Michael Moates, 26-years-old, make the following statements under penalty of perjury: 1. I have been diagnosed with Asthma, Sleep Apnea, Insomnia, Anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Depression, and Binge Eating Disorder [2] 8.45.42.147 02:08, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
This will be the last time that I post on this... but clearly you are not interested in following the rules of Wikidata... again it says that I am fully with in my right to request removal of private information. Also, for the record being diagnosed with anxiety and having an anxiety disorder are two very different things. You also referred to me as an informant... again that is inaccurate and defamation. Receiving a subpoena does not automatically make someone an informant. You listed numerous inaccurate political ideologies. Admins, due to my current lawsuit as this IP posted... I am happy to request a court order requiring the removal of this private information that is covered under numerous laws. I am also happy to seek a restraining order and injunction. Furthermore, this individual is only here to harass me and make defamatory statements. As you will see by their edits... this is the only thing they have edited up until I called them out on it a few hours ago. I am on the phone as we speak filing a police report against the individual for harassment in violation of Texas law.

Also the IP was in violation by posting my phone number, email, and medical conditions which are protected under the Wikidata:Living people policy and the Wikidata:WikiProject Properties/Wikidata properties that may violate privacy

See the following policies:

Requests for the removal of private information If the subject of an item is unhappy with specific information in the item about themselves, they can request the removal of specific information via the Administrators' noticeboard or by emailing privacy at wikidata.org. When the information isn't of public interest, an administrator may revision delete it. Information that's revision deleted is not visible for normal users who visit the history of a item but only visible for our administrators. In special cases where information is particularly sensitive, an oversighter may be contacted to oversight the information, so that even our administrators can't access the information from the history.

When a user sends an email to privacy at wikidata.org it will be forwarded to privacy at wikimedia.org which is a mailbox handled by the Wikimedia Foundation's Legal / Privacy team.

Living individuals with records in Wikidata are for the most part not famous or celebrities; their privacy should be respected. Values for living individuals should generally not be supplied unless they can be considered widespread public knowledge or are openly supplied by the individual themselves (otherwise hidden supporting references are not sufficient). As an example, the fact that someone's address is accessible by looking at a domain name registration doesn't imply that it's considered widespread public knowledge for the sake of this policy.

There is also a list of properties that may violate privacy at WikiProject Properties, as above in individual cases it's also valuable to be mindful when using other properties.

Request for undeletion of Q106236053

Hello Admins, can you please assist in undeleting the following items.

We are tracking them in the Name Suggestion Index project. The items in NSI are generally retail chains, health clinics, transit systems, or other points of interest which are found in OpenStreetMap.

  • Q106236053 Nelson Alexander

Nelson Alexander is an Australia based real estate agent that has been around since 1971. They have 16 offices, which is on the low side for NSI, but I still think it would meet Wikidata's notability requirements.

I will improve the page with references about the company from https://www.zoominfo.com/c/nelson-alexander/74646654

Thanks for your help and for all you do!

--Bhousel (talk) 18:04, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

@Bhousel: I have restored Nelson Alexander (Q106236053). Please make sure you add substantial references or it may be deleted again in the future. See also Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions/Archive/2021/04/26#Q106236053, CC @Emu, Lymantria. On a related note, would it be useful to somehow flag items at WD:RFD that have a OSM Name Suggestion Index ID (P8253) identifier, since there is a project dedicated to improving/rescuing them? Bovlb (talk) 18:24, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
@Bovlb: Yeah, it might (maybe with a bot). However, the main problem remains that OSM is user-generated data (although frightfully well curated), so items with that property aren’t necessarily notable in Wikidata. But if the project is able to provide additional sources, this would be a good thing – especially since I myself am leaning towards inclusionism in Wikidata. --Emu (talk) 19:21, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
@Pasleim: Do you think this is the sort of thing that DeltaBot could take on? Should we compose a bot request? Would we set this up as a mapping from specific identifier properties to specific Wikiprojects? Bovlb (talk) 19:29, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Good thing @Bovlb:. I have encountered however a couple of items with OSM Name Suggestion Index ID (P8253) that were at least doubtful. This one I must have underestimated, and if there is improvement, that's only the better. Lymantria (talk) 20:19, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Request undeletion of Q106729612

