The edits by Hazim saeed are disruptive but they are not abusive. The edit-summary by the IP address is what I was referring to. Apologies for the confusion. When you need to hide an edit summary, you just need to select "edit-summary" from the list and unselect other options: "revision text" and "Editor's username/IP address" once you click Change visibility. Hmm true, I filed this report as a matter of standard practice. I suppose it may be worth protecting Max Verstappen (Q2239218). Given that the first Grand Prix of the season was yesterday, if Max continues to place 1st in these grand prix events I imagine the temptation of passers-by to prematurely declare him the winner will be great. Request for semi-protect

for Q55627184. As you can see in the page history, there are many spambots or VOAs using "official website" to replace the true official website to the website with a register code. Once the user clicked the wrong website with the code and register an account, they will get paid. Since the vandalism started on 24 May 2023, I think the item need a long semi-protect period. The bookselling websites are surely reduntant here. On the other hand, BNF ID and this article(?) are enough to regard the person notable (clearly identifiable conceptual or material entity). Concerns regarding Special:AbuseFilter/123

This filter is a great tool to prevent specific spam from IP users trying to create promotional or other inappropriate user pages, and it also prevents some user page vandalism. The issue, though is that it often catches - and logs - users who try to create or edit their own user page while - unknowingly - being logged off. It's public log can work as a honeypot for information falling within the scope of oversight. And while most users who inadvertently reveal their IP address by editing or creating their userpage will notice it and can request OS, I am not that confident that they'll know the existence of this log to make a similar request.

One solution to this problem could be to treat it like Special:AbuseFilter/42 (emails) and hide it's details from public view; It's log can protect PII, while it's not too helpful or useful to non-admins, not to an extent that justifies this risk at least, in my opinion. Minecraft (Q49740): Request to un-obsolete Fandom article ID

On https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q49740

The fandom Article ID of minecraft:Minecraft has been deprecated to be marked as obsolete. Although the Wiki forked, the Fandom wiki is not obsolete. It is still an active community, with active editing taking place. The wikidata page is locked so I don't know how else to address this other than to ask here for help for it to be un-deprecated.

Our understanding has been that the admins of that wiki have effectively deprecated it and encouraged everyone (readers and editors) to use the new wiki hosted by Weird Gloop. See our discussion on the topic: Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Minecraft#New_Minecraft_Wiki.

That is a huge help as it is actually. I'm doing wiki at SXSW right now, so my attention is naturally on those topics at the moment. But when I get a moment I'll run through links to the Minecraft Fandoms that are deprecated and write a QuickStatements to fix them.

Agreed that these should not be deprecated. Not a fan of Fandom but the identifiers are still valid. Other databases don't affect that. Instead, you can now add ‎Weird Gloop article ID (P12473) statements. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 16:14, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
I also agree that neither the Fandom article ID (P6262) or Fandom wiki ID (P4073) values should be deprecated if the Fandom wiki is still extant. Even if the Weird Gloop wiki is an objectively better and designed to replace Fandom, that's not particularly relevant to Wikidata. Edit: another fresh example, among countless ones, with persistent random removal of information that borders vandalism. It has been like this every day in nearly all pages I edit. For a more comprehensive context: this is a problematic user in his home wiki, where I am an administrator. He was recently blocked (by me) due to copyvio. Now he stalks me in wikidata and commons, undoing my edits within minutes or hours, as some sort of revenge. I've never witnessed this level of harassment and wikihounding before in any project. In the first place, my home wiki is not the portuguese language Wikipedia. Also, if anyone sees my edit history and my edit history, will see that what you claim that this "has been like this every day in nearly all pages I edit" is plainly wrong and will see that is you that is constantly reverting my sourced edits, even in new items i create for the hopital buildings.
Second, why dont you explained the reason that you blocked me in the portuguese language Wikipedia? As the user keeps a bad-faith posture and disruptive behaviour, I should address the nonsense claim of being me removing sources. No. In fact, it is me who is using the current, properly sourced name given by the institution itself, while the above user keeps using 3rd party sources. The other claims are outlandish and the fact that he is duplicating items is actually a proof of his disruptive behaviour. The claim of being me who is reverting him is a blatant lie and nonsense, as the time stamps and history can easily prove.
Allow me to put this in context: this user has a pattern of misconduct and edit warring in his home wiki, where I am an administrator. It was recently blocked (by me) for blatant copyvio. Since them, he seems to be on some sort of revenge and now systematically wikihounds, harasses and reverts nearly all my edits in Wikidata within minutes or hours, then poses himself as the victim. All he has to do is to stop edit warring and discuss changes in the talk page. It's quite simple. But he won't, because his agenda is not to find the best solution, is to harass me out of wikidata. User:Raniapahn continuing to create junk items

