Motivation[edit]

Identify bathing water in Europe and also in the long run we will have a key to the monitoring of the water quality at those bathing waters . All EU countries upload data using this identifier see State of bathing waters. As Sweden also have implemented an application for displaying the Swedish bathing water using this identifier this will be phase 1 of populating this property. Below a list of websites other countries has implemented but maybe not has a formatter URL with the bathingWaterIdentifier as an argument

What I want to see, is examples in the proposal box in a couple of other countries so that we can judge whether the naming should be Swedish bathing water identifier, EU bathing water identifier or bathing water identifier. As of now, the proposals looks dubious to me. Ainali (talk) 17:01, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ainali
  1. Naming I feel we should not invent a new name (I feel European Environment Agency (Q632988) change names in an odd way that is just confusing). The formal name as I understand it is stated in dd.eionet.europa.eu/dataelements/99263 bathingWaterIdentifier released 23 October 2019
  2. URL formatter as said Swedish identifiers will be added in Phase 1. If we could get a commitment from European Environment Agency (Q632988) that they who has all reported identifiers also supports having bathingWaterIdentifier as an argument would be the best --> we will have an url formatter to them
    1. If using the Swedish URL formatter that will fail when we start add other countries identifiers is a problem I suggest we dont have an URL formatter and instead set up the Swedish one as an third-party formatter URL (P3303) compare Property:P227#P3303

Is it possible to use different URL formatters for different values? Doesn't that require separate identifiers? Perhaps this should just be a text string with no formatter otherwise, so that we don't need many identifiers. If we do get a commitment, then we can add it. But never the Swedish one, because that will not be valid for but a few percent of the identifiers. Ainali (talk) 06:44, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Reply Ainali "Is it possible to use different URL formatters for different values" guess not. A tool like Wikidata:Entity Explosion displays all third-party formatter URL (P3303) so the user selects the formatter.
  • I added bwProfileUrl which is the reported Url for a specific bath and its some en:Link rot and no standard Url patterns used. Austria (Q40) Sweden (Q34) looks like using the bathingWaterIdentifier

If it is not possible then we should really either rename the property or remove the formatter. Once this is live, it should be clear how the property should be used and not cause any errors if people add values in line with the constraints. Ainali (talk) 11:17, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Remove the formatter and use the name defined in dd.eionet.europa.eu/dataelements/99263 if nonworking formatter URL is a problem. I feel lesson learned is that a working formatter makes the quality much better in Wikidata Swedish Open Cultural Heritage URI (P1260) was created in 2014 and last year we could add an formatter and we directly found a lot of errors - Salgo60 (talk) 12:23, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe an user script could be a poor mans solution that use third-party formatter URL (P3303) if we dont get a commitment from European Environment Agency (Q632988) to give as a formatter URL - Salgo60 (talk) 13:21, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well yes, a working formatter would be great. But it is not working if people are starting to add other than Swedish identifiers on it. Or do you suggest a constraint to stop that? Ainali (talk) 16:26, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As most people are not very skilled about the bathingWaterIdentifier, European Environment Agency (Q632988), Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (Q10518645) and Wikidata I feel
My wish is that more links and clickable objects will explain for more people the benefits of the echo system of Wikidata. I have tried to ask eg. the European Data Portal (Q21819923) people why they run in the wrong direction with text strings video and it feels like they miss the vision/leadership moving in the direction that Wikidata is doing and has already deliver ie. showing the concept of linking is important even if it is not 100% perfect in this case is my hope... most important is to get bathingWaterIdentifier approved the link is "nice to have"....

I feel differently. The formatters should absolutely work 100% of the time or not be used at all. People will just have to learn how to use the identifiers without a formatter if one that doesn't work for the property in it's entirety can be produced. Ainali (talk) 18:53, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I will support a proposal without a defunct formatter. Ainali (talk) 22:50, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so we can get this moving OT we found some interesting diffs what is reported in the Swedish API and what shown at European Environment Agency (Q632988) see issues/18 - Salgo60 (talk) 05:16, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Salgo60, Koroplet, Jura1, Ainali, Popperipopp, So9q: ✓ Done Now Eionet bathing Water ID (P9616). I linked European Environment Information and Observation Network (Q1378198) as main subject, which perhaps is not the best possible choice. I also gave three examples in different countries.