CEO of Odd Molly, a publicly-traded organization which has a Wikipedia page. She has "serious and publicly available references" references like [5] [6]. The item was deleted despite being linked at Q7077415. I request undeletion as it passes notability criteria 1, 2 and 3. 2405:201:D002:3B6F:A9EF:9A07:AB63:1800 18:53, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

Sara Fernstrom (Q106729612) undeleted. The references (which were not present before deletion) are a little thin to support criterion #2 as they do liitle more than confirm her appointment as CEO, but Odd Molly (Q7077415) solidly meets criterion #1, and so this item meets criterion #3. (I wish we had good pithy names for our notability criteria.) Please try to improve the item and find more references. (CC @ Lymantria as deleting admin) Bovlb (talk) 20:20, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

I have blocked GeneDBot from editing the main namespace for three days for creating about 22,000 duplicate items which my bot account is currently merging (the exact problem that this same bot account addressed back in July 2019, for those wondering about my use of my bot account). I intend to prolong this block absent any indication from the operator (on the talk page of the bot where I reported the problem, for example) that any issues with the bot which may have prompted this mass creation of duplicates have been resolved. @Ymblanter: This appears to be a content dispute between two users (BartocX (the OP) and new user Спасем мир), largely over two points: whether this author should be described as a "cyberactivist", and which images to use (commons:Agustín Laje (48927483208) (cropped).jpg or commons:Agustin Laje no es un agente de Estados Unidos.jpg). Unless I'm missing something, this doesn't seem to be a clear-cut case of vandalism, so I'm wondering if semi-protection is the appropriate response to an edit war between a new user and an established one. User:SmartifyBot - Bot without bot flag?

While looking at the recent changes I came across edits from SmartifyBot. I am usually on dewiki and I don't know a lot about Wikidata, but as far as I can see wikidata:Bots requires that bots operated on Wikidata have a valid botflag. While User:SmartifyBot proclaims to have such a flag, that does not seem to be the case according to Special:UserRights/SmartifyBot. The edits are not marked as bot edits either. Am I overlooking something here? @Rob Lowe - Smartify: FYI. --Count Count (talk) 18:22, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Formatter link broken for property P901 (FIPS 10-4 code)

The CIA has changed the address of The World Factbook (Q97142711) and the formatters for property FIPS 10-4 (countries and regions) (P901) are no longer working. Country URLs in the The World Factbook now have the full name of the country, for example https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/antigua-and-barbuda/ and https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/jordan/. They no longer use the FIPS code. What should be done now on FIPS 10-4 (countries and regions) (P901) and all of the items that have a FIPS 10-4 code? Questions about the deletion procedure

Because Bovlb asked me to split up my concerns, I'll do that. With regard to the procedure for deletion discussions that have already been decided, I have two points / questions:

  1. Why are there no clear rules here in Wikidata on how to deal with deletion decisions that have already been made? In the German-language Wikipedia, for example, there is the deletion check. Why isn't there a similar page here?
  2. Regardless of the deletion check: Why does the decisive admin not have to coordinate with the admin who made the previous decision? If, as a normal user, I want to restore a deleted item, I have to communicate with the admin who deleted it.

