TROPOMI (Q44488745) / Tropomi (Q17502490)

Items involved: Q44488745Talk, Q17502490Talk Status:    resolved

TROPOMI is the (official) abbreviation for TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument. When I started Q44488745 I got no response for the existance of Q17502490, where the subject was named incorrectly (in my opinion) as Tropomi. Q17502490 is mostly connected to Wikipedia articles (four) on Sentinel-5 Precursor, which is the name of the satellite in which TROPOMI is orbiting earth. I believe these should be treated as two separate subjects/items. I propose to rename Q17502490 to Sentinel-5 Precursor (it's official name) and transfer the one article Tropomi to Q44488745. As I have no experience in splitting/merging on Wikidata, nor do I know if I am even allowed to do so, I am asking for help. PS: Please provide some info on how to use/fill in this page. --OSeveno (talk) 12:50, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

@OSeveno: I've checked both items now and came to the same conclusion. I set now a new corresponding label on Sentinel-5 Precursor (Q17502490) for the satellite since it seem that the en version was moved and the label stayed. I also transfered the pt article to Tropomi (Q44488745) as it according to the translation oly covers the spectrometer. If you encounter another object and notice that something is incorrect or missing you can use the edit links there too. I set the status of this section now to partially resolved and encourage anyone to check and confirm the changes again. --Steinfeld-feld (talk) 20:23, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

If you go to Belgrano Norte Line in English Wikipedia the link for Spanish is this: Ferrocarril General Belgrano#Línea Belgrano Norte instead of this: Línea Belgrano Norte even though in the Wikidata page it says Línea Belgrano Norte

I tried editing but it keeps linking to "Ferrocarril General Belgrano#Línea Belgrano Norte", even when I deleted all links in the Wikidata page.

Hello, I need some expert help. wp-en has all information on the subject at "Fritzl case" and wp-de has all information at "Josef Fritz". I know it could be resolved by merging the two items, but other languages actually have articles for both. I saw on the help page something about "anchors" but I couldn't immediately wrap my mind around it. Is there a way to get interlanguage links to work around the web of redirects, etc., so that English users viewing "Fritz case" can see the link to "Josef Fritz" on the German page and vice versa? Thanks, --SVTCobra (talk) 00:40, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

The items should not be merged as they are not identical (one is a person, one is a criminal case). What about classical interwiki links (see my edits [1] and [2])? --тнояsтеn 09:13, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I didn't know the classic style still worked. --SVTCobra (talk) 09:40, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

The Swedish word esplanad (and the Finnish corresponding word puistokatu, "park street") refers specifically to a wide street with a planted or tree-lined median. An esplanade in the English (and international) sense is called strandpromenad ("beach promenade", probably with a corresponding word in Finnish - rantaraitti?). Esplanad and esplanade are, of course, etymologically the same, but the meanings are completely different. /2001:6B0:2A:C110:E57D:10A7:E7A1:84A1 18:05, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

The second item has deleted. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:40, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes, because it didn't contain any interwiki links, because they couldn't be moved/deleted from Q88372, because they can't be moved/deleted if they don't exist anywhere else, which they cannot do as long as they exist anywhere else. Catch 22. The problem still isn't resolved, but can of course be resolved by a user with the proper rights, i.e. not the basic rights. /2001:6B0:2A:C110:E57D:10A7:E7A1:84A1 16:25, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
So if I understand correctly, we need (at least) 2 items, one for the esplanade « wide street » and one for the esplanade « promenade » ? I think we maybe need more than 2; in French « une esplanade » is just a « big place / square » (sometimes with trees but not necessarily, and not particulary for promenade).
Anyone can do that with « basic right », no need of special rights and no catch 22. Nobody can move a link, uou need to delete the link on the first item and *then* add it on the second item.

While trying to remove the sv and fi Wikipedia articles from Q88372 I get this message: "An error occurred while trying to perform remove. Your changes could not be completed. Warning: The action you are about to take will remove a sitelink from this item. Sitelinks should only be removed if the page in question has been deleted, or if that link is being merged into another item. If you are trying to do neither of these, please do not submit this edit again." Before the centralised interwiki link handling one could always try to outsmart the interwiki bots. Now it seems that an erroneous interwiki linking is permanent, irrevocable. /2001:6B0:2A:C110:F93C:42A5:7D37:E345 11:27, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
If you are logged in, you can activate in your Preferences menu a gadget called move. It will show green arrow icons on every site link to move it to another item. But you have to type in the Item ID of the other item. --Diwas (talk) 03:17, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
I really don't think the distinction is that big. Even the English page is not exclusively about beach promenades. If necessary, one could make a new item "beach promenade" but as there are no serious conflicts, only slight local nuances, I don't see the point in splitting. --Joostik (talk) 15:22, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
And yet none of the examples given in en:Esplanade could be called esplanad in Swedish (and probably not puistokatu in Finnish). Esplanad and esplanade are false friends. (Alley and allé are also false friends. Fortunately they haven't been linked.) /2001:6B0:2A:C110:F93C:42A5:7D37:E345 20:41, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
fi:Puistokatu was not linked from any item, I have created a new item for fi: and I have moved sv:esplanad to Q19361458. --Diwas (talk) 03:39, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
I guess that settles it then. --Joostik (talk) 11:20, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
Great! /194.47.152.215 13:41, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
