The German page https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture has a sitelink to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture_(disambiguation). But in the German Wikipedia "Aperture" can only list a software and a magazin, as the translation of en:aperture is de:Apertur without 'e'. So all other German pages corresponding to the list at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture_(disambiguation) are listed at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apertur_(Begriffskl%C3%A4rung) As it seems not possible to connect both, dewiki:Apertur_(Begriffskl%C3%A4rung) and dewiki:Aperture, to enwiki:Aperture_(disambiguation) it should be considered to move the link from dewiki:Aperture to dewiki:Apertur_(Begriffskl%C3%A4rung)--153.96.19.10 12:39, 23 January 2019 (UTC) |

goods (Q28877)/tangible good (Q1485500)[edit]
Items involved: Q28877Talk, Q1485500Talk | Status: not resolved
Some of the articles listed under Q1485500 (tangible good), specifically the Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian language articles, should be listed under Q28877 (goods). The articles in aforementioned languages linked under Q28877 (goods) right now do not directly translate to "goods" as contrasted to "services" in the English language, but denote a broader concept, similar to "goods and services", and don't have a direct translation to English, not that I know of. However, the articles listed under Q1485500 (tangible good) do translate to "goods" as contrasted with "services" and for this reason it would be much more helpful if they linked to the English article for "goods"; right now no English article is linked. -- Kiutsushou (talk) 01:14, 22 February 2019 (UTC) |

Analytical mechanics (Q21653530)/analytical mechanics (Q833065)[edit]
Items involved: Q21653530Talk, Q833065Talk | Status: not resolved
It seems that some wiki-pages make the distinction between analytical mechanics and theoretical mechanics. One of these items contain labels which only translate to 'analytical mechanics' (in be, et, ru, uk). The other item is roughly 50/50 divided between 'theoretical mechanics' and 'analytical mechanics'. A simple merge does not work because some languages will refer to both subjects. I'm inclined to change the corresponding wiki-articles and labels to the 'analytical mechanics' for those who have them available. Is that the correct way to do it? --Rasinj (talk) 17:01, 24 March 2019 (UTC) |

Government of France (Q1450662)/Council of Ministers (Q2993836)[edit]
Items involved: Q1450662Talk, Q2993836Talk | Status: in doubt
Based on the topic indicated by its name, the en-wiki redirect at w:Council of Ministers of France should be linked to the French article fr:w:Conseil de Ministres (France) via Q2993836. But when I tried to save it, I get a "Could not save due to an error". I'm guessing this is because the former is a redirect. No doubt this sort of thing has come up before, but I'm not a habitué at WD and am not sure where to find it or what to do about it. French Wikipedia currently has two articles, fr:w:Gouvernement de la République française (Q1450662) and fr:w:Conseil de Ministres (France) (Q2993836), whereas en-wiki has just one article: Government of France (Q1450662). En-wiki also has the redirect w:Council of Ministers of France (with rcats R to section and R with possibilities which targets "Government of France". This redirect should, imho, be expanded into an article. (I might do it myself.) In the meantime, it seems to me that the en-redirect should redirect to the fr-article even in the abence of any text. But during the linking process for Q2993836, when I offered "en-wiki" and "Council of Ministers of France" as the linking data, the pop up offered the redirected target article name "Government of France" on en-wiki instead. When I rejected that, and insisted on the redirect name, I got the error. I'm assuming that the linking process refuses a redirect because that is the design, but I find this a shame. The current redirect title uniquely specifies what the article is about and distinguishes it from other articles, just like a future article in its place would do. Why should it matter whether the en-wiki mainspace title "Council of Ministers of France" has text in it, or has a redirect link? Although I see why certain redirects (misspellings, alt names, many others) should not be linked, it seems like a redirect which has "possibilities" and is marked "printworthy" meets the standard of linkage. Could the software be changed to permit this? Mathglot (talk) 00:44, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