With best regards --Gymnicus (talk) 08:39, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Info This is yet another rehash of the old debate “Is Ramy Khodeir notable?”. Former highlights from this debate:
tl;dr: There are in all probability no independent, non-user generated sources for Ramy Khodeir. --Emu (talk) 10:20, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
@Emu: Thanks for the nice summary. Even if it does not necessarily have anything to do with the question posed here and this actually contradicts the separation of topics proposed by Bovlb. --Gymnicus (talk) 11:25, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Well, the context of this discussion is that you try to get Ramy Khodeir into Wikidata. You constantly bring up new arguments. I feel that it’s important for other readers who don’t know about the history to put your questions into context. --Emu (talk) 12:04, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
  • Deletion and undeletion actions are usually the result of an ad-hoc notability evaluation. In other words: "item does/does not meet the notability criteria" is pretty much a technical condition based on the current content of an item, its history, and its use within Wikimedia projects. In most cases, it is not necessary to ask formerly involved users or admins for input, although reading old discussions may help of course. As opposed to some other Wikimedia project, there is also no "procedural" component involved here that prescibes how to handle notability issues after some sort of decision has been made earlier.
If you want to challenge a decision, you can approach the admin in question or raise the issue here at WD:AN. If you want to challenge a deletion decision, you are probably asked to provide evidence for notability that you can add to the item in case it gets undeleted (such as serious external sources, Wikipedia articles that were somehow missing in the item, and so on). If you want to challenge a "not deleted" oder undeletion action, you need to outline what you think has gone wrong. We are usually pretty flexible in this process and try to support the users with their requests, but of course we cannot yield to any request that is being made.+ —MisterSynergy (talk) 11:31, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
@MisterSynergy: So the famous Wikipedia „Relevanz vergeht nicht!“ (english: „Relevance doesn't go away!“) sentence doesn't apply here in Wikidata? --Gymnicus (talk) 11:39, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
I have never heard that expression, but I have on the other hand never been active on de.wikipedia. (Mainly because my understanding of de is Q226183.) We review our notability-policy on a regular basis. Wikidata is still in development, something that can dramatically change how wo do things here. My opinion is for example that only because an articles has existed on a Wikimedia-project once, does not mean that the corresponding Wikidata-item have any notability here. We delete thousands of articles on sv.wikipedia from the Lsjbot-project, since their content is poor, and in too many cases totally wrong. Today we still keep those items here, because they are in use of ceb.wikipedia. But if cebwiki deletes its sitelink, I cannot see why we should keep these item here. I do not think we should have an item here, only because it once existed a madly flawed item in Geonames database that was transfered here by an ill-advised project. 62 etc (talk) 11:56, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
(squeeze) @Sextvåetc: I can understand your statement and I also agree with you. You refer to the first point of the relevance criteria of Wikidata. As I wrote in my objection, it is possible with this point, as with the third point, that the relevance is lost. So I phrased my question to MisterSynergy a little wrong. Hence the objection from me. --Gymnicus (talk) 12:29, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Wikidata is not Wikipedia. In any case, “Relevanz vergeht nicht“ wouldn’t apply here, this rule just means that somebody who has been relevant per Relevanzkriterien at some point doesn’t cease to be relevant just because nobody cares about them any more (Edit: For example, a company that reached the relevance threshold in the past but is now a very small company is still relevant.). If this were the German Wikipedia, the “Kein Bestandsschutz” doctrine (see w:de:Wikipedia:Löschregeln#Bei_einem_wiederholten_Löschantrag) (Edit: If relevance criteria change, articles that don’t meet the new criteria don’t have to be kept) would apply, allowing deletion. --Emu (talk) 12:04, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
(squeeze) @Emu: I would like to point out that I asked my question a little rashly and that it was therefore not yet fully developed. I referred to it more precisely in my objection. In short: With regard to the first and third point of the relevance criteria, there may be a loss of relevance in Wikidata. Personally, I don't see how the second point of the relevance criteria can lead to a loss.
In addition, briefly off-topic: Of course, a change in the relevance criteria thwarted the sentence. But normally it already applies, as you yourself call using your example with the company. I can also give other examples of application, but that doesn't really belong here.
My own objection. Of course, the relevance here in Wikidata can in principle vanish if the data object loses its single Wikipedia link, for example. The Wikipedia link created the relevance and without a link the relevance is gone. That's logic. If the data object Q97970640 lost its Wikipedia link, it would certainly be deletable at this point in time because it does not actually contain any information.
With regard to the third point of the relevance criteria here in Wikidata, it is of course possible to lose relevance. If a data object is only relevant because of a structural benefit compared to another data object, then the relevance can be lost. If, for example, the data object Deborah Scholz (Q67944118) were deleted, then the data object Q106762421 could also be deleted because it receives its relevance via the integration in the data object Deborah Scholz (Q67944118).
