Babel lets you view and edit more than one language on Wikidata. Just add e.g. {{#babel:de-N|en-3|es-1|fr-2|nl-3|it-4|da-0}} to your user page. Best, Littledogboy (talk) 13:38, 28 August 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Journal aliases and Scandinavian authorities[edit]

Hi Finn, re [1] I can use a bot to automatically put the English title into the label for all those language, using the title in the Danish official journal list as a guide. I have proposed that we add identifiers for the Danish journal list at Wikidata:Property proposal/Authority control#Danish Bibliometric Research Indicator (BFI) SNO/CNO, and a property for the 'level' (Niveau) assigned to these journals at Wikidata:Property proposal/Creative work#Danish Bibliometric Research Indicator (BFI) Level. I would appreciate it if you comment on those proposed properties - I don't know the Danish research evaluation system very well, except that it appears to be almost identical to the Australian system - to confirm they are of the right type, or improve the proposal. John Vandenberg (talk) 07:48, 6 March 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for bringing this up. The Finnish also has a publication site with levels: Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 16:32, 14 April 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks for letting me know about the Finns are doing. They have a level above '2', aptly named '3', and there are many journals with a rank of '-', which I havent yet understood the meaning of (possibly not yet assessed?). Their online database with 25,0000 records is linkable and has a lot of useful fields in it, so I've requested a property for their ID at Wikidata:Property_proposal/Authority_control#Jufo ID. I think I will do a comparison of Danish and Norwegian and Danish and Finnish levels before requesting properties for those, however if you know anyone who might be interested in that data, I can load it at their request.
User:JVbot is now loading the Danish SNO/CNO and level for journals which have an ERA ID as the first batch, which should be a very large subset of all the international journals. (It may duplicate a SNO if you have input an SNO already; a second pass will identify this and I will correct the data) Once the ID and levels are added, the bot add labels and descriptions in Danish, where those fields are currently have no value.(and I will notify you when that starts so you can spot check the results). The real fun will be after that, when the bot processes entries which have an ISSN in Wikidata but are not included in ERA, and then the entries which are 'new' Wikidata items because their ISSN does not yet appear in Wikidata. Direction of merge[edit]

Hi, you merged opera singer (Q13378569) in opera singer (Q12330340); however WhatLinksHere/Q12330340 is only used by one item while WhatLinksHere/Q13378569 is used by a dozen other items. Someone will have the trouble of fixing those broken links. Next time, it would be better to merge from the least-used item toward the most-used item. Cheers - LaddΩ chat ;) 14:50, 23 April 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok, I will be more careful next time. I just selected the lowest item. I have moved professions labeled with opera singer (Q13378569) to opera singer (Q12330340). — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 18:55, 23 April 2014 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hmmm...
— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 17:34, 24 October 2016 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Reverting P972 on Q11866[edit]

Hi Fnielsen, I noticed you reverted my edit here with summary "I don't understand the deletion". I will tell you: This item has both catalog (P972) with qualifier catalog code (P528) as well as P528 with qualifier P972. According to the talk page at P972 the recommended version is with P528 as statement and P972 as qualifier. So that is why I deleted this statement. Have a nice day! Hi! Very good question. I did not see Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (Q30314335). I suppose that Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (Q30314335) is a family of proteins and Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (Q43997683) is a description of a family of proteins. Furthermore the Wikipedia article associated with Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (Q30314335) is a description of a family of proteins. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 23:33, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Danish Culture Canon (Q1269747)[edit]

