Labels mit wie in Q144707 oder Q145174 sind nicht gerade für Wikidata geeignet. Das sollten wir imo besser den Menschen überlassen. Fälle wie Q138405 und Q140139 können auch verwirren. Merlissimo (talk) 09:45, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

About DotNetDataBot

Can you post an example for add a description to a Item starting from a page on wikipedia? Thanks --ValterVB (talk) 09:47, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

I don't understand what you exactly mean. At the moment my bot does not create descriptions at all. DotNetDataBot is only a framework for editing Wikidata, no complete program. If you want to know how my bot imports links and labels, I can post some code. --Bene* (talk) 22:01, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, but now I solved, I needed an example like here for add description to an item, but now I found it. Thanks for DotNetDataBot --ValterVB (talk) 22:14, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Ok, I understand. You're welcome ;-) --Bene* (talk) 08:21, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Your bot added Q303430 with the English label "Fiat 6614#Type 6616" on December 2. Has this bug since been fixed? --Yair rand (talk) 14:06, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

I have updated the bot and thus it should be fixed now. --Bene* (talk) 22:18, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

video games - operating system

Hi Bene,
could you please pause adding this item to video games? I would like to start a discussion of the use of this property and of the property "platform". I think that we should define first how they should be used. Thank you. --#Reaper (talk) 21:03, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

Hmm, I think there is a consensus at Wikidata:Video games task force and at en:Category:Windows games it says "operating system", too. Regards, -- Bene* talk 21:17, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi, hmm.. I've started the discussion on the task force talk page. And one "bug" of your bot: Q813266 It shouldn't add again a property which has been deleted. ;) (Problem here: A series has no OS or similar. ;) ) Best regards, --#Reaper (talk) 22:39, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

What happened here?

The bot went haywire and added 6 claims for the genre property. :3 --Izno (talk) 17:36, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

I have blocked the bot until the above can be fixed. It is making hundreds of edits of this sort. --Izno (talk) 17:47, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for blocking, I do not really understand this bug. Would you like to unblock the bot because I've stopped the script. Now I will fix the disturbed items by the bot. Thanks again, -- Bene* talk 18:12, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
I'll do that. Thanks for offering to clean up. --Izno (talk) 18:14, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
I see you've started the script again. Did you get the bug fixed? --Izno (talk) 20:02, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Yes, while running through the items it is checking for duplicates now and removes them. -- Bene* talk 20:38, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
I hope only exact duplicates because qualifiers make claims unique which would otherwise be duplicate. --Izno (talk) 21:08, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Of course only exact duplicates ;-) -- Bene* talk 21:32, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

According to this: Maybe its not the best way to simply use the categories as source: strange edits ;) --#Reaper (talk) 20:09, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

I will try to fix it, but there shouldn't be much edits of this sort. -- Bene* talk 20:38, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Side request: Would it be possible to get the bot not to edit war with me :)? I realize that might be outside the scope of the current script, so it's really more of a future feature request I guess. --Izno (talk) 21:08, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Well, I can try to teach the bot that it should look if it was reverted before but I am not sure if it will work properly... -- Bene* talk 21:32, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
It would be easier if you only save if your bot has already worked on this item (and property). It would be nice if this could be "fixed" in the next days, before I forget which items has to be changed, because I have also started an edit war with your bot. ;) --#Reaper (talk) 21:37, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Would you like it if you could use a specific key word in the summary and when added this the bot won't edit this item any more? Just a thought... -- Bene* talk 22:04, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, maybe the bot could keep a log of items which it edits and properties which it adds to, and then check that? More thoughts. :) --Izno (talk) 01:03, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
I think saving the items would be better, a key word has to be known by everybody, that wouldn't work very well. Note: You should also save the value which has been set, because there will be sometimes more than one per property and could change in future. (I'd also save the timestamp.) And one which could maybe useful, too: Write a log file where conflicts have been, so it could (but don't have to ;) ) be used by others. (Just a suggestion if the speed of the algorithm will be to slow: split the file up into 9 files using the first digit of the item. ;) ) Greets, --#Reaper (talk) 17:37, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
Or you could force the script to run over each item only once per whatever category/infobox field you're running through. I suppose that's what the idea of a log gets to, but without the log. You would still need to keep track of what elements you had done, but not necessarily via a log. --Izno (talk) 18:54, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
It is stopping after one run now. -- Bene* talk 14:46, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

A new bot list

Hi there! Per a request I have been working on a new informative bot list (that has secretly been hidden under the current list at Wikidata:List_of_bots. I think I am finished and it would be great if every botop (including you) could add your bot to the new list. I have added Addbot already and tried to make the template simple! Deletion marking