My understanding problem with losing relevance is more on the second point of the Wikidata relevance criteria. If an administrator considers the identifiers contained in the data object to be relevant and they have not been removed from the data object in the meantime, why can another administrator still simply make a different decision without prior communication with the other administrator? In this point I do not see the possibility of loss of relevance. --Gymnicus (talk) 12:21, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
The difficulty with the second point of WD:N is to determine whether a source is "serious" or not, as there this is not formally defined anywhere. Some types of sources that we *usually* do not consider to be serious are: social media, user-generated content, sources under control of the described entity itself (their own websites, …), clearly promotional content. This list is by no means complete and there may even be exceptions, but this does already cover the majority of situations admins have to deal with. You can still add such sources to items as references or identifiers in order to support statements that you add there, but for a notability evaluation they do not count.
In quite some situations, you need to be familiar with a particular source in order to be aware which sort of content to expect from there. Not all admins have the same knowledge about all sources, and this process is of course not entirely free of a subjective component. It certainly helps to be around in the deletion process regularly, as some sources are regularly involved in certain promotional patterns here. —MisterSynergy (talk) 13:19, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
My experience is that on Wikipedia, the users tends to in higher degree "own" articles. "-I do not like infoboxes, they are ugly! I therefor remove infoboxes from my articles." Those are arguments I have seen on Wikipedia. I have never seen such behavior here in the Q-namespace. People do not tend to have strong feelings about items they have created. The exception is when the items are about themselves or something/-body close to the user.
In the P-namespaces is the image completely different. How to interpret discussions and which data-model is the best to set up, causes much more heat and friction between users. 62 etc (talk) 14:13, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
@Sextvåetc: I don't know exactly what infoboxes have to do with the topic? But that's not important now either. It is certainly the case that many deletion discussions on Wikipedia are also very emotional. That can certainly not be the case here, but every now and then and most of the time I am also involved. It is up to others to decide whether this throws a good or a bad picture of me. --Gymnicus (talk) 14:30, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Well, it may have to do with the fact that Wikidata has enormous amounts of items but a very small community. People get along in the item namespace because there is little friction if almost nobody cares about each other’s items (except for very few people in some areas; they mostly know they need each other and for the most part avoid pointless arguments). Frictions arise once people with a different opinion clash, as is the case with modeling, properties and RfD. --Emu (talk) 14:41, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
@MisterSynergy: But isn't this subjective component perhaps a reason why you might first go to a contact point to check whether the decision which was made was wrong at all. --Gymnicus (talk) 15:01, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
I feel that our processes sometimes give us a bias towards action. For example, if an item has low notability, it only takes one admin to decide to delete it, regardless of how many have already reviewed it and decided not to delete. (There's a similar bias towards action in requests for undeletion, but it is weaker and more rarely applied.) I wonder if we would benefit from some sort of "notability patrolled" flag that allows some class of established users to mark items as appearing to satisfy notability criteria. We would need to work out exactly how that affects the deletion process.
Separately, I wonder if it would be useful to have a gadget that automatically assesses notability against the three criteria. For criterion 1, sitelinks are fairly easy to detect automatically. For criterion 2, identifiers are easy, but references are harder. For example, we need to decide if any identifiers inherently act as references. For criterion 3, incoming links from items is commonly taken as a proxy for structural need. This tool might help new users to establish notability from the start. It might be useful to report that assessment on WD:RFD. We could have a tool to report items more than a certain age that have no detectable notability. Bovlb (talk) 16:33, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
If I review an item and decide not to delete it I just add the template {{Not done}}.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:28, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
@Ymblanter: I assume you mean in the case where deletion has been requested at WD:RFD. I don't have statistics, but I believe a lot of deletions take place without going through that process. Am I wrong? Bovlb (talk) 18:16, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, indeed, I mean requested deletion. I have no idea about the general number of requested deletions vs all deletions, I personally delete a lot of items outside of WD:RFD, but most of these are category items without sitelinks, which are explicitly not notable.--Ymblanter (talk) 18:19, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Also, I am certain that many items go to RFD after established users have judged them to be notable, but their input is not reflected in the ensuing "discussion". Bovlb (talk) 02:05, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
I created a script to find each deleted item's RfD page when exists. It looks like less than 5% of all deletions go through deletion requests. (110 in the last 2500 deletions, to be exact.) Note: this relies on backlinks and might include some false positives via spurious links, but probably not many. whym (talk) 07:47, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Incorrect edits

