Why is it discrimination? The article is simply protected to prevent vandalism from mostly non logged in users. The protection mechanism always has worked like this: It either blocks everyone or everyone from a certain group (what I mean here is, all users or anonymous users) or nobody. You could say it's collectoral damage and you would be right, but I don't see a change happening anytime soon unfortunately. A lot of nonsense has been added to the item and its talk page by anonymous users. We need to protect the project from this sort of persistent malicious activity, thus anonymous users cannot edit related content anymore.

Sorry for my ignorance. I was unaware that an item needed a claims (not sure what a claim is) or a site link. I must of missed that in the tutorial of creating an item. The brand that I added is Vestis which has a site of https://www.vestis.com/. They used to be apart of the Amarack https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q625708 corporation. But just last month became its own entity. Thus it does not have a wikipedia page yet under the Vestis name. I am hoping it can be undeleted so I do not have to create another page for it. A dynamic IP has been adding fake official link to this item. The IP range has been blocked on en.WP for the same behavior (see log). Examples: [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]. The official link is chaturbate(.)com, whereas in the first example they post chatturbate(.)cam and the rest they post chaturibate(.)com. They generally move on to a different page fairly quickly (and come back later with a different URL), but in their latest edit summary, they started trolling (don't see how this is spam so undoing edit, when they are well aware of what they are doing). In my experience with them, when they start trolling on en.WP, they plan on sticking to that page for a while, so I'd like to have it nipped in the bud with semi-protection before it goes on too long. Adding controversial claims while not familiarizing yourself with the rules on Wikidata is risky. Small issue with Net Zero Emissions articles (Q1774424 and Q121734997)

I noticed that if you go on the Net Zero Emissions article there are only 3 translations whereas there should be 30 (see Neutralité carbone for example). I believe this is due to the fact both Q121734997 and Q1774424 are essentially the same thing. I cannot edit the interlingual link to fix this issue as i do not have the required permissions to do the change (error: "You are trying to add/remove badges to this item. At local Wikipedias adding or removing badges are done by consensus. Saving this edit was blocked and should be done only by administrators or trusted users. If you think you are correct, please contact an administrator."). I hope you can help me fix this small issue. For help with merges you can read Help:Merge. For carbon neutrality (Q1774424) net zero (Q121734997) the Wikidata items can't be merged because Cywiki has articles for both. Also it appears that some treat the two terms as distinct. From the Net zero emissions article on Enwiki:

In some contexts, however, the terms are given different meanings from each other. For instance, some standards bodies allow more use of offsets for carbon neutral certification than for net zero certification.

Ok. So some wikis like Enwiki redirect people from carbon neutrality to the net zero emissions article and others like Cywiki have an article for each if I understood correctly. Is there a way then to still update the interlingual link so that people can easily access the articles in a different language. I suppose there are 2 possible solutions: either we try to merge both items and then make the difference explicitly clear on each wiki or we make sure that each wiki has both a carbon neutrality page and a net zero page so that we can link the translations and then we can redirect to the article where there actually is content. Report concerning User:Dionysos1988

The editor @Dionysos1988 has added hundreds of false and incorrect claims to items since 2022, and continues to add additional incorrect and unsourced claims.

Dionysos1988 made edits to ~120 items (subclasses of county of the United States) that made false claims that the items were instances of metropolitan statistical area (Q1768043) (MSA), e.g., here. These edits were in conjunction with additional ones made to a different set of ~150 items (subclasses of human settlement) that incorrectly claimed that the latter items were located in statistical territorial entity (P8138) of the former items, e.g., here. This was discussed at length, here.

At the aforementioned discussion, the editor indicated that there was a lack of concern for the veracity of the claims added and that Wikidata merely functions as a "back-up project": As Wikidata is only a back-up project to support displaying data in Wikipedia, we did not care for the fact that a county is not a MSA. We just worked out, how to add the new census data in a reasonable expense.

Additionally, Dionysos1988 added (or changed to) incorrect and contradictory claims for scores of separate, but related, items such as the following: Bridgeport #1 and Bridgeport #2.

