Popular "items" as "properties"[edit]

Wikidata:Database reports/Popular properties lists "sex".

This new report would list how many times "female" or "male" etc, are listed. -- --  Docu  at 12:03, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, I can do that kind of. I can tell you how many times "male" or "female" are used as an item of a claim, but not in any specific context as to which property they're being used in. Would that still be useful? Legoktm (talk) 14:38, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think Special:MostLinkedPages would be sufficient (if it wasn't outdated), but maybe a report with the top items per property would be nice too.
Eventually, I suppose query namespace will do so of it for us .. I suppose. -- --  Docu  at 20:05, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As a note, Wikidata:Database reports/Popular items was created after a request for it. Legoktm (talk) 14:33, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks. Looks a bit like a list of properties I added yesterday ;) --  Docu  at 19:50, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

popular items without (en-)label[edit]

disambiguous items[edit]

for the most frequent languages: list of items that have a link/label for the language but not for en. --Akkakk (talk) 12:22, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is a special page for that at Special:EntitiesWithoutLabel. It's even up-to-date. -- --  Docu  at 12:38, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
there it's not possible to see if the page has an de/fr/es-label/link --Akkakk (talk) 13:09, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I believe this would be more useful as a toolserver tool (which I will write soon) so a user can input "has: en, fr, de" and "needs: it". Legoktm (talk) 14:36, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

redirected items[edit]

items that are connected to redirects. --Akkakk (talk) 14:57, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have the query ready for this, just need to format it into a formal report. Legoktm (talk) 02:26, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

inconsistent items, disambiguations[edit]

items in which some connected wikipedia pages are disambiguation pages and some are not --Akkakk (talk) 15:01, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

+1. Helder 20:39, 7 March 2013 (UTC)
Hmmm, I can kinda do this. Since databases are split on multiple servers (see [1] and look for "s#.dblist"), I can only check when both wikis are on the same server. So I could compare pages on say nlwiki vs nowiki because both are on s2, but I can't compare enwiki vs anything. Legoktm (talk) 04:42, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
what's with the toolserver? aren't there all dbs? --Akkakk (talk) 09:13, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes they all have databases, but they are split up onto different servers to balance the load, and I can only run queries across databases that are on the same server. Legoktm (talk) 09:15, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Validation of string values[edit]

Many string values have a predefined format: e.g. for Property:P212 (ISBN), see w:ISBN. Exceptions exist: it happens that values exist in the real world, but aren't formatted correctly (see ISBN#Errors in usage).

According to Project chat#Phase 1 live on all.., such validation wouldn't be added to the MediaWiki code, but could be done through a database report.

Thus this proposal:

  • for each string value, create a page with the validation rules and known exceptions ("errors in usage").
  • generate regular reports of items with values that fail these rules

The report can be reviewed and values either fixed on the items or moved to the list of known exceptions. -- --  Docu  at 20:33, 7 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This will need to be done using a database dump, however it's already on my list of things to do. Legoktm (talk) 04:44, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really believe in checks that rely on database dumps. These tend to disappear for months.
In this case, it would probably be preferable to built it into the MediaWiki code. It could easily evaluate items based on a regex that is defined somewhere and test it against an exclusion list. --  Docu  at 05:35, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Split missing links report by namespace[edit]

Moved from User talk:Legoktm#Split missing links report by namespace.

Hi!

While looking at Wikidata:Database reports/Missing links/ptwiki I noticed there are many pages which are not from content namespaces. Would it be possible to split the table according to the namespace of the target pages? In particular, it would be useful to get a list of articles without links to a given wiki. Helder 23:39, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Probably. It would add some more complexity to the report, but can still be done. Legoktm (talk) 04:49, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

items with links to non existing pages[edit]

items which links to pages that have been deleted --Akkakk (talk) 01:14, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

+1. I was just looking for this report too. --Kolja21 (talk) 04:15, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A small report[edit]

Until we have built-in queries, I'd would be interested to have a short report (e.g. "burial locations") with:

  • items that are listed in other items as Property:P119, for each item, list:
    • the item's label
    • if there is Property:P31 on the item: its value; if not, but if there is Property:P168 on the item, its value.
    • if there is Property:P131 on the item: the corresponding administrative unit
    • if there is Property:P17 on the item: the corresponding country
    • for each item that use the item in Property:P119: that item's title

Sample (with just one item):

Burial locationTypeLocationCountryPerson
Inglewood Park CemeterycemeteryInglewoodUnited States of AmericaElla Fitzgerald

