Wikidata:Notability -- MovieFex (talk) 06:03, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
@MovieFex: Do you really believe this movie does not exist? I think it is not a false item, and it would be able to check its existence in the libraries in Nepal. Also, I searched its title on the web and found the video itself. In that sense, it has a potential to fulfill notability, and at this time I don't think we have to delete it. Regards, --Okkn (talk) 04:36, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
@Okkn: It is not the question what I am believing, it is a question about if admins act according to the rules. At the time I asked for deletion there was nothing that would have fit to WD:N. And it is still not. I do work a lot in maintenance without scripts, bots or something else. I've tried to get in here some quality (as it should be in any Wikimedia project), but if some of the adminship support every unsourced rubbish, this is a fight against windmills. -- MovieFex (talk) 20:03, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
I think the field just needs work. Wikidata:WikiProject Movies/lists/films by country/Nepal/ne can be a start.
--- Jura 16:56, 6 June 2018 (UTC)

I found several sources regarding the film's director and two of its cast members (and in the process determined the composer and some lyricists). I am not a Nepali speaker, but I am confident that I separated out references to the film from references to actual daughters-in-law in searching for those sources. If my additions to this item are to your liking, @MovieFex:, then I will mark this deletion request as not done. Otherwise, feel free to nag and pester any Nepali Wikimedians wherever you may find them to see if they can obtain other sources from Nepal that conform to your standards. @Jura1: is absolutely right in that the world of Nepali cinema needs work on Wikimedia projects in general. It is incredibly difficult, however, to find enough sources about any lesser-known South Asian subject to the extent that it may be possible for a subject from the United States or Europe, much more if you don't know any South Asian language. Also @Okkn: for being in this discussion. Mahir256 (talk) 00:14, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

  • @Mahir256: Thanks. I think the item starts looking better.
Based on what I found on enwiki, I made items for the cast of some of the other films. It seems that many weren't available at all in Wikidata. The good news is that we get some present in several films (list). I left a note on WikiProject Movies. I think we can close these nominations and might want to reach out to the users who created these in January.
    --- Jura 05:20, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
  • @Jura1: These items were created during a ‘datathon’ that was advertised in January on the Wikidata Community Facebook page. I had then asked @Bijay chaurasia: if he could inform the folks at the ‘datathon’ to improve their items beyond the stubs they are at present; he said he’d get to it but five months later I still haven’t heard anything. This is the reason I used the terms ‘nag and pester’ in my response above; even if I ping @सरोज कुमार ढकाल, BRPever, Nabin K. Sapkota, Nirmal Dulal, Ram Prasad Joshee, Pitambar Bhattarai: to ask if they or others they know can help improve those items (why bother pinging people like Ejviswas who only contributed in January or whatever perennial contributors I see on newiki/newwiki/dtywiki/maiwiki’s recent changes?), I am a bit pessimistic that such expansive efforts on the part of Nepali Wikimedians will be continuously delayed. Mahir256 (talk) 06:01, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
    • Ah, that's were they originated. I suppose the script barrier isn't really easy to overcome in the other direction either and building film items from scratch isn't that simple either. You did seem to have identified some possible sources. Maybe the three new Listeria reports can help too. If there is some interest, I can try to help importing the lists from enwiki. Otherwise, I will merely try to figure out their way of writing dates.
      --- Jura 06:11, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

@Mahir256: First let's determine a fact:
At the moment I did the request for deletion this was the status of the object. As I mentioned above I do work a lot to make corrections on items which are linked on maintenance pages. This is nothing where you can shoot up your edit count, all edits have to be made manually, this takes time. I do not correct the items here only, I correct them also in the wikipedia projects, where the errors come from imported by "script-workers" without any check. E.g. John Burton (Q54819584) wasn't listed here and every link in frwiki was wrong, so it was here too.

"Based on what I found on enwiki, I made items for the cast of some of the other films."
Wikipedia is no source! The informations from w:List of Nepalese films of 1978–1999 are unsourced/unreferenced and honestly this is a candidate for deletion as the few links that are given there lead to wrong articles or the articles itself would earn a request for deletion (w:Wikipedia:Verifiability / w:Wikipedia:Notability).

In Wikidata there are about 30–40% of the objects double entries, fakes or orphans without any notability. There is no label, description, instance of (P31) or qualifier. The thousands of pages of constraint violations increase more and more, the candidates for merger are nearly countless (e.g. see User:Pasleim/projectmerge) and all because of sloppy work.

And now you come with "feel free to nag and pester any Nepali Wikimedians wherever you may find them to see".

This is not only rude, it is outrageous. This is true for users and especially for admins.

If you do not accept the policies and the rules and if you are not able to discuss objectively without personal attacks you should think about the burden of being an admin. -- MovieFex (talk) 16:18, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

@MovieFex: (First of all, half your comment is directed at remarks made by @Jura1:, so you should have pinged Jura. I added what I could to that film item without creating any new items, and you may verify this. I will thus try to focus the rest of this comment on that which pertains to what I said.)
I do accept the policies and the rules of Wikidata, and I do not see anywhere where I specifically disavow them. This film, per point 2 of WD:N, is a 'clearly identifiable conceptual or material entity' which 'can be described using serious and publicly available references' (note the verb "can" in that phrase). We could well describe this film using databases exclusively of Nepali films, but I don't recall a determination being made as to whether those sources are 'serious', so I tried to avoid them, making the search for articles that make note of the film much more difficult. On the other hand, @Okkn: and I both found the film on the Internet (and I added the link to the film on the item), so it has indeed been clearly identified as a material film and, since the item was made not as spam or as a promotion (allowing it the opportunity to be described using serious and publicly available references), thus merits inclusion. I understand that this cannot necessarily be said of many of the subjects described on wikis hosted on shard s3 (which has led to other users' frustration with the inclusion of certain items linked to certain wikis), but we have point 1 of WD:N which allows inclusion of items with 'at least one valid sitelink' to one of ten Wikimedia sites. This is what delays us deleting spam items—waiting for other wikis to delete spam pages linked from the item—on many occasions.
I was not attempting to impugn your behavior or that of Nepali Wikimedians in recommending an alternative to accepting the changes I made, so my sincerest apologies if it came up this way or in any other way which may be construed as a personal attack. I had intended to convey a sense of frequent notification and concern that one could use in approaching others (the same sense with which I approach other users about merging pages about the same subject on their wikis which have distinct Wikidata items—preventing them from being merged on Wikidata in the first place), so I now recognize that using the two terms 'nag and pester' did not serve well to neutrally convey that sense. I recognize also that the expressed frustration of other Wikidata admins with respect to subjects they have to deal with does not justify my own with regard to this one. Mahir256 (talk) 17:18, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
  • I think the item meets Wikidata's notability requirements as summarized by Mahir256. Whether content of enwiki meets its policies is better discussed with its contributors on that wiki.

  • Sorry, just noticed the alert. Well, this movie seems to exist and I see the name of some famous Nepali actors in the item so I agree that item can be kept here. I am working on article that fails to claim notability in Newiki too. If there is anything I can do to help here, I will be happy to do that. Thanks-BRP ever 19:02, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