I don't really speak bot, so forgive me if this isn't possible, but when marking requests as "done" on RFD, is there any chance the bot could include in the edit summary how many, or even if there are any unactioned deletion requests? Thanks. Courcelles (talk) 20:17, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Benebot skip

Hey, I regularly delete items on WD:RfD but Benebot never seems to mark any of my deletions as "done". It does for some admins but not others. How do I get it to also mark the ones I have deleted? It would save me a lot of time. Thanks! Delsion23 (talk) 12:21, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Roland Garros 2013

You created an entry for the Dutch article for Roland Garros 2013, but it already existed (or at least now it exists) with another Q-number for :de :en :fr and a few more. I have no idea how to fix this, but to me it seems strange to create a WikiData-entry when there is only one language available (but maybe I'm wrong, no idea). Hopefully this is a one time issue? Yes, it does. It's a fundamental task, we couldn't wait for you :P --Ricordisamoa 14:33, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

wrong, again. --Ricordisamoa 14:35, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

@Ricordisamoa: I'd rather say your bot was only approved for this task until BeneBot* is back, as its absence was the only reason for your bot approval. Vogone talk 15:17, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
@Vogone: I don't think so. My (and Legoktm's) code has several advantages:
  • it detects edit conflicts, and does not forces page saving (as BeneBot* does)
  • when only one request has to be marked, it shows the section header in the edit summary (example)
  • most importantly: it is capable of detecting when the other item was deleted, instead of the nominated one (example).
--Ricordisamoa 15:29, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Anyway, I don't want to spend time on bot-edit-warring. --Ricordisamoa 15:29, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Even if your bot has some advantages, you have still no right to override BeneBot*'s approval. I recommend you to stop your bot or to open a new discussion in which you are explicitly asking for a deapproval of BeneBot*. This is not a way in which bot operators should behave, I'm sorry. Vogone talk 16:49, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
I don't want to request BeneBot*'s deapproval, but it's making more and more mistakes... --Ricordisamoa 16:51, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

I think it was made apparent by Benebot*'s Wikibreak that it is important to have back-up in place in case a bot operator takes time off for things in real life. I hope this can be sorted out cordially. Both Bene* and Ricordisamoa are talented bot operators. Perhaps both bots could use this new advanced code developed by Ricordi and Lego, so that less mistakes are made. And Benebot* can get back to marking deleted items, and if a break is ever needed, Bene* can make it known, so that another bot can come in and take up the task? Delsion23 (talk) 19:37, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

I would support that, but don't know if Bene* could easily set up his bot with Python. --Ricordisamoa 20:38, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Automobile manufacturers

Hi, your bot created a fair number of term (Q1969448) items that are brand (Q431289) with industry (P452)=automotive industry (Q190117). All of these end up reported as constraint violations in Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P452 since "industry" should apply only to "organizations" - most such brands are actually car manuturing companies, and all companies are to receive type=organization. Moreover, many of these brands were actually persons, like Engelbert Zaschka (Q62498) or Fritz Fend (Q101162). I started correcting these manually, but it would take me forever since there seems to be many hundreds; I was wondering if your bot could be used for:

  1. wherever it added a second GND type "term" to an existing item, remove "term"
  2. make all other items that were created in this batch : GND type="organization" instead of "term"
  3. you can also set instance of (P31)=automobile manufacturer (Q786820) for these last ones

I believe it would be beneficial, in the future, to prevent the bot from assigning a second GND type when the item already has a value for that property.

Thanks - LaddΩ chat ;) 03:03, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your tip. I will fix the mistakes of my bot as soon as possible. Regards, -- Bene* talk 18:17, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
Impressive cleanup!! Thanks a lot for the quick fixes. The report was not yet updated, but I did many spot-checks and most seem fine now. I did noticed that some items remained unchanged, not sure why, such as Chiltern (Q1073034) and City & Suburban (Q1093823). You might wish to have a second look. The link on enwiki was wrong. -- Bene* talk 06:06, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Double-check death dates

Hi. Would it be possible to double-check the death dates that you extract from en:Lists of deaths by year in the articles themselves? E.g. you added a death date to Joseph Delaney (Q2481988). The link in that list however is going to the wrong person, and the one desribed in en:Joseph Delaney is still living and the date that you gave is not to be found in the article anywhere (the year is once, in a publication). So it would be better and, so I guess, not that much more complicated, to look in the list, extract the death date, look in the article, check if that death date is present (possibly in at least one of these places: introduction, infobox, person data) and only add the date then. Thanks for considering. --YMS (talk) 13:52, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

This is possible but also not that trivial to implement. Thus I will think about it but I'm not sure if I have enough time to do it. -- Bene* talk 06:04, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Why? --ValterVB (talk) 22:21, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