Hi Finn, this is incorrect usage of part of (P361). This should be replaced by another property. I would use catalog (P972). Can you change it? Should be easy job with petscan. Multichill (talk) 12:16, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am not sure you are right. --Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 15:07, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What do you mean by "you" , Villy? Me or Multichill? I think catalog would be better. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 17:20, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I am not sure Multichill is right. --Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 22:06, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I know part of (P361) is wrong. If you have a better property than catalog (P972), go ahead and use that one. Multichill (talk) 22:20, 16 December 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am wondering if we can get some arguments put forward. catalog (P972) seems ok to use to indicate a list membership, even though the list is not necessarily a catalogue in the usual sense. part of (P361) is a fairly general property and I think one should select another property if that is possible. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 16:56, 18 December 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi! I wonder whether exact match (P2888) is the best option to link lexemes to external databases, but it surely depends on. Could you please create an item for the target database with metadata about it? -- JakobVoss (talk) 17:21, 3 June 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@JakobVoss: DanNet (Q26932303) is the versionless item for the resource. I haven't created items for the versions of DanNet. One problem with the lexical resources is that they tend to have versions, so we would need a property for each version. Interlingual Index ID (P5063) and BabelNet ID (P2581) may be an exception. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 17:29, 3 June 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How could we make a connection between statements such as most (L2333) exact match (P2888) and DanNet (Q26932303)? The common URI namespace of DanNet seems to be, so this URI should be stated in DanNet (Q26932303). formatter URI for RDF resource (P1921) does not fit, URL (P2699) is to broad, isn't it?. What do you think about -- JakobVoss (talk) 07:10, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@JakobVoss: Maybe I should contact the DanNet (Q26932303) and ask what their thoughts are. At the moment the domain redirects and we get 404 from instance URIs. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 12:00, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I tried url you put into exact match (P2888) there and it showed 404 Page not found. KaMan (talk) 11:49, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes, the DanNet (Q26932303) URI does not resolve currently, but the URI is suppose to be that one, cf. Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 11:58, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help us improving the user experience of Lexicographical Data[edit]

I’m Jan, doing research on user experience in the Wikidata team. I’m currently discussing with people who are editing Lexemes, in order to understand their needs better, and improve their experience with the interface.

We noticed that you have been actively editing Lexemes recently (thank you for that!) and we would love to have a discussion with you about what you’re doing, how you work, what motivates you to create Lexemes, and how you imagine reusing the data later.

This discussion would take place as an individual interview with one of our designers. Via the communication platform of your choice, you’ll be able to share your screen, show how you’re currently editing the data and chat with us. The discussion would take between 30 and 60 min, we will set up the appointment depending on when you are available. Depending on your preferred language, the discussion can happen in English, German or French.

If you’re interested, feel free to reply to this message or send me an email:

If you don’t want to be contacted by us on this topic anymore, please let me know.

Thanks a lot for your help, Jan Dittrich (WMDE) (talk) 11:37, 16 August 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Danish has no genitive case[edit]

I noticed you added genitive case forms to søndag (L21643), but according to w:Danish grammar, there are no cases in Danish. The possessive is considered an enclitic. —Rua (mew) 18:48, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for making me aware of the concept of enclitic. Danish: A Comprehensive Grammar (Q54140873) pages 47+ speaks of "The genitive" for Danish nouns and the book does not mention "enclitic" (not at least according to the index). So I wonder where that leaves us? — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 22:20, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Wikipedia article explains why the "genitive" is not a case. The ending -s is not attached to the noun, but to the last word in the phrase. This means that any word that can appear at the end of a genitive phrase has a genitive form, even verb forms and prepositions. The article gives a few examples. The English possessive enclitic -'s works exactly the same, and it's not considered a genitive case either. —Rua (mew) 16:19, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Nevertheless, Wiktionary's wikt:søndag (and Swedish wikt:söndag) does have genitive. It is very rare that an -s is added to a verb or preposition, but very common in nouns. If you want to alienate Wiktionary users, try to teach them how grammar works. --LA2 (talk) 17:25, 26 October 2018 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Property proposal for Imagenet synset?[edit]

I'm wondering if you might be interested in reviving your property proposal for Wordnet synset ID? I'm doing more with GLAM organizations and image recognition, and this would be quite a valuable thing to have not as just an "exact match" but as a proper property. I think this would be rather easy to pass since there were all supports previously - Wikidata:Property_proposal/Wordnet_synset_ID. Thanks! -- Fuzheado (talk) 11:19, 4 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Fuzheado: Yes we could do that. There are some issues, some of which was mentioned in Linking ImageNet WordNet Synsets with Wikidata (Q50347076). If we would like to be LOD'ish and like ImageNet synsets, then we should go for the specific version WordNet 3.0. It seems that the linguists have moved on to WordNet 3.1 and there are no good URI resolver for 3.0. We could also suggest both. There are a good number of BabelNet identifiers. It might be that going from Wikidata via BabelNet to WordNet 3.0 is possible. I haven't explored. For the Danish parallel to WordNet, DanNet (Q26932303), there is a Wikidata property for words (not synsets, yet), see, e.g., champagne (L40806). I suppose similar items could be relevant for WordNet. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 00:37, 9 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Strange gender on L41136[edit]

