ICTV virus genome composition
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science
Description | classification of viruses of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses by the molecular composition of the virus genome (DNA, RNA, double or single stranded and translational polarity) |
---|---|
Data type | Item |
Domain | virus (Q808) |
Allowed values | subclasses of virus genome composition (Q44400091) |
Example | Ferak orthoferavirus (Q29002462) → negative-sense single strand RNA virus (Q9285327) |

- Motivation
We have currently a proposal for the Baltimore_classification which is an obsolate way to classify viruses. It makes more sense to use the actual international standard that gets defined by the ICTV. ChristianKl (✉) 13:49, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
- Discussion
Notified participants of WikiProject Biology WikiProject Taxonomy has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. @Xavier Dengra, Amadalvarez, Yeza, Paucabot: ChristianKl (✉) 13:51, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

- @Succu: Can we find a good name for the supergroup of those? ChristianKl (✉) 23:22, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

- I created virus genome composition (Q44400091) and added it as subclass to your list. While I did study bioinformatics, it's been a while since I went more deeply into the subject matter. Feel free to add any relevant information or clean up the relationships. ChristianKl (✉) 16:24, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

- Thanks. My bot will add the values found at ICTV Master Species List 2016 v1.3 (Q29000566) within the next days. --Succu (talk) 21:03, 8 December 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose Classification property. Use instance of (P31)/subclass of (P279). No need of a new property. Per Help:Calssification. author TomT0m / talk page 17:06, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