Hello, after stability in the articles of Italian operators, an IP returns to make incorrect modifications, in TIM Group (Q144617), I try to put the common name of the company on the label and the legal name in Also known as, and this person put the legal name on the label and does not put the common name, in addition to this deletes the current logo which can be seen on their website [13]. I have tried to mediate with him in the discussion of the article but he no longer answers me. It has a dynamic IP so if you are blocked, you can vuvlve with another IP. An anonymous user tries to promote some Israeli technician (iOS app developer?). It may be OK because the promoting person can be notable as a developer of a mobile game (however, these both may be unnotable but that's another talk). The problem is that the editor performs his promotion in a very impermissible way - he found an item for a namesake (researcher in the field of biology) and re-wrote that item like it should've been the item for the technician/developer. Later the IP editor created the newer item Q106870050, then came to the RfD claimed that one page duplicates another, removing also links to a biologist [14][15][16]. I tried to show him/her that such actions are wrong, but after some users supported the merging and elimination of data on biologist, I decided to leave the message here. I propose to warn the IP user and to semi-protect Q86431843 for several days together with related items (Q49905783, Q46657029, Q91645654). I hope (maybe blindly) that this can help the anonym to take some time to learn the policy and continue contributing in a more acceptable way. --Wolverène (talk) 17:59, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