Would you set this up? --  Docu  at 20:29, 19 March 2013 (UTC), updated 20:34, 19 March 2013 (UTC), edited 06:23, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Small" eh? :P Wikidata:Dump reports/Burial locations. There are some issues with encoding, and it seems that it couldn't figure out the person's name at all. Legoktm (talk) 06:37, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great .. thanks a lot.
I'll try to complete the missing countries/locations/types (P168 or P31).
Too bad about the names. Not all persons already have labels defined for English yet. For names already in Roman letters, I could fill them fairly easily. Would be nice if future versions could include them. --  Docu  at 18:26, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
re names: Once there is a look-up function for labels of items, maybe this is done directly by MediaWiki.
BTW it took quite some time to complete all missing items. I had thought items would be more complete than they actually were.
I found one item that doesn't appear on the list, despite being used frequently Special:WhatLinksHere/Q1717939. --  Docu  at 11:12, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Check that property values have the right properties themselves[edit]

Idea: Check that the right type of items are used as values for properties. For example for Property:P131 (is in the administrative unit) you could check if the values have Property:P132 (type of administrative division ), and thus really are administrative units. I imagine that you could have editable table which list properties that should checked and the possible properties of their values. Byrial (talk) 08:52, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Page on Wikipedia with interlink[edit]

Is possible to have a list of pages on mainspace in it.wikipedia with interlink? --ValterVB (talk) 09:53, 30 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but such a report would be rather long...what are you trying to do with a list like that? Legoktm (talk) 11:36, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but I missing your answer. The list is useful for delete interlink, naturally only in ns0. I don't think that are so long. However now there is this --ValterVB (talk) 20:22, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, did you mean pages with locally inserted language links? I suppose you would have to download a database dump and find the links in the article texts to make such a list. But why bother as long as the bots actively work on migrating them hereto? Byrial (talk) 05:11, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wikidata migration/Sitelink removal/Progress shows how many pages there are (currently it.wikipedia: 30,239). It's probably not limited to main namespace. --  Docu  at 05:21, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Byrial: That's exactly what my script does. The point of theses lists are to tell the bots where to go :) Legoktm (talk) 05:33, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Of course :) – But it would be nice to have a list of the links that could not be migrated for some reason (links to section, conflicts or whatever) for manually inspection. Byrial (talk) 06:06, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To some extent User:JAnDbot/interwiki conflicts might do that. --  Docu  at 06:14, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
addbot is listing conflicting pages too: Interwiki remains... --Akkakk (talk) 12:31, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Items with links to (Special/Mediawiki/User) (and talk pages)[edit]

Would be great to have a list similar to Items with links to userpages but that includes all namespaces that shouldn't be on wikidata. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 17:10, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This shouldn't be too hard, just need to change the namespace number here and tweak the page it reports to. Legoktm (talk) 06:08, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Items with Template links and a "/" in them[edit]

Would be nice to get a report of subtemplates, which should be removed per WD:N. --Izno (talk) 01:54, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well it's a very very very long list. From enwiki alone, I got 55589 (as of a week ago) items, of which I've deleted about half. I'll try and generate a list later this week. Legoktm (talk) 02:12, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You can truncate it if you want to. Maybe just restrict it to the first 1000 items? Would help segregate it into chunks of false positives and true positives, because there are going to be some false positives in the bunch. --Izno (talk) 02:39, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More report ideas[edit]

There are some more reports that could come quite handy, I presume. Or is any of them already existing in some form?

  1. Items linking to themselves as statements (might happen e.g. for artist property of self-named albums or for towns located in administrative divisions with the same name)
  2. Items having aliases but no label for a certain language (might happen e.g. after an incorrect sitelink has been removed from an item with labels blanked)
  3. Items having the same label in different languages but not sharing a sitelink for the same language (taken from Wikidata talk:Tools#Find items to merge, see there for possible restrictions)

--YMS (talk) 11:00, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, saw that. Of course that's simpler and will produce far less false positives. So that's a great tool that will find a lot to merge. It will, however, not find those hundreds of thousands or millions of articles that are not linked with any major database, e.g. most biographies in most Wikipedias. The original proposal already a combination of both measures. I think that could give a powerful tool some time: Two items have the same label, but a different ID on an external database -> they are most likely not the same, but it could be worth a check maybe. Two items have the same name, both are persons of the same nationality and the same birth date (some time...) -> they are most likely duplicates. --YMS (talk) 11:43, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, fantastic! Thanks a lot. --YMS (talk) 12:28, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Two more, more on the cosmetic side:

4. Descriptions containing wiki syntax (especially links)
5. Aliases containing brackets (similar to what e.g. Wikidata:Labels and descriptions task force/de already lists for labels, though this list is not updated currently) - may result in a lot of false positives, but very often this just are Wikipedia redirects struggeling for a unique lemma.