No problem with english, the problem is in russian terms that are connected. So, "personality" must be translated to russian as "личность", not "индивидуальность". "Индивидуальность" must be translated to english as individuality not personality. Earth's crust (Q15316)/crust (Q4232578)[edit]
Items involved: Q15316Talk, Q4232578Talk | Status: not resolved
These are certainly different concepts -- one is an example of the other. But because there's a lot more information known about the Earth's crust than about all other planet's crusts combined, many Wikipedias have just one article for both concepts. Trouble is, different Wikipedias differ on which of these concepts gets the page title. E.g. on enwiki, w:Earth's_crust just redirects to a section of w:Crust (geology) (its largest section); but on dewiki, w:de:Erdkruste ("Earth-crust") is the page, and there doesn't seem even to be a redirect from a title that would correspond to "Crust (geology)". The result is that if you're looking at the English page and want to find the German, there's no interlanguage link, and vice versa. I don't know how to resolve this. I guess the escape-hatch solution from a Wikipedia perspective is just to add a bunch of old-fashioned "local" links in the various articles. It sure would be nice if there were a way to get that from information in Wikidata, though -- something like "if looking for Q15316, fall back to Q4232578" and vice versa. --Gnp (talk) 22:43, 27 April 2019 (UTC) |

Items involved: Q4442616Talk, Q26990366Talk | Status: in doubt
--Lesendes Okapi (talk) 19:30, 10 May 2019 (UTC) Hi, I'm completely new to Wikidata and just came here by clicking the "edit links" button in the interwiki-link-space at the left of a wikipedia-article. I found there are two categories at Wikidata for stilbene - Q4442616 and Q26990366. So some languages belong to one category and some to the other, which results in missing interwikilinks, so if you open the article Stilben no link to the English version is to be seen and vice versa. I think the problem is because of the topic - there are two isomers of this compound and some languages have separate articles for each one and a kind of disambiguation site for the topic "stilbene" linking to the separate articles and some languages have just one article about both compound variants. Would it be possible to link this pages anyway? I think the benefit for the reader from having more language options to decide would be bigger than the confusion, because there are only two derivates. --Lesendes Okapi (talk) 19:30, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

long wave (Q1136860)/long wave (Q1082861)/low frequency (Q17156810)[edit]
Items involved: Q1136860Talk, Q1082861Talk, Q17156810Talk | Status: not resolved
Rua and I disagree about the (incl. the historical) content of Q1136860 and Q1082861 and that is why I write this chat/discussion. (Low frequency has it's own item Q17156810) Quote fra Rua: "Langbølger (Q1082861) is about the longwave broadcasting band, and has always been about that before I even made any edits, because it always had "radio broadcast band" in the description. So Q1136860 is a duplicate." My judgement is that:
The elder history of Q1082861 shows that it is about the longwaves (as defined by ITU; 10 km - 1 km; correspond to 30-300 kHz). Contents: GND=4166718-9 (Source: Imported from english Wikipedia) refers to Kilometerwelle, Radiofrequenzbereich. commons:Category:Longwaves. Kilometerwelle found here; de:Frequenzband#Übersicht.
The elder history of Q1136860 shows that it is/was about the longwave (broadcasting) band (as defined by ITU; refers to the range center carrier wave to center carrier wave: 148.5-283.5 KHz, interval with channel AM-modulation 153-279 kHz; 9kHz (+-4.5kHz) channel bandwidth). (ought to have commons:Category:Longwave radio broadcasting). Sources:

There is a page for Coturnix, a page for Coturnix Coturnix, and a page for quail. I tried adding a link from [en] quail to [de] Wachtel, but a "Wachtel" is a "Coturnix Coturnix" (Q28358) and the link is already occupied by it. Ok, yeah, that's true, I thought, a quail is more general, I suppose, and it says in the description of quail quail (Q6072584) it is a "name for several genera of birds in the order Galliformes". Well, what is it now? To which article in German should quail quail (Q6072584) link? Biological systematics is driving me crazy. There should be some kind of link from quail to German or a short text on the page "quail" that says something like "Are you looking for the species Common Quail (Coturnix Coturnix)?" --Wikimarrowe (talk) 06:06, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