  • If it's unclear for somebody that the persons are the same one or not - I don't believe a technician wrote scientific articles on protein synthesis. Judging by the IP user's edits yes, he definitely didn't.
P.S. Just a bit upset imaging how many items may be 'compromised' in a similar way. --Wolverène (talk) 18:05, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Items with wrong information for articles marked for speed deletion in the german language wikipedia

Hello, under various usernames, like

in the last days items for articles in the german language wikipedia have been created, which have been marked for speed deletion. Most of the items had "requests for deletion" afterwards. The items used wrong labels, wrong types, wrong occupation, etc. Is there something that can be done about this (e.g. prevent item creation for articles marked for speed deletion) ? Thanks a lot! --M2k~dewiki (talk) 09:24, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

I fixed a few, but it's going to take some effort to fix them all as they've been doing this regularly for three months now. Their erroneous changes to English labels are interleaved with other changes so we can't just use rollback.

@ProtoplasmaKid: Thanks for bringing this to our attention. So far as I can see, this is a content dispute between ProtoplasmaKid and @Lost in subtitles on one side and @Wadisdust on the other regarding whether drawings made and uploaded by ProtoplasmaKid are appropriate images for Lucio Cabañas (Q580980) and murder of Victoria Salazar (Q106262385). I see no discussion on any talk pages. Why don't you try leaving them a message? Bovlb (talk) 21:32, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your message, @Bovlb:, there is no disputing because for a dispute we needs arguments that can point why is the reason in retire contents based in our actual policies. I understand that uses of images as all the contents in the projects are discusable. But in this case I just see a recently created account that retires randomly content from the elements because no reason, that's why I came to this board. Best, --ProtoplasmaKid (talk) 21:38, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
@ProtoplasmaKid: You appear to be saying that you have no responsibility for starting a discussion with them because they are a new user, and because you somehow know that they have no reason for the changes they are making. Is that a fair summary? Anyway, I have welcomed them to the project and invited them to join in this discussion. I am hopeful that one of the three of you will be able offer an argument in favour of your edits. Bovlb (talk) 23:16, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
@Bovlb: That's your summary, not mine. Not sure if it's fair but that's the facts I have. --ProtoplasmaKid (talk) 00:22, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
@Bovlb: I wasn't intending to participate but ok. Today a new editor appears out of the blue taking off two images from data and es wiki. He just says it's due to spam. From what? Well, examinating the image, we see easily it's a drawing. No signature, no names of the creator, just personal work, which makes little sense for spam. When undone he just claims for him to stop getting his image everywhere ("deja de poner tu imagen en todos sitios"). Then a third image from another author from the es wiki (this one a caption instead, not even marked as his work, but neither he gave a reason)
We get no reason for it being spam or for the third being erased, just stop getting your images everywhere. They went also directly for two images, not related, not the same, not even the last ones he could have loaded or used...
I don't know... from here it seems all a bit weird. Not like a new user but someone who got something erased recently and is trying to get payback--Lost in subtitles (talk) 00:32, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
BTW, I'm asking for a local checkuser.[18] By some reason, he was reminding me the procedure we're following related with Xavier Lezama's article, suspecting a puppetteer (locked globally) was evading with puppets and IP. Recently some mod has been erasing some images and text placed by IPs on the suspicious rank due to using them for spam or publicity. I wasn't very sure since it was not Protoplasma and it wasn't him who started the actions. But a quick check just confirmed it was him who had to erase the article most of the times.--Lost in subtitles (talk) 12:02, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
[19] this was from an investigated IP, just before the account appearing on es wiki, so this may relate it with the investigation directly. --Lost in subtitles (talk) 12:32, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. It may well be as you say, but it is my belief that we are sometimes too quick to label undesirable edits as vandalism simply because the motivation for them is not obvious to us. This means that I don't like to see issues brought here without any attempt to discuss them first with the user, except in the most clear-cut of cases. I note that Wadisdust has not edited since my invitation to join this discussion. I look forward to hearing the checkuser results. Bovlb (talk) 16:22, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
@Bovlb, ProtoplasmaKid: We got a possitive with the suspected accounts. [20]. It was locally blocked, now the results will be going up to Meta.--Lost in subtitles (talk) 20:49, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

In short, everything works perfectly. Jura1 wants my account blocked because a tool is supposedly malfunctioning. If so, this is the tool to stop, not me, but TABernacle works very fine. In reality, the problem is not in my contributions, but in the attitude of Jura1 by employing a roundabout way to prevent me and another user from contributing. Swiss locations cannot be changed without being harassed by repeated messages about so-called mistakes. These messages arrive on my TP, as well as that of AnBuKu and on Talk:Q69765. Jura1 does not understand the basic principle of linked data (RDF) applied on WD (there is no need to repeat an entity already linked). Despite having explained my changes to him several times, he persists in saying that they are errors. My edits are absolutely correct and I have already responded to this contributor many times in the links mentioned above. The opinion of other contributors go in my direction, despite this, we find it difficult to contribute in peace.
In my turn, I ask you to make him see reason. I can say that he annoys a large number of contributors, mainly French-speaking, by his obtuse attitude. Cordially. —Eihel (talk) 08:21, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
It's obvious, I don't understand your edits at https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q5002049&action=history nor your explanations for them (here and elsewhere). --- Jura 08:30, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Here is the result. What's wrong? The number of modifications? If so, are you asking me to do fewer edits? I'm afraid to understand. —Eihel (talk) 08:53, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

