Dass Wikinews-Kategorien mit Wikipedia-Artikel verlinkt werden ergibt sich für mich nicht automatisch. Außerdem habe ich es auch schon häufig anders gesehen. [WMF Board of Trustees - Call for feedback: Community Board seats] Meetings with the Wikidata community

The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is organizing a call for feedback about community selection processes between February 1 and March 14. While the Wikimedia Foundation and the movement have grown about five times in the past ten years, the Board’s structure and processes have remained basically the same. As the Board is designed today, we have a problem of capacity, performance, and lack of representation of the movement’s diversity. Our current processes to select individual volunteer and affiliate seats have some limitations. Direct elections tend to favor candidates from the leading language communities, regardless of how relevant their skills and experience might be in serving as a Board member, or contributing to the ability of the Board to perform its specific responsibilities. It is also a fact that the current processes have favored volunteers from North America and Western Europe. In the upcoming months, we need to renew three community seats and appoint three more community members in the new seats. This call for feedback is to see what processes can we all collaboratively design to promote and choose candidates that represent our movement and are prepared with the experience, skills, and insight to perform as trustees?

In this regard, two rounds of feedback meetings are being hosted to collect feedback from the Wikidata community. Two rounds are being hosted with the same agenda, to accomodate people from various time zones across the globe. We will be discussing ideas proposed by the Board and the community to address the above mentioned problems. Please sign-up according to whatever is most comfortable to you. You are welcome to participate in both as well!

The infobox on Wikipedia is for the first book edition, which is a different data item than the novel. Wikipedia is set up so that the first edition, and the novel itself are a single article, but Wikidata has separate data items for the novel and for each edition. Wikipedia is not wrong, it is just set up differently than Wikidata. --EncycloPetey (talk) 21:09, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

edit summaries

Could you please add edit summaries? See i.e. https://github.com/maxlath/wikibase-cli/blob/master/docs/write_operations.md#edit-summary . Also the link under PLnode* doesn't tell me anything about the tool you're using. --Hjart (talk) 11:10, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Hjart: I use the tool HarvestTemplates. You can find the link to this tool if you follow the link details and look at the edit groups. As far as I can see, it is not possible to add edit summaries. Maybe @Pasleim: can provide some additional informations about this. --Ameisenigel (talk) 11:32, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Custom summaries are very disliked on Wikidata because they are not translatable and Wikidata is, after all, a multilingual project. For this reason, they are also disabled for normal users. Preferred are automated summaries. But these only work if one edit is made at a time. HarvestTemplates, however, always makes two edits at once (add statement, add source). That's why I use the workaround and add the "details" link to each edit, where you can then get more information. --Pasleim (talk) 16:40, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

New tvar syntax

Hi! In case you’re not yet aware of it: there’s a new, more HTML/XML-compatible translation variable syntax <tvar name="1">...</tvar>, which will hopefully help editor tooling. Hi! I've made some changes to Wikidata:Zotero/Cita and I hope it will remain relatively stable now that initial development of Cita has ended and that the presentation workshops have taken place. Maybe we could open it for translation to other languages.
BTW, full documentation on Cita is not available yet and it is open to contributions. However, as I'm not sure what language volunteers willing to write it (if any) speak, I thought having a main language version (and the others derived from this one) might not work. Hi, I have marked the page for translation and have removed the language priorisation. I have removed File:Grabación del taller de presentación de Cita.webm for now since this file seems not to exist. In general I have no problem with not using the translation system. I just want to mention that it is possible to have other languages than english as the main language that is translated into other languages and that it is possible to import translations using page migration, when a page is added to the translation system and there are already language-specific versions of this page. Thanks for doing this! Yes, I've been trying to upload that file since yesterday but keep having trouble. Wanted to have the placeholder in the meantime, but it's OK that you removed it. I will just add it again once I finally manage to upload it. Regarding the documentation, I won't have time to write it myself for now, and I don't know what language volunteers will use to collaboratively write it (if that ever happens), so having other language than English as the main language might work, but not yet. Good to know that it is possible to import translations using page migration. We may need that in the future. Thanks again!! Different CAS has no meaning, see also the example given by Leyo, recently. The InChi key is a unique identifier that is only identical for tautomers. That's why WikiProject:Chemistry uses it exclusively to identify compounds. You can search for existing keys via SPARQL:

Linking a translated page

I recently became an auto-confirmed user, but I still don't have permission to link a translated page to a main page. The page does, however, say that auto-confirmed users can perform this activity. I was auto-confirmed about 40 minutes ago, so perhaps it takes some time? I would like to know more about this/when I'll have permission. I get this message: "This page is currently create-protected and can be created only be established registered users." There's a blue lock next to it.