--YMS (talk) 12:28, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • #2: I made the list, but will not post it as it contains 161,857 aliases in 80,731 items and 90,109 item+language pairs. I looked at some of the items, and they were created by User:Sk!dbot with aliases, apparently taken from redirect page titles or article page titles, but with no label or description. Byrial (talk) 13:15, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More property conflicts[edit]

Two more report ideas:

  1. Item GND type is not "person" though it bears "instance of" "person" (P107 not Q215627 while P31 is Q215627)
  2. Two items linked by a "subclass" relationship having conflicting GND types (different P107 despite P279 link) [please ignore all those where P107 is not set -- maybe one day "property inheritance" will take care of that ;) ] Actually such a report belongs under Wikidata:Database reports/Property inheritance, I guess.
Laddo (talk) 00:34, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
1) The list only contained Q5431051 which I have corrected,
2) Items which are a subclass, but not of same type as the superclass. Byrial (talk) 11:02, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For (1) I'm surprised, though I more often met the case where there was no GND type at all, despite P31 being set. However I love the 2nd report !! Thanks a lot -- Laddo (talk) 22:08, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Items "linked" to Wikispecies[edit]

This RFC should define a method to "link" Wikispecies pages from items. IMHO, "taxon name (P225)" fits enough for now.

It would be useful if someone could generate a database report showing, at least, how many items use "taxon name (P225)", and for how many of them "taxon name (P225)" is actually an existing Wikispecies page. --Ricordisamoa 00:53, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In the 2013-05-05 database dump of Wikidata, the property taxon name (P225) is used in 60,347 claims (this can also be seen in my property statistics page). In 26.307 cases the specified taxon name was found as a page title (including redirect and disambiguation pages) in namespace 0 in the 2013-05-08 database dump of Wikispecies. In 34.040 cases the specified taxon name was not found in Wikispecies. Byrial (talk) 13:52, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! I'll try to create a chart soon. Regards, Ricordisamoa 14:55, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting might be to know what parts of Wikispecies are still missing here. --  Docu  at 08:18, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Items linking to disambiguations (items with P:P107 q11651459)[edit]

Wikidata on toolserver (replag?)[edit]

To avoid having to explain it elsewhere, I added a section about sources to this page. I tried to figure out a measure of lag for toolserver and add it there. The documentation linked now states it runs on s5. That server seems to have hardly any replag this morning. When using http://toolserver.org/~magnus/ts2/php/wd_query.php data seems old though. --  Docu  at 09:21, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Terminator 2[edit]

Hi,

On my wish list: a report like Terminator, but listing the items most used as property value, and missing their Label (and/or Description) in a given language.

Solving these is more useful than adding labels in increasing order of numbering.

Missing values in Property_talk:P878[edit]

Someone has applied the {{Constraint:One of}} template at Property talk:P878 though not added the values. Not sure where else to address this question and if someone knows which values are meant to be there it would be great if they could be added.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:36, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

add translation status indications[edit]

Hi! Please see Wikidata talk:Database reports/Constraint violations/All properties where ay ?uselang=eo is used or klick on https://www.wikidata.org/?curid=16808562#&uselang=eo .
At that (and at dimilar reports) one couls add a column with values Y or N about the translation status for the listed properties. Then it should be possible to sort the column. Thanks! @לערי_ריינהארט

Incorrect interwiki link appearing on Welsh (cy) Wikipedia despite Wikidata records saying otherwise[edit]

Not sure if I'm reporting this in the right place, but on the Welsh Wikipedia the article cy:Ceredigion (etholaeth seneddol) has three interwiki links (to Arabic, English and Chinese). The Arabic and Chinese links are OK, but the English one links to en:Template:Election box candidate with party link. When I click on the 'Edit links' button on the left, Wikidata says tha its linking to the correct article . This is a problem on a lot/all UK Parliament constituency articles on the Welsh (cy) wikipedia . --Rhyswynne (talk) 09:22, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is because cy:Nodyn:Bocs ymgeisydd etholiad gyda dolen plaid contains a local interwiki link to en:Template:Election box candidate with party link, which gets transcluded to all articles that use that template, as its not in a noinclude section. Probably it should just be removed anyway, as this interwiki link connection already is in Q10985385. --YMS (talk) 09:38, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Removed it, didn't seem to break anything, fixed the article you mentioned. --YMS (talk) 09:40, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Report request: items with language names as label/description/alias[edit]