To correct my request above: it appears that it may not be a "malfunctioning tool", but the user is doing intentionally 297 edits on a single item (and similar quantities on other items). --- Jura 09:45, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Aaaaah, now I'm the one causing the problems? Is it still an unfortunate and unwelcome supposition to ask for my account to be blocked? I click and the job is done, nothing else. On the other hand, it is well done and it is perhaps because, once again, you come back after me to correct the obvious and replace them with errors that TABernacle makes several edits. Your interventions may interfere with the tool and you may need to be blocked. Your blocking is more obvious that you follow my contributions since May 12, as well as those of AnBuKu (4 days). Seriously, I wish I could contribute in peace. —Eihel (talk) 10:50, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
This (link from your comment) isn't really worth 294 edits. 3 would be enough. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 11:14, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes Matěj Suchánek, it only takes 3 edits, but don't read what Jura1 writes and don't think I'm making these hundreds of contributions for fun. On the other hand, if the number of edits is a problem, we cannot block a contributor for that, but make a ticket on Phabricator for example (see here). The fact that Jura1 continuously cancels valid contributions, from AnBuKu or from me, and then asks to block me, makes me understand more things. Not you ? It should be crystal clear. TABernacle was working perfectly the previous evening around 9pm (UTC) and Abbe98 will be able to confirm that for you. Also, I have never been blocked. As a reminder, I am rewriting here a sentence written in December 2019 by Pasleim: Jura1 continues enforcing his data model by reverting other user's contributions. It's malicious, disruptive and bad faith. He was blocked for a week for this. If he does not revoke, he still undos valid changes. If we don't do as he wants, our changes are canceled. Despite several explanations in the summaries, then on its talk page and on an item Talk page, Jura1 adds errors despite basic WD rules and common sense. After my explanation on his talk page, he pretends to agree to my changes. I explained the same to another contributor, AnBuKu, but it undos all valid changes. Again, It's malicious, disruptive and bad faith. I have found the TABernacle problem and it is already listed. The technical problems are not my fault, but the human problems are your responsibility. In my turn, I ask for a block (see below). Cordially. —Eihel (talk) 13:04, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
... don't read what Jura1 writes... The only evidence I based my remark on was the link brought by you. I didn't care about what he wrote.
... if the number of edits is a problem, we cannot block a contributor for that... Of course we can. But blocking you wasn't a decision of mine anyway.
As a reminder, I am rewriting here a sentence written in December 2019 by Pasleim. Thanks for reminding me, but that seems to concern US politicians, not communities in Switzerland.
Now I will remind you that neither me nor you nor Jura are the authority over the data. There is a basic WD rule that Wikidata doesn't store the truth, but claims by authorities. So perhaps your POV would be more valid if you pointed at the authority that supports it. (And so Jura should do.) --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 18:35, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

The same has happened at:

Also after the user was made aware of the problem [21] and commented here. From the comment above, it seems to be done due to some issue with me and they are attempting to implement some non-consensual change. --- Jura 11:25, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

It is no longer "rollback of edits", but "undos of edits"

Hello,

Preamble

A contributor, AnBuKu, was adding extra values. I explain the linked data to him .

Reminder

Jura1 was warned of his behavior in April 2019 (here). Then, as for his first block (here), if he no longer reverts, he cancels completely valid changes.

Course of facts

Jura1 begins by canceling my changes twice despite a second clear summary (here and here). After an explanation on Jura1's Talk page (here), he claims to agree with me, but advocates changing ranks instead (here). His half-correct reply gives me a break and I am correcting the item for the third time. But Jura1 begins to cancel by dozens of AnBuKu's contributions, which followed my explanations, in the same way and for the same reasons. AnBuKu understood my explanations and replied him several times (here and here), but Jura1 replied him the opposite of what he replied me. I still have to intervene, but he persists. Jura1 does not respect WD's base on linked data and he re-puts completely wrong changes. Even after patient explanations, he persists in doing as he sees fit: it is his law and the others must follow him. It has become impossible. Several other contributors agree with me. Then, to prevent me from continuing to contribute, he requests that my account be blocked for a faulty tool (here). I am at the end of my rope. I gave an explanation about it (here and here). His actions do not allow to contribute peacefully and we are not only 2 to suffer from Jura1. I ask you to rule against Jura1 more severely on actions identical to his first block. I advocate a ban of the project. Cordially. —Eihel (talk) 13:14, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Zotero-Cita tag

@Martin_Urbanec: Dear Martin, some weeks ago I requested that a Zotero-Cita tag was created for Cita, a Wikidata extension for Zotero that I'm developing. Back then you suggested that I supported OAuth instead, as that would automatically create a custom tag.

