Can someone peak at Frank William Fox (Q83421697) and click on the link that was added by BYU. When I click on it, it demands I prove I am not a robot by turning on notifications for the website. Xwiki vandal following here to undo/revert vandalise

One of our ongoing pissant LTAs is following user:Beeswaxcandle and myself here to undo edits made, eg. history of Robert Lockhart Hobson (Q18911516) They are utilising proxy IP addresses, exact means unknown (not that it is particularly relevant), so difficult to specifically target except by utilising AF filters to stop the reversion of IP edits based on the previous person editing. Now I could write a filter from metawiki as a targeted global abuse filter, or I can write it locally (with my global rights), or I can leave it to this community to manage. Wikidata:Administrators'_noticeboard/Archive/2023/02#Tm and Wikidata:Project_chat/Archive/2021/05#Tm (and Wikidata:Project chat#Warring is showing the same facts for a third time) are pretty clear that native names are permissible in english (as other users told in those two discussions) and to be clear for the second time "to be clear it was not me added those spanish labels in barragem do bemposta but another user", a spanish one to boot.

As the other times it is you that is edit warring, not me, to again , after trying to deturpe what others say, going against of what was discussed and impose your will by edit warring. And the previous is exactly the answer i gave this user in my talkpage, after this same user, for the fourth of fifth time removed those names, even after the previous discussions that did not go the way he wanted, i.e. he starts edit warring, even after being explained, as does not like it, opens several sections like this one, he is proven completly wrong, he repeats the same edits and edit warring even after after discussions and opinions of several users to the contrary, waits a time, starts again with the edit warring, like he did this march 2023, February 2023 and November 2021, i.e. he has insisted three times since the original discussion to subvert the results of the same. @Xxxxxx1234, Estopedist1: Regardless of page protection, I will gladly refrain from editing the page until the dispute is settled. However, there are a couple of issues that I believe need to be addressed before any meaningful dispute resolution can take place.

First is the potential use of multiple accounts by Xxxxxx1234. Looking at the page history, I see a number of accounts and IP addresses engaged in pretty much the same activity, many of which have few or no edits outside this topic. The fact that Xxxxxx1234 referred to an item which he had not yet edited with this account as "his page" leaves me strongly convinced that he is connected to some or all of the previous accounts. If this is the case, I would appreciate it if Xxx came clean and disclosed all previous accounts that he had used.

Second is that based on the language used by this an other accounts (e.g. "‎user deleted all of my company information" [1]), I suspect that Xxxxxx1234 may be receiving financial compensation for their edits. If this is the case, I would like that to be disclosed.

Hello, administrators. I come here to ask you to check if an item created by me has been deleted.

I’m quite sure I’ve created an item for Laura Sabino (who now has this one), but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. It was created shortly after I had uploaded this image on Commons, so I suppose a range from February 10 to February 15 is a valid guess.

Well, it is very simple: that user only has one edit, and the edit is bad enough. They changed "filosof român și politician antisemit" ("Romanian philosopher and antisemitic politician") into "filosof român și mare politician creștin-ortodox, erou si martir al închisorilor comuniste" ("Romanian philosopher and great Eastern-Orthodox politician, hero and martyr of the Communist prisons"). I don't deny that M.V. died in prison, however, he was state secretary (i.e. underminister) in the pro-Nazi Romanian government and participated in government meetings which were discussing the most convenient ways of killing thousands of Jews and Roma. The word "martyr" is reserved for innocent people, who suffered injustice. There is no injustice in imprisoning and killing a Holocaust perpetrator. The only issue in scholarship is whether he had personal initiatives in respect to killing Jews and Roma, or he was merely a docile functionary executing government decisions, pretty much like Adolf Eichmann did in Germany. Again, he was no stranger to those government decisions, he listened to how Romanian ministers reached such decisions and he had ample opportunity to reply to them. It does not mean that I approve the fact that he was tortured and denied medical care, but, as people say, "Karma is a bitch!". Tgeorgescu (talk) 11:43, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