For some reason (probably for different reasons: different UI misunderstandings, translation requests), it's extremly common for inexperienced Wikidata users to add language names as descriptions of items, and less often as aliasses or labels. We do have abuse filters in place for these cases (Special:AbuseFilter/8, Special:AbuseFilter/26 and Special:AbuseFilter/27), but for some reason they only catch a tiny fraction of those edits (the description filter caught one single edit this year so far, you can easily compare this with the list of unpatrolled recent changes anytime). Even if they would work in a reliable way, we most likely still would miss many of those edits, simply because of their sheer number (compare e.g. the working abuse filter new editor removing sitelink with the edits of User:LinkRecoveryBot and Ivan's new list of edits that bot still did miss). So a periodically published report would be great that lists all items that have only a language name as their description, label or alias. It should be enough to check the English labels, description and aliasses, as English is the default UI language and therefore it's rare that someone enters such a language name for any other language. A regex can be taken from the abuse filters I linked, though it would be good if it could be extended slightly to also catch some basic forms like "en francais" or "<title> en francais" instead of only "francais" (for sure it should not catch something like "French actor", while finding "acteur francais" as an English description also would be okay, as it's an error, too, just not the one I'm originally looking for). Thanks for considering. --YMS (talk) 12:29, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just checked those again more systematically (using the search set to huge result pages sizes and uselang=en and then the browser's search to search for ": <language>" in them). I still think that the report I requested would help a lot here, especially as my method roughly only works or non-English language names (I can't search for "French" this way, as the result would show thousands of legit French somethings), though I now think this might even be a good task for a bot.
Therefore I still request a report that lists all items having their English label or description or alias
"(in|en )?(French|français|francais|...)( language)?"
This should get 99 % of all those insertions (the rest are typos, "Frnch", combinations of languages and titles, "XYZ in French", or translation requests, "translate to French", "traduire en français", and may be hard to get completely using an algorithm), and virtually no false positives ("French" or "in French" or "français" or whatever, they all don't qualify for an English description in any case, though some are valid labels in some cases - if they are too much, the report could ignore labels completely).
The report could also list items which have "enter label" as a label or "enter description" as a description, and possibly the same description as the label, but that would be a bonus. --YMS (talk) 15:11, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Most look like instanceOf or subClassOf statements. If these would be used instead of description, then a translation would be there already. Andrea Shan (talk) 10:38, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lua[edit]

There are some interesting struff here, but this is rather messy and not very sexy. What about trying making reports in Lua table, so that they can be manipulated and formatted more easily I just made a small test at Module:StatTables/Popular items / Wikidata:Database reports/Popular items/Test. --Zolo (talk) 17:36, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Items with sitelinks, but no statements and no links from other items[edit]

Is there a report for these? It might be worth focusing on these and trying to get at least a P:P31 statement on these. --- Jura 08:49, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the report needs some more thought. According to http://tools.wmflabs.org/wikidata-todo/stats.php there are 3,727,770 items with zero statements (22.70% of all). --- Jura 08:54, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Report for WikiTreeID P2949[edit]

Would be nice to have a report for P2949 Humans_with_missing_claims/P2949 --- Salgo60 (talk) 05:47, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You'd have to add it to Wikidata:Database reports/Humans with missing claims/input.

Getting constraint violations updated?[edit]

To where or to whom do we best turn to get reviews and updates to the constraint violations. I wish for contributed to creative work (P3919) to be updated as it is not sufficient, though not fully conversant with that componentry to update. I have left (naïve) comment on the properties talk page, though presumably there is a better place to take such conversation. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:19, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed that constraint, the value needs to an instance of a type of work, not the type itself. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 07:48, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ERROR: Unknown constraint type: Q21510863.[edit]

Page Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P4241 displays "ERROR: Unknown constraint type: Q21510863. " used as qualifier constraint (Q21510863) is a proper constraint, so how should we fix that ? --Jarekt (talk) 12:53, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It happens also in P31 and P910, maybe in others too ... --Epìdosis 13:07, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivan A. Krestinin: I try to compile a (partial) list:

  • "ERROR: Unknown constraint type: Q21510863" - P18; P31; P910; P4241 and at least 200 others (from here back; the problem started on 4 June)
  • "ERROR: Unknown relation: Q30208840" - P144; P400; P1001
  • "ERROR: Unknown constraint type: Q52060874" - P297
  • "ERROR: One of constraint is not applicable for external-id type properties" - P1556

Hundreds of constraint reports are involved. --Epìdosis 13:18, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, the list of all errors can be found at Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/Errors. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 15:44, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Complex constraint violations[edit]

Usage of P31[edit]

The P31 is one of the top-5 used properties. It would be very useful to see how it's being used. For example, is it more often used in connection with people or animals, or more about chemical substances, or theoretical entities? Such stats could greatly help to adjust the property's description and usage manual. Nikolay Komarov (talk) 10:34, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