English Wikipedia describes Colt Canada C8 on the Colt Canada C7 page (treating it as a variant). But many other language versions (e.g. Polish Wikipedia) have separate pages for these two. There is an English page for Colt Canada C8, which redirects to C8 section of the C7 article. I think the C8 redirect should be set as the English equivalent of the C8 articles in other languages. Right now it's going to send people where they want to go (C8 part of the C7 article) and if the C8 ever gets its own separate article, there will be no need to change the language mapping as it will still point to the right article. --192.55.54.42 14:43, 26 July 2019 (UTC) |

In Wikipedia in French (and also in other languages, I believe), these pages are two distinct pages for two models of this rocket. But in English, there is only one page for the rocket family, with paragraphs for each of these rockets. Because of that, I cannot create a link to the SS-520 paragraph of the english page since this page is already linked in the S-520 page... In other words, the problem is that the two languages are organized differently, and the two french pages must link to the same english page, but to different paragraphs, and it seems wikidata cannot handle that...--83.145.69.50 13:43, 30 July 2019 (UTC) |

Anahata (Q954938)/Sahasrara (Q2574521)[edit]
Items involved: Q954938Talk, Q2574521Talk | Status: not resolved
Greetings. It seems that there are two pages in Portuguese wikipedia referring to the Crown Chakra (e.g. at the top of the head), and one of them is linked to the Anahata (Heart Chakra - which is something completely different) page in all other languages. Since in Portuguese the adjective for Crown is coronário, it seems that someone mistook it for the coronary artery, which is located at the heart, hence the confusion. The Portuguese page for Anahata (Q954938) should be either moved/merged to Sahasrara (Q2574521) or deleted in its entirety. Thanks in advance, Rafaelspellizzari (talk) 03:04, 7 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. In fact, all these languages have separate articles for each topic (chakra), and that's perfect. The issue I'm presenting is that Portuguese has an article talking about Anahata (Q2574521) grouped with all other languages' article for Sahasrara (Q954938)! besides having its own proper Q954938 article. Confusing, eh? Thing is, the Portuguese article for Q2574521 doesn't talk about Q2574521, hence it shouldn't be grouped with all other languages' Q2574521 articles, which in turn do adequately talk about that topic. Eileen Cooney (Q23309005)/Cooney sisters (Q23308249)[edit]
Items involved: Q23309005Talk, Q23308249Talk | Status: not resolved
I'm not sure what to do with this and would appreciate advice- The wikipedia page o the Cooney sisters exists because there really wasn't enough information about all of them to justify a page each but there was enough to justify them being on the Wiki. Now however there is a call for Eileen Cooney on wikidata which prompts for her own page. A redirect (which I tried last night) doesn't work. Someone else put the wikidata link on the redirect but that doesn't seem to have solved the issue. I'm not sure whether (or how) to request a deletion of the wikidata entry? In theory all 3 sisters should have data and it should point to the sisters page until such time as there is more info worthy to separate them out into 3 pages.--Antiqueight (talk) 18:12, 9 October 2019 (UTC) |

There is a reason why humankind went to scientific names. The physical object (described by the wiki article) is only linked by the type and that is always particular to a specific taxon concept not half a dozen as given in Microcarbo melanoleucos (Q783177). binzasara (Q2904003)/kokiriko (Q3051404)[edit]
Items involved: Q2904003Talk, Q3051404Talk | Status: not resolved
This may not be an interwiki conflict, but the fr/es/cawp explanation of kokiriko (Q3051404) is about the instrument binzasara. Kokiriko actually refers to mere two pieces of bamboo stick like this. Binzasara is a type of sasara, which has more complex structure and some variant forms (Jawp article of binzasara (Q2904003) is not about binzasara but about sasara). Binzasara and kokiriko are often confused since they're both typically used in a Japanese famous folk song Kokiriko-bushi. In fact binzasara is also called kokiriko-zasara. --LT sfm (talk) 15:25, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

There's a slight problem: in English and most other languages when people say "pierogi", they specifically mean Polish (or similar) dumplings. Meanwhile in Polish the term is used to describe any kind of dumplings. This is even visible in the descriptions at the top of pierogi (Q697800): English description refers to central/eastern Europe dish, while the Polish description is about the concept of dumplings in general and so it would be more fitting in dumpling (Q1854639). Similarly, the page "Pierogi" on Polish Wikipedia has a section for dumplings in Poland and another section for dumplings from abroad. |