I have to disagree with ChristianKl. I do think that the gist of w:en:WP:NONAZIS is applicable on Wikidata as edits motivated by Nazi ideology are prima facie evidence of local abuse (and in many cases harassment) per WD:BLOCK and should result in blocks. However, I’m not convinced that there is a reason to block said user. From my understanding of the matter, I agree that the edit is highly problematic and the revert was justified. But while there might be good reasons to suspect a very questionable motivation behind the edit, I don’t think that calling the person in question a “martyr of the Communist prisons” can only be explained by sympathy for Nazi ideology. In any case, the account is stale now, so this is a somewhat moot point anyway.

That being said, I don’t think that Elizium23’s claim that Tgeorgescu’s notice is a violation of NPA is justified. --Emu (talk) 14:24, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

WP:NONAZIS says "There is also a misconception that because maintaining a neutral point of view is one of Wikipedia's five fundamental principles, administrators would be acting contrary to this if they blocked a racist editor upon learning of their public self-identification". It argues for banning people who haven't made any problematic edits because of the way they self identity. It's worth noting here that Wikidata exist as a neutral ground and not to enforce Anglo-American values. Racists beliefs are mainstream in countries like China or Japan.

I do agree that this particular edit goes against Wikidata policy as descriptions are supposed to be neutral. "Romanian philosopher and antisemitic politician" which was at the beginning however also wasn't neutral. There's no statement on the item that says anything about "antisemitic" and reducing him to that likely isn't neutral.

Wikidata descriptions are not to judge people as good or bad but to describe people in a neutral way and ideally in line with the sourced statements on the item. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 15:10, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

I respectfully disagree. You can’t contribute to Wikidata in a meaningful and neutral way if you self-identify as a Nazi or if you openly propagate racist ideology (which would probably violate the Terms of Service anyway). That’s not “Anglo-American values”, that’s just common sense. However, in most cases users that openly hold those beliefs are also vandals, edit warriors or AGF offenders, so it’s probably more of an academic debate.

Descriptions should be neutral, that’s true. I’m not competent enough to assess the best description for Mircea Vulcănescu (Q6873038): Romanian philosopher and pro-Nazi war criminal but “antisemitic politician” isn’t necessarily against our neutrality policy as it can be descriptive. The way to contribute in a neutral way is to focus on the principle of neutrality. That's possible regardles of how people self-identify.

Take Ukraine and their legal glorification of Nazi collaborators (they are by law folk heros), Ukraine is similar to Romania in that there are nationalists who want to see people who fought against communist as heros even if those were Nazi collaborators. It was deleted for not meeting WD:N, but I am convinced that it does meet the Wikidata notability criterion 3 (despite me having to delete the corresponding Ukrainian Wikipedia article as it failed to have any valid references). Hi, Hesammodinrezae asked me to unblock them, they also left a note on their talk page here but didn't use {{Unblock}}. They were auto-blocked: 'Automatically blocked by abuse filter. Description of matched rule: LTA 173 (Hesamodin Rezaei)'. There's not enough information for me to do any more, does anyone know more about this? @Infovarius I have restored the item. I believe there was a brief period when the merge tool sometimes failed to perform the redirect, leaving items empty. Many were then incorrectly deleted. In this case, I agree that reactors and power are not quite the same thing, but I completed the merge (to prevent immediate deletion as empty) and leave it to you to fix as you see fit. I don't know much about these organizations, but I have asked both to review the situation.

