Delete deprecated genes (bot requests)

The above lists of items were listed by ProteinBoxBot, with the explanation "These genes are deprecated by NCBI".

I temporarily moved them to the archives as these broke the Requests for deletions page. I suppose a random sample like Q20773608 can probably be discussed for any of those. ProteinBoxBot doesn't seem to be authorized to dump items on this page.
--- Jura 19:57, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

If you check any of the Identifiers on the random item (Q20773608), you can see that they have all been either removed or deprecated by the official sources. Often times, Identifiers are moved onto other items, which causes conflicts (multiple items with the same identifiers) and so I think it is best to just remove these items. (Note: I am on the ProteinBoxBot team and have generated these deletion requests) Gstupp (talk) 18:57, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

@Esquilo: I added possibly invalid entry requiring further references (Q35779580) to P31. I think this should solve it for Wikidata.
--- Jura 06:39, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

Not deleted. As long as there is a valid sitelink to any Wikimedia project (Wikidata:Notability, #1), the item will not be deleted. There are myriads of similar cases for cebwiki anyway. Jura indicated how this can be dealt with on Wikidata’s side. —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:13, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

cebwiki is unfortunately full of bot-generated articles about geographical objects that may or may not extst. Apart from svwp where articles like this are cleaned up, cebwiki does not have the manpower to do that. /ℇsquilo 06:55, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

Nihan Taşyürek (Q24924843): Turkish TV series actress: (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)

Turkish TV actress. Articles both in Turkish and now in Russian were deleted for lack of notability, no other interwikis left. --Tatewaki (talk) 21:32, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

On hold This item is linked from 2 others. --DeltaBot (talk) 05:40, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
@Tatewaki: She is listed as having played in 2 notable tv-series. If she played in them, she is notable due to structural need, if she didn't play in them, the incorrect statements need to be removed before she can be deleted. Did she play in those 2 series (check her incoming links)? Mbch331 (talk) 06:20, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
I just added these now based on what I found on trwiki.
--- Jura 06:28, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
Well, if the notability criteria here in Wikidata include "whoever participated in notable series, is notable due to structural need" (whatever that means, just by presence in the roll call — yes, she did play named characters in two series — without evaluation of notability of such participation from reasonable secondary media coverage) - of course, keep it. I just know that neither TurkishWP, not Russian WP notability rules consider such "any participation in notable" as a basis of personal notability and neither of other language sections have any signs of ever considering to wikify her... Tatewaki (talk) 10:01, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
If they appear on the credits, they are notable. Wikidata is a database. So notability criteria are different. If Wikipedia wants to generate a complete cast list, that information needs to be in Wikidata. That's what's meant with structural need. In order to be able to generate a complete cast list, the cast list on Wikidata needs to be complete and that might make people on Wikidata notable that aren't notable on Wikipedia. Mbch331 (talk) 18:29, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

I have added external references to the claims in the items about the series she played in, and expanded Nihan Taşyürek (Q24924843) by three described at URL (P973) claims. This clearly indicates notability according to WD:N, #2 and #3 and thus the item is  Not deleted. —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:40, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

@Nomen ad hoc: Why was this created? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:15, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi there. I aimed to document about one of the figures of the project attempting to fill in the WP gender gap (see e. g. [1]), while I though she matched the notability criterias (notably because of the several authority controls, whose I understood after a conversation with an experienced user they suffice). Nomen ad hoc (talk) 15:29, 16 September 2017 (UTC).
@Spinster, Pigsonthewing, Nomen ad hoc: With the Bibliothèque nationale de France ID (P268) and IdRef ID (P269) identifiers she is notable according to WD:N. Did we ever have such a case before? Do we have other policies according to which we should delete/not delete such items? Wikipedias typically do not delete biographies upon the person’s request as far as I know. —MisterSynergy (talk) 06:13, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
AFAICT, the only previous case is when an administrator deleted a bunch of items about speakers at a Wikimania, including himself, disregarding both objections from others, including their creator, and his own CoI. Clearly, that should not be regarded as a precedent. On en.WP, for example borderline notability cases may have articles about themselves deleted at their request, but clearly notable people cannot. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:52, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

I have ✓ Deleted the item. Our deletion policy, still a draft/proposed policy, does not explicitly cover the case that has happened here: a subject requested deletion of the item about herself via User:Spinster, whom I trust to be known to the subject and whom I therefore deem eligible to nominate the item here. Besides other statements, the item contained two external identifiers Bibliothèque nationale de France ID (P268) and IdRef ID (P269) and two references with a web link to a newspaper, which made it formally notable according to #2 of our notability criteria. There were no sitelinks to any Wikimedia project (not notable according to #1), and the item was not in use by another item as well (no structural item according to #3). I followed User:Pigsonthewing’s hint to English Wikipedia’s BLP page to find that other projects do permit deletion of such articles in certain cases. With the evaluation of notability as outlined above, I hereby rate the subject in question as “relatively unknown” due to the fact that it is not linked to other Wikidata content or Wikimedia projects. I use common sense according to Wikidata:Deletion policy#Deletion of items (Phase I), 4th bullet point, in that I adopt for this case only the policy of English Wikipedia due to the lack of a local equivalent. In case one wants to contest this deletion, please feel free to show up on my talk page for further discussion. I suggest to have a project-wide discussion about the scenario of this case (subject requests deletion of the item about itself), to possibly expand our deletion policy (draft) by this aspect. I note that there are many cases which make a deletion impossible for sure. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:49, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Thank you. The person described in this item has indeed approached me in person (IRL), asking me to request deletion of her item. I did tell her that I expected there to be some discussion about this and that I could not guarantee her request to be honored. But I am happy on her behalf with the outcome. I also think that broader discussion about this, and perhaps a policy, might be a good idea, so I put a note here on the Deletion policy talk page. Feel free to chime in. Spinster 💬 19:19, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. A difficult case, but I think you made a good call. The lack of incoming links form other items is certainly sgnificant. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:45, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