I previously requested a short block of User:Raniapahn because they weren't responding to messages on their talk page. They now have but haven't changed their behavior of indiscriminately importing items from Sceneweb. They're also likely doing undisclosed paid editing as they're asking me to talk to their supervisor. Editor using Wikidata for promotional hoax plus careless errors

Katashmula, recently blocked at Commons for creating bad categories there and participating in a promotional hoax that Abdel Nasser, head of AlHakawi News and AlAgha Group, won "the" Academy Award in 2023. It seems likely this is the same person as a Rashida/LTA 243, given their shared interest in AlAgha Company. The Commons abuse report is here (dated 29 February 2024). The 330 edits here include some very careless ones, for example adding to Bruce Ashmore as a "coat of arms" a group photograph that shows not Bruce Ashmore but a journalist Harry Ashmore. Also attempting to recreate a many-times deleted item for Al-Agha Group.

Also Katashmula's userpage (created at Wikimedia 21 November 2023) copies affiliations etc. from User:Aimeabibis, including a claim to be the treasurer of LesSansPages. (Here for example you can see clear evidence that Aimeabibis is an active member of said group; कटासमुला is not even on their list of members.) HouseOfChange (talk) 03:57, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

Another collaborator in the hoax at Commons is also busily creating Wikidata links to empty Commons categories which she also created. In every case, she puts the commons link to the empty category into the wrong place, so that she is creating a massive cleanup job for others. This user also had (until it was deleted) a fraudulent Wikimedia page claiming to be "Lead Partnerships Manager, South Asia, Wikimedia Foundation," because her very first edit on January 11, 2024 was creating her Wikimedia page as a copy of User:PDas_WMF except for using her own gmail address. Hmm.
Wikidata has no username policy. While the name does end with "bot", they don't seem to be editing at bot rates. While we do have policies against unauthorized bots, we also encourage new bot authors to run small scale tests before seeking permission. We also have a policy against blocking solely for activity on other projects.

Following participation in an event, fr:User:NordyGuard found itself blocked. She was able to participate on frWP, but not on WD. There is no restriction due to its nickname (API: "result": "ok"]), so the problem comes from the locally blocked IP. I don't have the details, so I can't write more about it.   • Withdraw all these nominations not only because the properties are nominated by LTA, but primarily because they were created in clear violation. Only the property creators that are indirectly related to these properties were informed of the deletion request, and all other participants involved in the proposal discussion, including its original proposer, were simply ignored. If these properties are indeed candidates for deletion, then nominations should be made properly, not as they were done on the sly, without any pings from LTA. MediaWiki:Wikibase-SortedProperties

I also think it's worth to rollback all mass changes of this LTA on the MediaWiki:Wikibase-SortedProperties page. I'm pinging Epìdosis (to alert about this case) who approved many of his requests and apparently had no idea that these changes were requested by an LTA. By the way, he also was hiding under his other socks like GeoGQL and MrProperLawAndOrder on this page (see also [3]). I think admins should be more careful with MediaWiki:Wikibase-SortedProperties from now on and not immediately fulfill mass requests from users who might be someone's socks. If someone next time makes a mass request in a similar aggressive manner (see [4], [5], [6]), you should know that it could be Tobias Conradi (aka Tamawashi, MrProperLawAndOrder etc.). I don't know the specific's of that user's history with Wikidata, but it does seem to me that MediaWiki:Wikibase-SortedProperties would be the sort of page that should raise eyebrows when a "new" user makes edits to it. @Kirilloparma: Thanks for reporting. The edits between 6 and 28 February were mostly due to requests of CV213; some of them were effectively problematic (I didn't approve the most controversial ones), whilst others seemed just common-sense cleaning. I can rollback them all, then restore manually the uncontroversial cleaning (e.g. moving properties used only as qualifiers and/or references to the apposite sections); the rollback would delete a few updates made through User:DannyS712/SortedPropertiesUpdater.js, but it's probably not a real issue since the gadget would just readd them all at the next update; let me know if I can proceed in this way. Of course I noted down this editing pattern to be ready for future new attempts by the same LTA in that talk page. Epìdosis 10:04, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
Yes, it would be great if you could restore the previous version (before the Feb 6 changes). I would rather trust someone else to set the order than this obscure LTA, especially since the property order proposed by him is quite contradictory and to me should be considered by experienced participants and the projects they are members of (he has never even tried to coordinate the order with the projects, no pings either), not by an LTA. Hi Madamebiblio. Thanks for callout. These items were created to reference existing Google Knowledge Graph / Freebase items. The items focus primary on the fashion, design, and automotive industries, and include various companies, brands, and notable products that they have produced.