The cynicism and cheekiness is unbelievable! This user, since his expulsion from the Spanish Wikipedia for serious offenses, has dedicated himself to evading the blockade, creating accounts, sending offensive, threatening and spam emails from his "wiki" to multiple users, including me. Just a few days ago he entered the IRC channel of the Spanish Wikipedia to tell me "que te den por culo" (which IS an insult, while what I have told you is far from being that, even if you deserve another stuff). The message that I have deleted is exactly the same thing that he has been doing: mocking that he is evading his block, that he sends emails and messages to other editors asking them to go edit his "wiki", which is SPAM and should be punished. So "excuse me" if I am out of touch with an immature and childish person who has spurned any and all rehab opportunities given to him; my patience has a limit and spurious reports like this greatly exceed it. As LuchoCR pointed out, it might not be wise to bring your problems from other projects to Wikidata and I would ask you not to do this again. The user Tm insists on adding Galician and Portuguese aliases as other languague’s aliases on Q3375350 and Q3375706. Could someone stop him?

As pointed out here on Wikidata:Vandalism, “Non-administrators can report persistent vandalism to WD:AN”. I already tried to speak with him on his discussion page and on Wikidata:Project chat with no results, nobody seems to care. This user has done the same kind of nonsense editions before. It is also worth poiting out that there was also several previous discussions and all point (or almost point in the same direction)

The first one was in 2011 in Wikidata:Project_chat/Archive/2021/05#Tm and by that discussion it was pretty clear that what i did is perfectly acceptable. Lojwe, not happy with the results of the discussion of two years back tried to revert the results of the discussion and, after i reverted to the results of previous discussion opened a second Wikidata:Administrators'_noticeboard/Archive/2023/02#Tm and Wikidata:Administrators'_noticeboard/Archive/2023/03#Warring, to try to block me, where again the result was the same but was advised to open a new discussion in Wikidata:Project chat, thing that he only did after the closure of the march discussion in this noticeboard

The same discussion is still open Wikidata:Project_chat#Warring but again the discussion was again not going to what he favoured but now is now even split, so he now, opens a third thread in here, so the fifht in total and fourth this year.

Besides the constant opening of new discussions when the previous do not favoured him, now he tries to canvass other users, but as the canvassing failed he now tries to remove other peoples comments? Tm (talk) 18:47, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

@Emu, it takes two to edit-war, so if Tm was not so quick to revert Lojwe and had discussed on the talk pages, Lojwe wouldn't be edit-warring either.

As for me and my involvement: Yes, when Lojwe came to my talk page, I rejected his suggestions because I did not relish being embroiled in any edit-war at all, much less one I don't care about. I was simply a third-party commenting on a noticeboard and Lojwe took it upon himself to canvass my involvement. That is why I said, multiple times, that I was not involved and I didn't plan to get involved in that dispute. I closed two threads on my talk page. That is correct.

Unfortunately I did become involved in Lojwe's drama because this thread has now been opened and Lojwe chose to engage in some very unsavory behavior. What I have seen in the last 24 hours, I feel, is grounds for a final warning or even a short block, because none of us should have to put up with these shenanigans. I am now involved, insofar as Lojwe's behavior is in question at this point. I trust that adequate diffs have been furnished so that admins can review them to determine sanctions. I really wish to say as little as possible here, because frankly, you lot are extremely detrimental my mental health. I'm already blocked on enwiki because I lost my cool during Christmastime. Who’s saying it makes sense to repeat a Galician alias in the section of Spanish aliases on Q3375350. Where’s the consensus? Who’s in favour appart from Tm? Please, check what Tm is doing on Q3375350 and you will see it doesn’t make sense. Nothing has been decided about this on WD:AN. He’s just repeatin the Galician alias “Encoro de Bemposta” and the Portuguese alias “Barragem de Bemposta” in the section of Spanish aliases. Those names are already in the Galician and the Portuguese section of aliases and they’re not Spanish. Citizenship of King Solomon (Q37085)

Property / country of citizenship of Solomon (Q37085) was changed on 2023-01-17 from "Kingdom of Israel" to "Palestine" (by User:176.29.241.235), as part of an edit that decreased the size of the item by 739 characters. These properties now match the "place of birth" and "work location". However, I would expect someone listed as "king of Israel and son of [the previous king]" to be a citizen of the country he was king of. Perhaps this diff from January should be reviewed?