Much more recently, Dionysos1988 added an incorrect value for population (P1082), here, and an incorrect reference for it, here; added a duplicative claim, instead of merging duplicate items, here; created the incorrect claim that New York metropolitan area (Q683705) contains the administrative territorial entity (P150) Lakewood (Q602499), here, and the incorrect inverse, here, while the correct object item is Lakewood Township (Q1088792); and created the incorrect claim that Kiryas Joel (Q913420) is located in statistical territorial entity (P8138) in New York metropolitan area, while according to all available sources, it is actually located in the statistical territorial entity of Kiryas Joel-Poughkeepsie-Newburgh metropolitan area (Q7235506). Multiple requests made to the editor to adhere to the guidelines of WD:S have been largely ignored.

On 18 October 2023, Dionysos1988 created two more new items with instances of MSA: Walla Walla metropolitan area (Q123119795) and Enid metropolitan area (Q123119684). The editor added values for FIPS 6-4 (P882) to these newly created items, but ignored the six required property constraints for P882 and the constraint violations created, as a result.

Dionysos1988 disregarded these same property constraints for the following other items that Dionysos1988 recently created: Tucson metropolitan area (Q122851217), Honolulu metropolitan area (Q122851392), Palm Bay–Melbourne–Titusville metropolitan area (Q122852325), Ocala metropolitan area (Q122852759), Naples–Marco Island metropolitan area (Q122852784), Boulder metropolitan area (Q122871778), Greeley metropolitan area (Q122871797), Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater metropolitan area (Q122871825), Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater metropolitan area (Q122871825), Bremerton–Silverdale–Port Orchard metropolitan area (Q122871868), Norwich–New London–Willimantic metropolitan area (Q122872075), Norwich–New London–Willimantic metropolitan area (Q122872075), Yakima metropolitan area (Q122872283), Bellingham metropolitan area (Q122872452), Punta Gorda metropolitan area (Q122887737), Hammond metropolitan area (Q122961028), Wildwood–The Villages metropolitan area (Q122961054), Mount Vernon–Anacortes metropolitan area (Q122961100), and Sierra Vista–Douglas metropolitan area (Q122961176).

I request that Dionysos1988 be blocked from editing any item related to an instance of metropolitan statistical area (Q1768043), and possibly a temporary block from editing Wikidata as a whole. Dionysos1988's large amount of false and incorrect claims, over an extended period of time, do not serve to maintain the integrity and reliability of Wikidata, and significant amount of time and effort has been expended to revert, remove, and correct those claims, and will likely continue. I already clearly stated that I`d appreciate it if you helped me in that issue. We are only a minor step away from the situation that every MSA has its own Wikidata item, each with inhabitant numbers and the MSA`s principal cites linked to these items. We are talking about 30 items or so that still have to be modified or created. Why are you so destructive instead, just reverting incorrect edits and trying me to be blocked? We could have been finished with this issue weeks ago. I admit I`m not the Wikidata expert here. I am only editing here to improve the Wikipedia project. Even more I thought there is somebody here who is more familiar with it and could assist in this matter. A metropolitan statistical area (Q1768043) (MSA) is a component of a U.S. federal government statistical dataset created in 1950, with multiple subsequent changes made to its inclusion criteria. Since 2003, new delineation lists and files have been published approximately every three years. That an editor who has extremely limited knowledge and understanding of this particular data would make massive and significant edits related to it, let alone create large amount of new items that are instances of it, is inexplicable. Case in point: @Dionysos1988 created last month a new item for the MSA Waterbury-Shelton metropolitan area (Q122838070) and then proceeded to add its population for 1 April 2020. I'd like to hear from other subject experts here, and I want to give this conversation a chance to go somewhere productive, but I also wanted to make a general point. While it is a major goal of Wikidata to support the needs of client projects, we do not allow editors to add incorrect claims (or delete correct ones) merely because it seems to fix a local problem on a client project.

Hi Bovlb! The problem we want to solve is, that prior to the 2020 United States Census (Q23766566), in Wikipedia population numbers of US places have been edited manually in every single article. This was, due to the huge amount of articles of US places, not any longer a meaningful option. In Wikipedia, we need to focus on creating and expanding articles and not just to update regularly published data. As we do not have enough active members in WP, a lot of articles consisted of completely outdated data, mostly of 2010, but also even of 2000. Therefore we decided to find a new solution. As the United States Census Bureau (Q637413) provides data being connected to the FIPS 6-4 (P882) for each place (and Countys, MSAs...), as part of the creation of the Wikidata project it was now possible to upload official population data directly onto Wikidata in order to display it directly in every single language version of Wikipedia.

