Admin[edit]

(Sorry for the late posting. You may already know) - Hi. Your RfA has been closed and I've promoted you to administrator. Congratulations. Best regards. — MarcoAurelio (talk) 01:14, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Admin confirmation[edit]

Hello, your adminship is up for confirmation between Jan 28th and Feb 1st. Please create a section for yourself at Wikidata:Administrators/Confirm 2013/2, and see Wikidata:Administrators/Confirm 2013 for more info. Regards, Techman224Talk 05:08, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Hoo man. --Leyo 09:14, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Siehe Wikidata:Forum#MediaWiki:Sitenotice. - Hoo man (talk) 13:54, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
--Leyo 14:23, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Empty items bot[edit]

[04:49:48 PM] <hoo> legoktm: Is the bot finding empty items still running ?

No it's not because the Toolserver replag is at 6 days so it's basically useless. Legoktm (talk) 02:55, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pity... thanks for the reply though - Hoo man (talk) 11:29, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Roles for Dan Castellaneta in The Simpsons Movie[edit]

Hello Hoo man. You changed The Simpsons Movie so that there is one statement for Dan Castellaneta with two role qualifiers. I have previously had two separate statements. Can you join the discussion here: [1]

Subpages[edit]

If a subtemplate isn't a /doc page, please don't delete the item yet. Please discuss at Wikidata:Requests for comment/Interwiki links for subpages first.--GZWDer (talk) 05:28, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent actions[edit]

Why did you suddenly remove this viwiki sitelink from the item that is labeled with it?

And then suddenly I see all these items deleted:

Can't you restore them? I thought unlinked items are not necessarily eligible for deletion under our notability criteria; in fact the Notability policy says that this meets criteria #2: "refers to an instance of a clearly identifiable conceptual or material entity" and I've already discussed this with another admin. These clearly refer to conceptual entities that exist out there. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 17:24, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

These were unlinked items, without statements and sitelinks, which I deleted as general maintenance (nobody would ever do that per hand)... I know that some of them might fall under our notability criteria, but almost all of them were just unlink/deletion leftovers nobody will ever take care of. After all, I don't think that the items I've deleted had much value (most of them were duplicates or orphans). If you think that I've deleted items that had value, feel free to restore them. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 17:33, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

unlinked item[edit]

If you want to delete unlinked item automatically or semi-automatically, You'd better create an adminbot (probably named Hoo adminbot/Hoo abot). By the way, make sure not to delete any item with backlinks.--GZWDer (talk) 11:10, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

CC0 or Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0?[edit]

I see that you've created MediaWiki:Wikibase-shortcopyrightwarning which says it's CC0, but the message on Translatewiki gives Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 (example). I guess that CC0 is correct, so shouldn't it be changed on Translatewiki? --Stryn (talk) 12:30, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so as CC0 is specific to Wikidata, while the extension itself is supposed to have another default content license (probably to stay in sync with the default content license of MediaWiki). Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 02:07, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Q14972260[edit]

Hi, thanks for deleting Q14972260. I was just waiting a bit longer before going for bulk request; for the chance of finding some more merge-able items during my today run for Czech Wikipedia project: Forgotten interwikis. Have a good day --23:14, 11 February 2014 (UTC), Utar (talk)

Holger1959 (talk) 22:39, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grüße, Hoo man (talk) 00:41, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Special:AbuseFilter/57[edit]

#37 is not enough? Matěj Suchánek (talk) 15:11, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly it's not: #57 is less fussy than #37 (it only matches links from commons). Because of that it can be set to disallow edits without causing any potential collateral damage. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 21:41, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion[edit]

Dear Hoo man,

My watch list showed that you deleted Q6596547. Because Wikidata items, unlike Wikipedia pages, do not have meaningful names, I wonder what the item was about.