Problems with sockpuppets on white hole (Q131468)

As you can see in the item's history, there are several accounts, often only with one or a few edits, working on changing the item's labels, aliasses and descriptions in a few languages. I have seen this behaviour on several other items and would like to ask for help here since the item is already semi-protected and the accounts are constantly changing. Banned user using bot to repeatedly add time period

Can an admin either protect the target items or else prevent the bot from repeatedly adding vague information that shouldn't be added? I hate trying to fight bots, and in this case the data is being added by a banned user via the bot.

The basic problem is that time period (P2348) is meaningless for a work of literature without context. What is it about the work that "time period" refers to? Date of writing? Date of publishing? As a blocked user, I'm banned from the community, so there shouldn't be any discussion about me here, especially: since I can't edit, I can't use bots either (that would be breaking the sockpuppet rule).
I speak only in exceptional situations, primarily for the benefit of certain users (e.g. Vojtech Dostal, who created a lot of duplicates and does not pay much attention to their merging - nota bene he is not a banned user).
Here too, I will make an exception, but only once, because if I am to participate in any full discussions, bear any responsibility, then only as a member of the community, and I am not.
By "the/this user" I mean this "Encyclo Petey".
To the point:
In general, users are not entitled to judge whether a given statement is true or not, if they do not have evidence supported by independent sources (from this rule they are, (as common usage (eng. uzus )), exceptions).
All data taken from the Wolne Lektury website is correct and good source for us (us - Wikidata). Like an ox stands on each side of the song: "epoka" (this is one of the aliases for P2348, both for Polish and English). Hence, the chosen property is correct in my opinion. There is no source to dispute this.
This user probably has not contacted Wolne Lektury to delete this or something - and even if he did - he would probably have been ignored.
Even if it is considered incorrect data modeling, the catalog in MnM should be corrected accordingly, of course not removing the statements about the literary era, but replacing them with more appropriate properties. The user did nothing about it, the MnM tool is probably foreign to him.
Even if the user does not want to properly model the data in the catalog in MnM, at least he have to follow the rules. Unfortunately, this user is not following them and is wasting resources on the Wikimedia servers (bot re-add, undo, bot re-add, undo, etc. instead of bot-add, expired rank).
Rules say (I'll quote them, the braces test [] is my addition):
Other statements should ideally only ever have one value, but can contain additional values that may provide historical information, an alternative perspective, or a different result depending on the method of measurement or scientific approach used.
The deprecated rank is used for statements that are known to include errors (i.e. data produced by flawed measurement processes, inaccurate statements) or that represent outdated knowledge (i.e. information that was never correct, but was at some point thought to be). It is often useful to indicate the reason for a deprecation with a depreciation reason (P2241) qualifier.
Marking erroneous statements as deprecated instead of simply deleting such statements has three benefits:
it allows other users to know not to re-add the value to the item
it upholds and establishes the integrity of Wikidata as a secondary knowledge base (that collects and links to references), rather than a primary database of facts. Wikidata simply provides information according to specific sources; those sources may or may not reflect contemporary thought or scientific consensus.

Ranks are not a way of asserting your view for a disputed value, but instead are used for communicating the consensus opinion for a statement.

As we can see, there is no recommendation to constantly revert edits.
One more thing, I think this directory is EXTREMELY needed from a Wikidata point of view, as it would allow for a more efficient separation of literary work (Q7725634) items from version, edition or translation (Q3331189) items. There are plenty of things that require this as well as needing to add labels and basic statements (plwikisource, created by me).
Unfortunately, I can't do that, but to help Wikidata a little bit, and not to be forever complaining about me for leaving a mess, I created a directory in MnM.