Since last year, data from the 2020 census regarding places and counties is fully uploaded in Wikidata. What still lacks is the metropolitan statistical area (Q1768043) data. Originally we in the German US project thought it would be no problem to handle a MSA, what consists of only one county, as the county itself in Wikidata. In this way we wanted to avoid the effort to create about 200 additional WD items, as it was just our aim to display the population numbers of these "special" MSAs, like every other MSA, in Wikipedia.

Then, weeks ago, DCflyer* showed up and told me that this was incorrect and every one-county-MSA needs to have its own item. Therefore I started to create these items, not exactly knowing what an item has exactly to look like. I just created them like I created the other MSA items last year, and nobody cared about any sources, in opposite to this time: User:Dcflyer watched out for my edits and undid many of them, saying this and that was unsourced or false. Unfortunately I didn`t know the list of MSAs has been updated by the US government in July this year, after there has been published a list only three years earlier, in 2020, when the census took place. Because of that, I accidentally added outdated data to some items, to what User:Dcflyer called my attention. A further problem, like stated above, is, that there is no new data for the MSAs created in 2023, as the last census took place in 2020. Even User:Dcflyer has no solution for that problem, but is on the other side also not really willing to help me here. He rejected my suggestion to use data of 2020 (of the counties the MSAs were made of this year) without showing any alternative. Instead, he just keeps watching what I do. If he just did what he announced to do (creating and adding the missing items), we would have been finished and this confrontation would not take place here.

From my part, I just politely ask to create the missing like 30 items with population numbers and FIPS code included, then this issue is done and everything is fine. After this matter, I am not going to edit in Wikidata anymore, because the data management issue regarding US places would then be completed. Sorry for my bad English. Kind regards Stefan (talk)

Hi @Bovlb, one last point, and one to hopefully move on from going forward, @Dionysos1988 also removed correct statements and claims. For instance, the correct claim of P31, including its valid attached reference, was removed from this item, and another item's correct en label, description, aliases, and seven correct claims were removed here, instead of merging this item with its duplicate.

While there seems to be a constructive dialoge ongoing here, with a reasonable proposal by Stefan to solve the conflict, I just want to point out that a report in that sense is not justified here at all. While there might be different opinions on how to express the US Census Bureau MSA data in claims, there is definitely no bad faith in Stefan's edits – he has done so much annoying but essential work here which enabled us to upload all the census data. Or to be very clear: Yes, there might be different options about the MSA's in detail here – nothing which cannot be solved by finding a consensus. But we accomplished to upload the population and household numbers to ALL CDP's, cities, counties, and states, which would not have been possible without Stefan's work, and which has improved the Wikidata items tremendously (and I am talking about ca. 50,000 to 100,000 items). Obviously false propagandist naming in Wikidata: White Ruthenia is not White Russia

Hello, I noticed an obviously incorrect usage of name in Wikidata at White Russia (Q465341) (it repeats the false narratives of the Russian propaganda). The problem is that Russia is a much later country which is not equal to the region of Ruthenia and was created when tsar Peter the Great renamed the Principality of Moscow into the Russian Empire, but before this different regions of Ruthenia existed: White Ruthenia, Black Ruthenia, Red Ruthenia, etc. So such terminology as "White Russia" means that White Ruthenia (in modern times it is equal to the Republic of Belarus) is also Russia (Russian Empire). Seeing what is currently happening in Ukraine when the territory of the Republic of Ukraine is considered in the Russian propaganda as Little Russia, it is clearly not suitable to use Russian imperialist propaganda terminology for entities in the Wiki projects which describe regions/countries before Peter the Great's reforms of the Principality of Moscow (I repeat once again: Russia before tsar Peter the Great did not exist). Consequently, I request to rename White Russia (Q465341) to White Ruthenia. By the way, THIS is a good source about this issue which also explains that Ruthenia/Rus' is not equal to Russia. @Emu: Hello, this is not a content dispute and there is nothing much to discuss (please read the reliable source I provided and there are many, many more such evaluations that White Ruthenia/Belarus is not Russia/White Russia). This is an obvious bad-faith error which should be fixed to not present Wiki projects as an item of Russian propaganda. We do not describe apples as tomatoes. Frettie: those two are five by my count, but that's not what's interesting. It is clear that your bot performs countless useful edits, but at the same time, it was already suggested on October 23 that the operation of the bot (at least objectionable edits) could be suspended for the duration of the discussion. And this is an October 25 edit to the bot. (Isn't it interesting that the concept of "not hearing" occurs a second time?).
