BBLD - ID removal and crosswiki external link removal

There is BBLD_ID_Property_properties. It cannot be solved via chat, since Jura1 terrorises users of P2580 for almost a year. [1]

P2580 is used for external links in several Wikipedias, and the topic "how to proceed" with the IDs is discussed and in June a user posting explicit support for moving forward and follow the proposal of Magnus [2], but Jura1 just added

and this caused a bot run which broke hundreds of these links in dewiki, ruwiki, lvwiki, frwiki

It is the sole choice of BBLD when to deprecate an ID. VIAF also depricates IDs. And it is the choice of BBLD what format the ID has, only that it is based on ISNI for some, does not mean it is equivalent to the current canonical ISNI nor any current ISNI for a person, since

• ISNI assignments sometimes change [e.g. wrong person B mixed in person A, then later person A split out - this is rare, but did happen with some German king].
• the ISNI based BBLD IDs are not guaranteed to be correct at all

GBIF now using Wikidata

Hi @Pigsonthewing: You may have already noticed, but GBIF is using Wikidata to source some links to other botanical sites. See, e.g. GBIF:Acacia burkittii, where right at the very bottom you see the wikidata data links we asked for and which were populated on Wikidata via mix n match... (This user is very pleased). Dear Andy, Mary Violette Seeman (Q65932963) has authored many papers/books etc, quite a number of which have Q items. e.g., (Q39263392). This all looks very useful, but I am struggling to find a use for it (either as a SPARQL query) or within a wikipedia article. I was hoping you might speak to how the information about articles is envisaged to be used and give an example (or point me to something illustrating the use...) Thanks, as always. Bulk Loading of Entity URI with Mix'n'match

Hi Andy, This is in reference to my earlier query in the project chat (Wikidata:Project chat#Bulk Loading of Entity URI). I'm encountering some technical errors when I tried to upload our sample data to Mix'n'match for matching with Wikidata (see NLB Name Authorities https://tools.wmflabs.org/mix-n-match/#/catalog/2758). The values are not displaying properly, the URIs to our name authority page are not generated correctly in the Excel list and fail to match with Wikidata items. Attached are screenshots of the errors and the text file that is uploaded. Can you help us take a look what is causing the errors? How can we re-upload the file? Thank you. Structured Data - computer-aided tagging

The development team is starting work on one of the last planned features for SDC v1.0, a lightweight tool to suggest depicts tags for images. I've published a project page for it, please have a look. I plan to share this page with everyone on Commons much more broadly in the coming days. The tool has been carefully designed to try to not increase any workload on Commons volunteers; for starters, it will be opt-in for auto-confirmed users only and will not generate any sort of backlog here on Commons. Additionally, the tool is highly privacy-minded for the contributors and publicly-minded for the third party being used, in this case Google. The implementation and usage notes contain more information about these and other potential concerns as a starting place. It's really important that the tool is implemented properly from the start, so feedback is welcome. Questions, comments, concerns are welcome on the talk page and I will get answers as quickly as possible as things come up. • Structured Data on Commons - A Blog Series, written by me, is a five-part posting that covers the basics of the software and features that were built to make structured data happen. The series is meant to be friendly to those who may have some knowledge of Commons, but may not know much about the structured data project.

Edvard Munch correspondance

Good evening! I came across a webpage from the Edvard Munch museum listing all persons who have had letter correspondance with Edvard Munch (Q41406) and where the letters are filed, translated and published on the web by the Munch Museum (Q844926) https://www.emunch.no/english.xhtml. I have now made a draft for a proposal of an external ID. But before starting the prosess, are you able to have a look at the proposal? Do yuo think it will be to detailed for Wikidata? WikiCite data quality

Hi Andy,

The slides I presented this afternoon are now on Commons: WikidataCon 2019 - WikiCite panel - Data Quality.pdf.

A couple of particularly relevant queries are items with a DOI (via Linked Data Fragments): https://query.wikidata.org/bigdata/ldf?subject=&predicate=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wikidata.org%2Fprop%2Fdirect%2FP356&object= and count of items with only P31:Q5 and P496 statements: https://w.wiki/AYu.

I suspect it will be obvious that the wikibase:statements predicate is key to limiting the results to items with only two statements but I'll be in the Alte Pumpe later if you want to discuss.

Wikicommons and Wikidata

Hi. I saw your tweet today and although I have done a bit of Wikishootme during the lockdown here, and then adding some of those Commons images to Wikidata, I wasn't sure what to do with these images of a WWII anti-aircraft predictor - an early analogue computer. Maybe we could collaborate on a Wikidata item or add them to articles? I saw it on an old and abandoned quarantine station in Wellington harbour. (See here for a little context.)

"Arolsen ID" (P7656)

please have a look here https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/en/help/. There it is stated "Each document in the Arolsen Archives has a unique identification number, known as the Doc-ID. When you open the document, you will find the number at the bottom right. Please quote this number if you have any questions about a specific document." The URL does not have the same systematic for all kinds of documents. Conflict of interest: I'm working at the archive.

I am new to Wikidata community so I don't know how to add the information in the correct way. That's why I'm writing to you. I hope this is okay.

@Rhinegirl: Arolsen ID (P7656) is for an "identifier for an Holocaust victim on the Arolsen Archives' website", not for individual documents (for that reason, I have reverted your change to the property description). For example, https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/en/search/people/78006302 Please let me know if you need further help, and if so give a specific example of what you're trying to do. Hi Andy, the URL syntax you created works only for some records. For example it works not for lists (https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/en/archive/1-1-6-1_8054500/?p=1&doc_id=9892089) or records without indexed names (https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/en/archive/1-1-6-7/?p=1&doc_id=10641647). The syntax contains the number of the collection f.ex. 1.1.6.1, if available the signature of a subpart f.ex. 8054500 and the last part is always the DocID.

