Project Objectives[edit]

The University of Pennsylvania Library is engaging in the PCC Wikidata Pilot by making sure that serial issues in Penn Libraries Deep Backfiles have Wikidata entries that clearly identify them and distinguish them from other serials. A secondary focus of the Penn Libraries work is adding Academic Departments, Schools, and Research Centers in Wikidata. We may extend the secondary focus into editing areas of scholarly output by Penn Faculty as time and resources allow.

Aim and Scope[edit]

The scope of this project is to establish linked open data for serials Penn owns that can be combined with information that others have freely provided and linked related to those serials.

Supporting Penn Linked Data Outcomes

  • Short-Term: supporting RDF Data Persistence of Linked Data
  • Mid-term: developing staff expertise in Linked Data
  • Long-Term: Enhance discovery of Penn Collections

Serials in Penn Libraries' holdings that have free online and/or potentially public domain content.

Timeline[edit]

The pilot is anticipated to last about 12 months. Penn Libraries are starting with our Serials Project. Our secondary focus is to add Penn Schools, Departments, and Research Centers, with the potential goal of eventually adding in Faculty Research outputs that tie-into the Serials Project.