The basic issue remains: a bot is being used to add data with no context, and which should be added using a property with context. Most of these already have a date of first performance listed. Without context there is no way to determine the meaning of "time period" for a literary work. While I raise an eyebrow at banning an user and still allowing its bot (which is doing a good job, as far as I can tell), the problem is not the bot nor the user but rather the use of P2348 and whether this is a good match for Wolne Lektury's "Epoka" when used for written works. New report for admins: deleted Wikidata entities used in SDC

Fellow admins, a couple of weeks ago I discovered that I had deleted plenty of items which are being actively used via SDC (structured data at Wikimedia Commons). This sort of use is very difficult to detect—one needs to run a query in WCQS—so most admins probably do not keep an eye on this. In some sense, items in use at SDC meet the notability criteria as this poses "structural need".

So I wrote a bot that reports deleted entites (items as of now) that are being used at SDC: Wikidata:Database reports/Deleted Wikidata entities used in SDC; there are currently ~1300 cases listed on this report. The bot will probably update the report weekly from now on, and I can tweak it if you have suggestions. All of this is similar to this report by Pasleim's bot.

I suggest that admins review their own deletions on this list. At some point we might consider actions for remaining cases as well. —MisterSynergy (talk) 11:04, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Yes, there should be a convenient summary of item usages: backlinks, entity usage, SDC usage, (maybe more?) ...

If the new report wasn't that long, I would offer custom links to WCQS for each case. It is not feasible for 1300 deleted items, however, so you need to start with the example given at the top of the report page and insert the QID of the deleted item instead of Q42 in order to see where it is used at Commons. ---MisterSynergy (talk) 15:30, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Options are:

1. this is structural use, thus it implies notability; if you think this item should be deleted nevertheless, you invoke a lengthy deletion process at Commons and wait for the outcome
2. this is not structural use and the item can be deleted; your options:
   • you need to make editorial decisions (remove the usage) on other projects because of non-notability at Wikidata
   • or you leave the deleted item in use without notifying the project

I agree, the situation with a couple of wikis is really not ideal, Commons in particular included.

As side note: re. Commons it would be helpful to have a joint Wikidata-Commons RfD process for cases which have mutual dependencies via usage. Commons (rightfully) defines itself as a service project for others just as Wikidata does, thus notability in their project depends on external usage as well (e.g. in Wikidata in a P18 claim). Circular notability loops to protect questionable content is really a situation we do not need here, and we should of course avoid complicated lengthy discussions due to unclear responsibilities (status quo).

However, it seems that files containing similar text as the QID are also listed as search results if I search for the plain QID. If I search for Q2893475, it also lists File:Forestry in Glen Clova - geograph.org.uk - 2893475.jpg which contains the numeric ID in the title (and at other places). There are 423 SDC matches for the items I deleted. I looked into some of them, in many cases I probably lack the knowledge of Commons and/or the subject matter to fix the situation on Commons. Since SDC is effectively dead and has been for quite some time, I doubt that it would be a good use of my time to learn enough to fix this myself, to be perfectly honest. --Emu (talk) 11:40, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

When I reviewed the situation for my own deletions back in January, I found that I had deleted 1138 items that are being used via SDC. This was almost as much as all other admins together :-)

An individual review was not feasible due to the amount, of course, so I batch-restored everything with a script. If the usage via SDC is not appropriate or removed, everyone can still RfD these items since their notability at best hinges on the usage via SDC.

This is "entity usage" (via modules/templates/parser functions on client wikis) what you are looking at. Wikidata usage at SDC is not included there and never has been, unfortunately. You really need to run a query against the Commons Query Service in order to be sure; alternatively, you can search for the QID at Commons as indicated by User:Ymblanter above, which would also show you files using the Wikidata item (this can include false positives, though). —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:42, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

FYI: There is now a link to WCQS including a simple query to list usage in SDC on the "page information" view (section "External tools") for item pages. This happens via MediaWiki:Pageinfo-footer, but it is visible on the "page information" view only when using the default English user interface.