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

Translations of templates

Please can you help me? I created Template:Property being deleted and Template:Property being deleted/text/en but I think I am not supposed to create that subpage manually, it should be a copy/translation of Template:Property being deleted/text which I have not created yet. I would recommend to move Template:Property being deleted/text/en to Template:Property being deleted/text without leaving a redirect and then set up the page for translation. It is explained in detail on mw:Help:Extension:Translate/Page translation administration. In short: You have to add translate tags to the parts that should be translatable (in this case there should only be one translation unit) and then you can mark the page for translation (but you need translation admin rights to do so (you can grant them to yourself)). --Ameisenigel (talk) 20:48, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Alexis Claude Clairaut, not Clairault

I’ve found such usage only in ruwiki (possibly, it also exist somewhere also but I don’t know about it) and it isn’t documented. So I decided that changing ruwiki to wikidatawiki may cause situation when the script doesn’t recognise the class. Hallo, ich habe deine Erklärung „have sitelinks for the same project“ nicht verstanden. Doch inzwischen mir die Objekte noch genauer angesehen, für eine Diskussion. Dabei fand ich, dass von jedem der beiden Items Links in die en-WP und die cs-WP führen. the en:SEAT el-Born is a redirection from a page move to en:Cupra Born. Nur die cs-Wikipedia hat zwei inhaltlich verschiedene Artikel, nämlich cs:CUPRA Born und cs:SEAT el-Born. Es handelt sich um einen klar abgrenzbaren wirklichen Gegenstand, welcher mit glaubwürdigen und öffentlichen Belegen beschrieben werden kann. Das Item bereicherte das Bereitstellen einer allgemeinen Wissensquelle für die gesamte Welt durch Wikidata. Wikivoyage ist ganz erheblich von Wikidata abhängig. Aus den Items werden sogenannte vCards erstellt, welche auch den Seiten dann das Objekt leicht wartbar als klickbaren Text darstellen.

Indizes und Bots

Hallo Ameisenigel,

ich habe vor, bei den Staaten in Wikidata bestimmte Kennzahlen hinzuzufügen (Transparency international Corruption Perception Index, Gini-Koeffizient, Happy Planet Index, evtl. Biodiversity inactness index und viele mehr). Ohne Bot ist das mühsam, daher habe ich mich in das Thema Bots eingearbeitet. Aktuell stoße ich an ein paar Probleme, bei denen ich Hilfe brauche:

- Wie bekommt mein Bot schreibrechte?
- Oder gibt es schon einen Bot, der solche Kennzahlen-Listen abarbeiten kann?
- Das "Formular" zum Beantragen von Properties habe ich noch nicht ganz verstanden.
- Gibt es derzeit ein aktives Projekt, bei den man mitarbeiten kann, um insgesamt mehr Ahnung (und Hilfe) zu bekommen? Das kann auch gerne in der englischsprachigen Community sein.

Ansonsten kannst du auch auf Wikidata:Bot requests eine Anfrage stellen, damit sich ein anderer Bot-Betreiber um dein Anliegen kümmert. Vielleicht ist für dein Anliegen aber auch OpenRefine geeignet. Eigenschaften können auf Wikidata:Property proposal vorgeschlagen werden. Auf der passenden Unterseite kann man dann über das Formular die entsprechende Seite erstellen. My admin rights were removed a while ago under the lazy reasoning "You made so many edits that we couldn't check whether you actually fulfilled the rules as written because that would be to much effort" and then I went a time without flags that were given to me like the rollbacker flag and the autoconfirmed flag. Given that adminship gets removed in the most lazy way possible and flags are not given in such cases, there's no good reason for you to take away flags from me and I see no policy that allows you to remove those flags to me.

While the policy says that I don't need to apply those flags to myself it doesn't forbid me from doing so. Please restore the flags that you removed without valid justification. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 18:18, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I have to admit that I do not really understand the problem. If you ever loose admin rights,
  • you will not loose autoconfirmed, because this right cannot be revoked, so you will mever need condirmed
  • you can request rollback from any admin or at WD:RFOR without fulfilling any hard requirements.
  • you can request property creator at WD:RFOR and if your rights have been removed because of inactivity we do not even need to wait for 48 hours.

That is a community decision, and relates to the guidance that has been set up. The WSes are not WPs, and they are clearly different criteria for linking. It would also where you should be listening to the sister wikis and their experienced users.

I would also say that your decision to close in the matter that you did contradicts your statement that I should not have removed those links. As far as I know we do not have a written policy about this. This may be related to the fact that we do not have as many policies like other projects (especially Wikipedia). I think this situation could be compared with deletion requests in other projects. You typically do not blank a page if you want to request their deletion.
In this case the linking and the deletion cannot be considered without each other: If the linking is incorrect the item does not fulfill WD:N. If the linking is correct, it would fulfill WD:N.
If an administrator decides about a deletion request, they will have to consider the page history. It makes our work easier if nothing is removed before the decision about the deletion is made. --Ameisenigel (talk) 21:01, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