Are you sure about grammatical gender (P5185) = nexual noun (Q61053035) on nydelse (L41136)? It seems strange (wouldn't it be better in instance of (P31)?) and it triggers a contraint violation.

duplicate paper added?[edit]

Hi - I'm wondering why you recently added The Meaning-Frequency Relationship of Words (Q65952270) - specifically what your procedure for that was, because it was a duplicate (with a slightly mangled title) of The Meaning-Frequency Relationship of Words (Q57623197), which you also added almost a year ago. I've merged them now, but it would be nice not to have to try to catch these after the fact! ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:10, 13 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@ArthurPSmith: I don't know. I have no recollection of adding it the first time. I usually check up based on the title. I suppose that I misspelt the title the second time and that was the reason I did not find it... — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 19:47, 13 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

WordNet property[edit]

Hi! I was looking to see whether Wikidata had a property for linking to WordNet synsets and I came across Wikidata:Property_proposal/Wordnet_synset_ID from almost exactly two years ago. I note that the proposal was withdrawn because of concerns about consistency between WordNet versions and canonical formats. Do you think there would be any interest in resurrecting that proposal? CC @MB-one Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 02:03, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bovlb, MB-one: Yeah. What I have done for DanNet (Q26932303) is to tie the property to a specific version of the resource. We could tie WordNet synset properties to 3.0 and 3.1. I thank you for your efforts. We are managing to create a research unit called "Data Engineering and Semantics" in the University of Sfax, Tunisia. The purpose of this research unit is to gather Wikiresearchers from University of Sfax into a recognized research structure and have funding from Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education. In order to do that, we need to have a letter of support from institutions all over the world. I ask if you or the director of your research department can write a letter of support for us so that we can have our application approved. This will be acknowledged. --Csisc (talk) 14:26, 23 October 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Herligt at høre!

Public domain - bestemmelsesmetode?[edit]

The Holy Family with St. Stephen (Q75135172) --Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 16:07, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply]

So9q (talk) 13:18, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Batch adding "cites work"?[edit]

Hi, Do you know if there's currently a way of automatically batch adding all of the cites work (P2860) claims to a publication (like in Q55120315)? I'd like to get the published WikiJournal articles up to scratch, but I don't know which tool to use. I'd like to get links to Scholia on all teh article pages, but it only makes sense if we can guarantee that the wikidata items are relatively complete. Any advice appreciated! T.Shafee(evo&evo) (talk) 09:22, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Evolution and evolvability: If the citations are in CrossRef, then I suppose the DOI-based citations could be made. There was a bot operating at one point by User:Harej. Otherwise I suppose we could build a tool that would extract the DOIs, add the DOI articles to Wikidata (if not already there) and link them via cites work (P2860). Another possibility would be to match with the full metadata, particularly the title. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 10:05, 29 January 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Do you have a feel for how much work something like that would be to make? I've no experience at that sort of bot production, but very keen to find people who are able to. If necessary, I'm happy to write a grant to get some funding it it's a big job (the same probably goes for the items in this bot request). Would you like to contribute to a WikiProject COVID-19 ?[edit]

I saw you contributed to COVID-19 (Q84263196) and I was wondering if you would be interested in helping to create a Wikidata WikiProject COVID-19.

The goals would be initially (of course, they can be changed):

  • create a data model for instances of disease outbreak (Q3241045).
  • monitor the quality of the pages about national outbreaks listed in 2019–20 COVID-19 outbreak by country and territory (Q83741704).
  • curate the wikidata items relevant for describing the outbreaks and the virus itself.
  • curate and improve the information on Wikidata about scientific articles regarding the coronavirus (similar to the Wikidata:WikiProject_Zika_Corpus).
  • think and develop ways to process these items to improve access to information (for example, via automated articles in languages that currently do not have pages about country-specific outbreaks).

Would you like to participate in this effort?

I am trying to gather the Wikidata editors actively involved in the topic.I believe that if we act together, we can have a shot at aiding the global effort in containing the pandemic.

Mvh

— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 13:21, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Citation metrics in Scholia[edit]

Dear Sir,

As I stated in a previous email, Scholia does not support citation metrics for scientists, papers and institutions. However, such metrics (such as the number of citations) are important to give an overview of the citation activity of the analyzed scholarly entity. That is why I ask if we can integrate SPARQL queries computing citation metrics for a scientist. I already adapted some of the Scholia queries for that:

I am still working on a query to generate the h-index and even the g-index of a scientist. I am also working to apply these metrics on other types of entities.