Cita will be presented on May 27 and 31. I've been working hard these weeks to have the tool ready, and unfortunately I couldn't add OAuth support yet. I'm trying to do so this weekend, but I'm new to OAuth and I'm afraid it may not be ready for the presentation events.

We have over 200 registrations for the events and we expect some edits will be made to Wikidata using the tool. Recently I changed Cita to use a custom HTTP User-Agent header for requests made to the Wikidata API. However, I think having an edit tag would be very important to track Cita changes and detect possible bugs as early as possible.

I will continue working trying to support OAuth as soon as possible. But, in the meantime, would it be possible to reconsider creating a 'Zotero-Cita' tag that it can use right now, to make sure we have something in place for the upcoming events?

BTW, let me ask you again: Cita supports anonymous edits. Could such edits be done through OAuth so they get the tag as well?

Thank you once more! --Diegodlh (talk) 16:11, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

I posted about using OAuth for anonymous edits here, in case you want to add to that discussion. Thanks! --Diegodlh (talk) 21:07, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

In addition, this reason for deletion does not go into why the structural benefit of the property does not come into play. Zeyan Shafiq is the founder and CEO of the relevant esports team Stalwart Esports (Q105150097). For this reason, from my point of view, it has a structural benefit. --Gymnicus (talk) 17:16, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

@Gymnicus: I have restored this item because of the structural need. Please add sources if you can find any. Bovlb (talk) 00:47, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

Help

I think I may have made a mistake in merging two items I thought were duplicates of the same man, but now I think I mistakenly merged father into son. Both are covered by the same ODNB article. Please help sort out what I have done and whether I did the right thing or not. William Erskine is the father, Claudius James Erskine is the son. Both were colonial civil servants, orientalists, historians, collectors. William Erskine has an article on English Wikipedia, Claudius James Erskine has one on Simple Wikipedia. I thought I merged a one Claudius Erskine with another Claudius James Erskine (to which the Simple Wikipedia page attached), but now the birth dates are a generation out an the short description says "Erskine, William, historian" which is the father, not Claudius J. my contributions here GPinkerton (talk) 05:09, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Q63313694 is about Claudius James Erskine. Are William Erskine (Q8008651) and Claudius James Erskine (Q18576002) about the same person maybe? In that case, they should be merged. - FakirNL (talk) 08:59, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
@FakirNL: Claudius James Erskine (Q18576002) and Claudius James Erskine (Q63313694) are the same person. William Erskine (Q8008651) was his father. Claudius James Erskine (Q63313694) is the item to which the Wikipedia page links. Claudius Erskine (Q18576002) is the item I tried to merge with Claudius James Erskine (Q63313694). Now however, Claudius Erskine (Q18576002) has his father's dates of birth and death, and is described in the short description as "Erskine, William (historian of India)", which is information proper to the father, not the son. (Both father and son wrote on India' history; Claudius James published William's unfinished book on the early Mughals.) Claudius Erskine should redirect to Claudius James Erskine and William Erskine's life details should be repatriated to his own item. (And whatever I did to mess with any of these by merging and then trying to unmerge should be rolled back first.) GPinkerton (talk) 14:53, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
Just remove the wrong information and all is fine now. - FakirNL (talk) 15:59, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
FakirNL, great thanks! Although I think the head name should be the full name with "James". I suspect there are notable cousins and things with similar names (his parents had a dozen children), and the "James" is partly an inherited surname from his grandfather rather than just a given name.