At Arolsen Archives there is no such thing as a "victim's ID". Therefore the property's description "identifier for an Holocaust victim" is wrong. A victim can appear on more than one document and every time the ID will be different. As the cited webpage says the ID refers to the document. Additional you can have a look at video 4 of this tutorial serie here: https://arolsen-archives.org/en/search-explore/services-researchers/ousarchiv-video-tutorial/ Specially the sequence 3:13-3:27.

@Rhinegirl: This is the intended behaviour; the two URLs you give are - as you say - each identifying a document, not a person. In the URL in my example, the number "78006302" is (at least for our purposes) identifying the person described at https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/en/search/people/78006302 It's just a short-hand way of saying "the URL for the page about this person is "https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/en/search/people/" followed by "78006302". I'm sorry but I'm totally lost. Wikidata claims does not need consensus; in the contrary, Wikidata is made to store also dissensus. And this claim has a reference. If you have a better coordinates, feel free to add it but I really don't see why you want to remove this one… Could you give some explanation to enlighten me? Did I miss a discussion saying that Wikidata shouldn't store the location of languages? I genuinely felt obvious to me that language have location, I didn't even imagine this could be a problem (I thought you wanted other coordinates…).

PS: yes all languages may be used everywhere on the planet but there is almost always a trivial and obvious choice which can backed by references.

Did you ever use the Global Plants information on JSTOR? I'm working on James Alexander Brewer now, for instance, and I find valuable information stored at: this page. I have been in that database before. Would it not be a good idea to create a property for this in Wikidata? I really don't know how it works, but you've done that before with Property:P3827. Hello, I know, I created it. But you don't explain your change. A value can sit alongside its external-id equivalent. It is an insurance and I put it as a constraint in this perspective. Your modification does not seem to have any motivation. There's a bug in MassMessage/Job queue that causes this to happen and it seems to be random when and where the message duplicates. Engineers have been trying to fix it for five years, but this is the first time I've ever seen three copies delivered. I'll mention it in the task as the cause is still actively being investigated. @Trade: On en.Wikipedia, en:Voice activation redirects to en:Voice user interface, so voice user interface (Q2350070); for the latter universities in the United Kingdom (Q918342). Incorrect dates for republished articles

Hi Andy, I have been doing a bit of author disambiguation on some naturalists and am somewhat distressed that the republished articles from Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London are dated in wikidata with the date of republication and not the date of publication, (as well as pointing to them via DOIs to a paywalled article). You can see the problem in William John Dakin for whom I inserted a scholia template. Three of his articles (all associated with Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London have incorrect dates (and this also happened for Arthur Dendy, but I have corrected the dates for his articles.) Hi @pigsonthewing:. In Gintaras Kantvilas I have used the {{cite Q}} template extensively. As you can see

1. there is no enwiki article for the journal Lichenologist, and
2. {{Cite Q|Q55891827}} produces P.M. McCarthy; G. Kantvilas; J. A. Elix (July 2001). "Amphorothecium, a new pyrenocarpous lichen genus from New South Wales, Australia". The Lichenologist. 33 (04): 291–296. doi:10.1006/LICH.2001.0330. ISSN 0024-2829. Wikidata Q55891827. with an inappropriate link for lichenologist in enwiki. Hoping that this issue can be fixed. @MargaretRDonald: We determined that the cause isn't in {{Cite Q}}'s code, but another Lua module that it calls. We plan to update that, but a work-around in the meantime was to change the English label for Q55891827 from "Lichenologist" to "The Lichenologist". parameter? for cite Q

Hi Andy. Having uploaded the larger part of the journal Muelleria, I have been replacing references to Muelleria journal articles with cite Q refs. However, I note that a number of editors, not trusting the permanence of the Muelleria's pdf links, put in the parameter: accessdate=. These I have been reluctant to touch since while I think Muelleria intends them to be permanent links, who knows? cite Q and italics in an article name

Hi Andy. Could I draw your attention to the discussion at User:MargaretRDonald Apology where a colleague will not be using cite Q because {{cite Q|Q102425855}} produces N. Walsh (2013). "Maireana obrienii (Chenopodiaceae), a new species from eastern Australia" (PDF). Muelleria. 31: 61–64. doi:10.5962/P.295678. ISSN 0077-1813. Wikidata Q102425855. with the title not correctly italicised as in: Maireana obrienii (Chenopodiaceae), a new species from eastern Australia]. I can imagine italicising with e.g.<i>, but to do something like that would mean that searching for article titles in wikidata would be a nightmare. I am enjoying using cite Q as it has the capacity to link authors of scholarly articles who are cited in an article to be linked to the author, with all the hard work happening just once in wikidata. Anyway I am tossing the discussion in your direction because you and your work group may be able to think of some brilliant way to overcome the problem.... AAGM People ID revisited

Hi Andy.

Despite assurances given when creating https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/aagm_people_ID it turns out that their "people' ID is used commonly for companies. This obviously causes problems when adding AAGM People ID (P8783) to Wikidata Companies - which will be 100s.

Examples:

• https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4719050
• https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1571257
• https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q105775101

What is the 'correct' approach to resolution? eg

• Loosening or amending the validation rules on P8783?
• Creating a 'copy' "AAGM Company ID" with different validation rules
• something else?

And what process should we follow?

@Wostr: I regret to say that no, nothing has changed. Lack of support in the IETF language community led me to decide that my efforts were better expended on other things. The counter-proposals in the IETF mailing list discussions failed to meet the use-cases in my original proposal.