Yours Sincerely,

--Csisc (talk) 20:53, 2 April 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Csisc: We do display citations information for some, e.g., "Citation statistics" at It is possible we should display information a bit better. It is probably difficult to compute the h-index within SPARQL. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 22:27, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Fnielsen: I thank you for your answer. I know. However, adding citation metrics will give a summary overview of the research impact of a topic, a scientist, a journal or another item. I know that the implementation of the h-index is difficult. That is why I propose to implement the i10-index instead. Please find the SPARQL query returned it above. I am currently working on implementing an adjusted impact factor currently available on --Csisc (talk) 13:23, 14 October 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

'da' or 'kl' ?[edit]

Hi Finn,

I notice a contradiction on arfininngorneq (L73728), the main lemma says 'da' but the language and the form says 'kl'. Could you take a look and correct if needed?

Invitation for the WikiProject COVID-19 call tomorrow (Monday, 15 of June)[edit]

Hello Finn,

How are you? I hope things are all right.

I would like to invite you to the tomorrow (Monday, 15 of June) call of the Wikiproject COVID-19 at 15:00 UTC .

This is the link for the call:

This is the link for the etherpad:

The WikiProject seems to be losing momentum. Perception of the size of COVID-19 as an enormous problem is fading (at least in Brazil). That might be a sign of things getting better, but it is also very dangerous (as they might not be that better yet).

In tomorrow's call, I would like to discuss with you two important and related questions:

- How can this WikiProject best serve the anti-COVID-19 effort?

- What can this project offer for the post-COVID-19 Wikidata world?

As usual, if you have any topics to add, you can do so either before at the Project Meeting Page or at the meeting. or at the meeting.

I hope you can make it!

All the best,

Interview Invitation[edit]

Hi Fnielsen,

I noticed your editing stats in Wikidata, which led me to look up your profile. Thank you for all the great work!

I’m reaching out to you because I’m working on a research project about understanding what motivates editors like you to contribute to Wikidata. We’re also interested in learning about how you feel your contributions are being used outside of Wikidata. Since you are such an active community member, I thought you might also be interested in helping to build the broader community’s knowledge about Wikidata, and why it matters.

If you’re interested, let’s schedule a time to talk over Zoom, or whichever platform you prefer. If you are interested, please fill in a questionnaire or leave a direct message. The conversation should take about 30 min.

Hope you have a great day,

Chuankaz (talk) 04:23, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Tak! Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 19:50, 6 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello. I saw your careful edit summary and thought I'd explain my view on P921. I work on it, and I noticed your revert (because it changed the order of statements).

Things have become complicated, but several high-quality sources are now used for main subjects. I use PubMed ID (P698), both with a bot that queries the PubMed API, and by hand, looking at the starred topics on the article page there, in this case (for the same information). There may be narrower topics available, as here, for example from the title of the article.

I believe it is better to keep the high-quality sources and their referencing, and include also text-mining from the title, with the sourcing based on heuristic (P887) inferred from title (Q69652283). In future, it is easy to see, people may wish to filter by the sources.

What I do is based on MeSH descriptor ID (P486), which has the advantage that the broader-narrower relationship can be controlled by MeSH tree code (P672). In this case you can see also an issue, which is that there have been problems with P486 statements on the wrong items, or constraint violations. That is why I have now removed the breast cancer (Q128581) statement, which was incorrect; breast neoplasm (Q23929670) is correct.

There are also keyword statements: see User talk:Daniel Mietchen#Keywords as main subjects for comments about those. I don't think the data modelling is great, but at present they are being included that way for P921. These keywords are typically generated by the authors of papers, so they are authoritative. But they are strings only, sometimes hard to disambiguate, and often incorrectly disambiguated.

As I say, it is complicated. With fuller MeSH information, it should be easier to import by bot from PubMed in the future. The MeSH strings should translate uniquely into Q-numbers, but that synching of 28K terms, which is nearly complete, still needs to be checked carefully. PubMed is the best general biomedical source: but there are other good specialised sources. The broader-narrow relationship should probably only be applied only when the source is the same.

I hope that helps.