Best regards, Bever (talk) 03:06, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Bever: That item was about "anxiolysis", but didn't hold any Statements, nor is it linked from anywhere. It has a sitelink to de:Anxiolyse (which is a redirect). It seems to be related to anxiolytic (Q62903) but it's probably not exactly the same. I can restore it for you, if you want to expand it in a way that makes it more useful and notable. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 11:35, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Anxiolysis is anxiety reduction and anxiolytics are medicaments used for anxiety reduction. Apparently I was responsible for making this item empty by moving the Dutch language article nl:Anxiolyse (which is called after anxiolysis but has the other term in bold as well) to the other item, as the two notions are very related indeed. Perhaps according to the new policy it should be a redirect, if there is any meaningful history in the item. Bever (talk) 00:05, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Will you let me finish creating an item before deleting it?[edit]

Will you let me finish creating an item before deleting it?  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.36.122.109 (talk • contribs) at 13:57, 18 November 2015‎ (UTC).[reply]

I don't see a reason to do that, given you are creating a duplicate of an item, that has already been deleted multiple times (just this week). Please make the case why that item is notable by now. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 13:59, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I can only echo Hoo man's comments. This is just a waste of administrators' time on multiple projects. Jared Preston (talk) 17:21, 18 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Q21598749 query[edit]

thanks HI Moderators in Spanish ? help  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Juliosgt89 (talk • contribs) at 15:46, 1 December 2015‎ (UTC).[reply]

@Juliosgt89: I'm sorry, but I'm not able to help you in Spanish. Regarding the item of yours which I deleted earlier: The item itself appeared non-notable as it didn't have any useful information on it. You might want to look at Help:Items on how to create an Item. You can also ask me, if you have questions. - Hoo man (talk) 16:32, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

You deleted it. There was a commons link on it (which existed at least since 2013-05-29 10:08:48) - person dead in 2002. Could you tell me which one, please ? I need to find it (the commons item I mean) - Thanks a lot. --Hsarrazin (talk) 00:44, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Hsarrazin: That item was linked to commons:Category:Dirk Denninger and de: Dirk Denninger. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 13:53, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
thanks... it is stucked on a Recent deaths list, and I could not remove it. I can now ;)
may I ask why you did not merge it with Q15649744 instead of removing it, please ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 14:47, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hsarrazin: I didn't remove the sitelinks myself, someone else did (see the now restored history). Also that page got deleted before we had the ability to redirect items (as far as I remember), thus redirecting wasn't an option. I restored the item and redirected it now, that's better. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 15:09, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 19:48, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

PolyBot[edit]

Hi,

I answered on my own page, but forgot how to ping you. I'm looking into the problem and I'm surprised to find that the api.php has changed overnight, but this is not reflected in the docs. (https://www.wikidata.org/w/api.php?action=help&modules=login)

It's wrong here as well: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Login

So I'm stuck now.--Polyglot (talk) 18:53, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Polyglot: Given you are editing again, it seems you managed to overcome these problems already. If not and you are using pywikibot try updating that, as old versions have known token handling issues that can cause such issues. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 22:31, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I started using WDTK to overcome the login problems. Unfortunately search hadn't been implemented yet. I had implemented a bot from scratch, so pywikibot didn't cause the problem. Wrong information on API:Login did. Cheers --Polyglot (talk) 13:39, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Purge not working[edit]

Hi Hoo man, I tried using this URL to purge property talk pages:

https://www.wikidata.org/w/api.php?action=purge&titles=Module:Property_documentation&forcerecursivelinkupdate=1

It does not seem to have an effect, despite that it looks equivalent to the snippet you indicated on my talk page: there are many pages like Property_talk:P218 that display dozens of Too many Wikidata entities accessed. and keep doing so despite my attempts to "purge" (I know that purging that page manually would fix it, but you may have better ideas). Any idea why my "purge URL" fails? thanks -- LaddΩ chat ;) 13:45, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Laddo: The purges worked and are actually the cause for that problem. I've created phab:T127462 to track this. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 16:07, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Purging the page individually (not during a recursive parse that touches many pages) should work fine, though. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 16:09, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Isidore-Noel Belleau[edit]

Here you can see the baptism registry for Isidore Noel Belleau : http://postimg.org/image/4jp6nlzjt/ . And as a genealogist, I would have to say, it is the ideal source of birth registration data. I would like it if you performed the citation since I don't quite know how to do that on Wikidata. Thanks and have a pleasant day. Lincher (talk) 02:23, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Lincher: In order to use that as a source, it should be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons with more context about the scan provided. You should also cite references when changing such dates on Wikipedia, especially if the date is disputed. You may also want to let the Canadian Library of Parliament know that they got the wrong date on their page. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 09:11, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cutter -> Filmeditor[edit]