In this case, there is a distinction between the brand "Clarins" and the company "Groupe Clarins" (the manufacturer and owner of the brand and it's trademarks). Each are identified by a unique Google knowledge graph entry that was verified, and have unique URLs.
Making a brand / company distinction allows us describe the brand's distinct properties & ownership (including their primary URLs), and utilize the Brand (P1716) and manufacturer (P176) properties when describing their products.
This also allows us to use the primary domain properly, making a distinction between the corporate company website (https://www.groupeclarins.com/) and consumer brand site where the companies products are offered (https://www.clarinsusa.com/).
A combined entity would not allow us to make this distiction.
Another example of this distinction is for **Hasselblad**, a manufacturer, and brand of cameras.
These items, are described as follows.
Hasselblad | Q64545 (the Swedish company)
- Knowledge Graph Id /m/0142p3 (Photograph company)
Hasselblad | Q64676 (brand of cameras)
- Knowledge Graph Id /m/0nd78z5 (camera brand)
This allows us describe a product more accurately, making proper references to it's manufacturer (a legal entity), and it's brand.
By utilizing brands, we can also ensure that the proper name and preferred casing is used across localized labels.

Proposal for admin bot to create local accounts for users in other wikis

Background: Wikidata:Project_chat#(5000)_unconnected_television_season_articles_in_the_english_language_wikipedia_after_pages_have_been_moved and phab:T143486 I propose a bot that regularly does the following in each Wikidata client wikis:

  • Get a list of users that ever deleted or moved pages in client wiki (Special:Log/delete and Special:Log/move); other than the first run we only need users with recent move/delete actions.
  • Find users without an account in Wikidata
  • Create local Wikidata accounts for them (note this can only be performed by admins so we either need adminbot or createlocalaccount right be added to bot group)

In addition, since the above will not handle the first move action of users, we may also:

  • Automatically create Wikidata accounts for all active users in each wikis
  • Since bot can have no edits before approval, Automatically create Wikidata accounts for all users with bot flags in all wikis.

Note this proposal does not resolve all cases of sitelink update failures (e.g. rate limits, or protection of items), but it is at least better than the status quo. GZWDer (talk) 14:33, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

This user mostly works on items that have single sitelink and no statements. Unfortunately their edits are usually based on Wikipedia articles in languages that they don't understand, and hence at large they are making a mess rather than anything helpful. They commonly copy label in Kazakh, Czech, Polish or whatever language, and use it to fill in English, French, German label where instead actual terms in the latter languages need to be found. They commonly interpret single sitelink as if item was about a word in sitelink language, as opposed to a concept. They seem to have only very vague idea about what the item subject is, probably due to using machine translation. To me this is especially evident if they edit items where Wikipedia sitelink is in my language, e.g. here and here, and it seems they are not doing any better when dealing with other languages either. Additionally they have little clue about what P279 and P31 properties are for, and so in class items most often they seem to fill in P31 statement with some parent class of the class provided as P279 value, which makes no sense. Over longer period I've commented on this in user talk, in here and here, as well as in numerous edit summaries when correcting obvious errors, e.g. here or here, but there has been no response from DavidMar86hdf, and almost no improvement on their behalf. and yes there are some mistakes on my work here. also these mistakes appear in good faith. If someone beliefs, these mistakes should be corrected, that person is free to do that. Please do not get wrong, I see your remarks but what kind comment ist requested by me? I am not here to justify my work. If you are of the opinion that my work contains too many errors or is too inefficient for the project, I can deal with this opinion very well. How should I change my behavior now? and yes, if I invested a little more brainpower, one or two mistakes could be avoided. Sometimes it's not clear what the right editing could be.

I already did provide concrete advice. I would expect you to follow it or respond and say why you don't agree with particular advice. You still do neither. Most importantly, this advice was:
  1. Don't edit Wikidata items based on Wikipedia articles which are in languages that you don't understand. You might get it right based on machine translation but it seems in most cases you don't get it right, and you are only making a mess. Note that the quality of machine transaltion, or Google translation in particular, in these languages is usually very poor, or it often simply doesn't return anything meaningful, especially for languages like Kazakh, Malagasy, Basque, Sicilian etc.
  2. Don't copy label in sitelink language to fill in English/German/French label if you simply don't know actual terms in these three languages. At least in class items label in these languages should be expected to be different, and again in most cases you are making a mess if you copy labels in this manner. I provided examples above and here in you talk page.
  3. Don't use instance of (P31) together with subclass of (P279). It is fine to use only P279 in class items. It isn't necessarily wrong to use P31 in addition to P279 but you almost always use it the wrong way. I provided an example here in you talk page.