Flere exempler end polsk[edit]

— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 14:45, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

WikiCite Virtual Conference - Scholia presentation?[edit]

Hi Fnielsen,

I am organising a session about author items in Wikidata on 26 October as part of the WikiCite Virtual Conference and would like to invite you to speak about Scholia profiles for researchers. It would be great to include a Scholia presentation as it demonstrates so well the importance of data quality. Please let me know if you are interested (email me if you prefer to discuss off Wiki). With best regards, Simon Cobb (User:Sic19 ; talk page) 19:31, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Great, I am happy that you will be participating. A presentation of 20-25 minutes would be ideal - you will have a 30 minute slot, including time for questions. I have drafted a schedule and hope to finalise the timings soon. It would be helpful if you could confirm that 15:00 UTC on 26 October is a suitable time for your talk? I will set up a page for the session when the conference wiki is ready. Simon Cobb (User:Sic19 ; talk page) 13:42, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@So9q: Mange tak for henvendelsen. Oprindeligt satte jeg genitiv ind, men en henvendelse herover ("Danish has no genitive case") stoppede mig.

Precisions on P8394[edit]

I saw that gloss quote (P8394) had a strange label in French so I tried to correct it but it's not entirely clear to me what this property is. Could you add a description in English?

If I understood correctly, shouldn't there be a citation needed constraint (Q54554025) ? (at least as suggestion but maybe mandatory?)

Also, maybe you would want to take a look at Wikidata talk:Lexicographical data#Author on a definition (scientific definitions) and constraint issues who use this property (it's how I discovered it).

Cheers, VIGNERON (talk) 08:51, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mvh So9q Wikimedia Sverige/Danmark--So9q (talk) 21:54, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 21:19, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Svar 7/1
Hej So9q
Tak for din henvendelse.

I Den

hurtigt googling.

Med venlig hilsen

. Hvordan går det med Telegram? Jeg har ikke set dig endnu derinde :)--So9q (talk) 06:32, 16 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

batch-edit Wikidata[edit]

Jon Harald Søby (talk) 15:46, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 16:02, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 17:49, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Text-to-lexemes for Wiktionary[edit]

It would be nice to have this tool when adding words to Wiktionary as well. Splitting up the text into words would be the same. Then it needs to see for each word if that form exists in Wiktionary. For Swedish words in Swedish Wiktionary, this could be a simple category look-up, but today we have no category for that. Would it help much if we had one? All the lexemes (basic forms) are found in wikt:sv:Kategori:Svenska/Alla_uppslag, but the inflected forms are not kept in a single category. Is text-to-lexemes too tightly coupled to Wikidata, for this wish to be realistic? Ideally, the tool would use a simple API towards Wikidata that could be replaced by a connection to a dictionary of choice. --LA2 (talk) 17:14, 26 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Lets import all the words from svWT instead. Then we could create a tool that makes a new WT page with every new lexeme and everything is in sync 😀 So9q (talk) 15:14, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Jeg må tænke lidt videre over sagen. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 20:35, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hvordan skal vi gøre med "vegne"?[edit]

DDO opgiver det som et substantiv. Hm.

— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 12:05, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors[edit]

Dear Fnielsen,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at or or use this form with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Gender confusion[edit]

Thanks for fixing sex or gender (P21) in Kim da Costa Carneiro (Q29413322). Just to clarify, when I changed it, it was due to the fact that Prabook (Q25328680) (which is presumably edited by the subject) refers to Carneiro as "daughter of Vasco V. and Kirsten E. (Prange) Carneiro". --Bender235 (talk) 14:02, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Bender235: Thanks for the explanation. I did not know Prabook. I wonder how much one can trust Prabook? — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 06:05, 14 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Now that I think about it, we should probably take it with a grain of salt. Previous discussions on Prabook in WP:RS/N (see Archive #211 and Archive #268) seem to agree that it generally falls under our WP:USERGENERATED guidelines. Either way, thanks for catching the mistake. --Bender235 (talk) 14:22, 14 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Danish Nonprofits[edit]

Hello Fnielsen, I just founded Wikidata:WikiProject Nonprofit_Organizations a few days ago. I've seen you created/edited some Danish NGOs. Perhaps you are interested in contributing? I'm especially interested if there is something like a national register of charities, an NGO ID or if there are umbrella organizations/lists of NGOs to expand the Identifier & Sources. Strange stem[edit]

I'm wondering about this Special:Diff/1373101140. First, you did it on London (L43313) which is the English lexeme but put a stem in Danish (I can see the same statement on London (L673696)). I'm guessing this is a mistake, no? VIGNERON (talk) 06:20, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@VIGNERON: It is clearly a mistake. I suppose it is "in my finger" and not in my conscious brain. Thanks for noting it. I have fixed it. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 09:27, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Danske love[edit]