Grüße, Hoo man (talk) 10:17, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
--Pasleim (talk) 22:58, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Queryzo (talk) 09:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Änderung in Dareios-Unterwelt-Werkstatt[edit]

Grüße, Hoo man (talk) 23:01, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Grüße, Hoo man (talk) 12:09, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Grüße, Hoo man (talk) 22:10, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can you fix also Template:Purge? --ValterVB (talk) 17:33, 19 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Automatisches Artikel-Verbinden[edit]

Hallo Hoo man,

Grüße, - Hoo man (talk) 01:29, 3 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB script[edit]

We were talking about my little IMDB script the other day. It works on the patterns and checks if the label is the same. The code is on github and produces edits like this one and (these). It's fun to see how it picks up chains of episodes if you just add one link. Multichill (talk) 16:24, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nice, thanks the pointer! Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 15:31, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Multichill: This is great, maybe you can have a look at my "highscore" of series with most missing IMDb IDs. Queryzo (talk) 21:37, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I do that query every once in a while and take a series to clean up. Currently I'm at 3rd Rock from the Sun.
While we're at your talk page, this brings me to another point we talked about. One of the big tasks on Wikidata is to make the initial link between an item here and some external resource. For example me making this imdb link. The current tool of choice is mix'n'match. This tool is awesome, but has it's limitations. It's focused on 1:1 matches (Q18040330=tt0502658) and not suitable for 1:n matches (like what I'm doing with Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Image suggestions) and it's not possible to dynamically work on subsets. Take for example IMDb ID (P345). It's not in mix'n'match, we do have a whole load of "Episodes of <something> at IMDb". Having one of our more important tools developed and maintained by a single volunteer might not be the most sustainable model. Multichill (talk) 09:24, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I imported a few episode catalogs from imdb into mix'n'match (see my userpage). I used a Regex-Skript with regexr.com to get the episodes with ID and title for every season, but it is demanding to do this for every series. Queryzo (talk) 09:40, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Steuerzeichen in Labels[edit]

--Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 08:46, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Marius. Would you please change the link target of this system message to Help:Navigating_Wikidata/User_Options#Babel_extension (or the multilingual anchor equivalent of that) per later discussion on phab:T62369? Deryck Chan (talk) 14:33, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done - Hoo man (talk) 18:33, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! There's something weird with this filter. It doesn't allow me to add Soundex (P3878) to surnames that start with L. All of those Sondexes would have the value of "L\d\d\d", so the error is in line 7 with rlike '\nL\d+(-F\d+)?\nl (my emphasis). It seems that rlike isn't just for exact matches, but also for partial matches. Not sure what to use instead, though. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 00:03, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jon Harald Søby: Ugh, this is indeed a false-positive filter match. I hope Special:AbuseFilter/history/102/diff/prev/949 fixes this. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 13:13, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that seems to have fixed it. Thank you! Jon Harald Søby (talk) 20:25, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, can you update Wikidata:True duplicates? Maybe you can use the {{Q}} to make it easier to work with? Multichill (talk) 12:36, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment[edit]

Dear Hoo man,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link

I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa

In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Hoo Bot[edit]

Hi Hoo Man, The last edits of your bot Hoo Bot date from October 12th, 2016. I would propose to remove its bot flag due to inactivity. Do you oppose to that? Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 07:30, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Lymantria: No, I don't plan to use that account anytime soon, please go ahead. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 19:47, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, done. --Lymantria (talk) 21:04, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Revive an item[edit]

I request the revival of Q9587031. It was merged to Q15366910 for being deemed synomynous. They are actually different entities. The former category contains performers of "Taiwanese opera", a genre of traditional theatre. The latter category is for opera singers of Taiwanese origin. Hello @Hoo man, can you hear me? Seanetienne (talk) 05:12, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see, you are no longer an admin. I shall ask someone else, cheers. Seanetienne (talk) 05:14, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