Hi, wanted to report that you have mistakenly used the property successful candidate (P991) in 2015 Danish general election (Q1964961). The property is for candidates (aka political parties) who sucessfully got seats, not the name of every member elected. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. Thank you! KajenCAT (talk) 22:56, 8 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@KajenCAT:. Sorry. But for the Danish parliament it is people that is elected not parties. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 18:59, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, and also for the Catalan parliament, but Wikidata structure is this way. For the candidates elected, is in their item with position held (P39). Example: Aleqa Hammond (Q1796195) have this property with member of the Folketing (Q12311817). KajenCAT (talk) 20:14, 10 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Empty item (Q101404269)[edit]

Hello, I'm BrokenSegue. You recently made an empty item. An item is empty if it does not have any claims or sitelinks. Unfortunately, such items are not useful to Wikidata, and they are normally deleted. If you were planning to return to this item later in order to complete it and it was deleted you can request it be undeleted here. Remember that all items are expected to demonstrate notability, and we strongly discourage editors from creating items where they have a conflict of interest, for example about themselves or their employers. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!  BrokenSegue (talk) 01:21, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 17:36, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Eksempel: Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 18:03, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ja, jeg har set dem. Masker er generaliserede over shex. “ It includes a few lexical masks in the directory mask, as well as a script to transform the masks into ShEx files that can be used on lexicographic entries in Wikidata.” So9q (talk) 06:07, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So9q (talk) 22:38, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

“ Shape Expressions (ShEx) is a structural schema language for RDF graphs. It allows to express the graph structures such a Wikidata items. The class wdi_core.check_shex_conformance tests a wikidata item on conformance to a given ShEx. In the example below the wikidata item helium (!560) is checked for conformance to a schema expressed as shape expression for chemical element (E46). from wikidataintegrator import wdi_core

print("Q560 conforms to E46"+wdi_core.WDItemEngine.check_shex_conformance("Q560", "E46"))”

So9q (talk) 06:18, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Oh, it seems this is only implemented for items at the moment. 🤷‍♂️ See also So9q (talk) 06:25, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Would you like an API that takes a lexicographic category qid a language qid and an entity schema and gives back statistics to incorporate in ordia?
would you like an API that takes a lid, entity schema id and gives back whether it validate or not to incorporate in ordia? So9q (talk) 06:28, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It makes sense to have it in an external API to get the data. Or we could just recalculate for all shex we know about once a week and make it a core part of ordia. :I prefer a separate API to keep it simple.
We could offer precalculated json data updated once a week in addition to avoid lag in ordia. --So9q (talk) 06:34, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

So9q (talk) 16:43, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nej, endnu ikke. Det er på min todo-liste. Du kan se dokumentationen på Her kan man se at returnere noget relevant. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 16:48, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
— Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 10:28, 20 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Nyt værktøj for leksemerne[edit]

:) So9q (talk) 11:37, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It was caused by Swedish being hard coded in the SPARQL :sweat smile: Fixed now on master branch, see for first edit in danish lexemes. So9q (talk) 13:09, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Fnielsen Nu støtter det også -s- se So9q (talk) 10:46, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re Q2336584[edit]

Re this revert, the bot just imports from enwiki, and the short description is still live(!) at en:Faroese Scientific Society.... Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:00, 19 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Mike Peel: Now I am confused. Where is the short description on the English Wikipedia's page on the society? — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 19:04, 19 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
First line of the wikitext, template "Short description" - now reverted. If you spot bad descriptions added by Pi bot, the wikitext on enwiki is normally the best place to look for where it came from. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 07:16, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, not sure that items like Ny Literatur (Q121628709), Ny Literatur (Q121628713), Ny Literatur (Q121628706) are good idea. More items might be found using search. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 18:20, 26 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Ivan A. Krestinin: Yes. I have extended the metadata about the items and skip new similar "articles" when entering issues in Wikidata. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 10:38, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

may you please translate this to English for me?-- U. M. Owen (talk) 18:57, 6 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@U. M. Owen: Thanks for your interest. I have attempted a "translation" on the item now based "Nordic Lexicon" at "neck-payment" may be an English translation. halslausn is claimed on the page to be the "Old Nordic" form. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 12:14, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
