Vandalism[edit]

Hi Pasleim, I can see that you changed User:Pasleim/Vandalism, that's great! Could you please share with me your check patterns, so that we can also use AbuseFilter? Matěj Suchánek (talk) 14:23, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Actually my check patterns are either copied from AbsueFilter or they rely on comparing with the linked WP articles. But I'm still playing around with other patterns and as soon as I have a some useful result I will share it. --Pasleim (talk) 17:19, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Is possible to add an "official website changed"? (example) --ValterVB (talk) 16:36, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Currently I'm only tracking vandalized labels/descriptions/aliases. But it's on my ToDo list also to track vandalized claims. --Pasleim (talk) 15:45, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Guten Abend Pasleim! --Silvio Ludwig (talk) 18:59, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Habe dort geantwortet. Du kannst dir auch mal unsere Showcase-Objekte anschauen, falls du gerne weitere Datenobjekte über Personen erstellen möchtest. --Pasleim (talk) 19:43, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bot merging given names items[edit]

Hello Pasleim,

Would you double-check what is being merged, Q18218258 and Q20020, Q13409273 and Q16909419 shouldn't be merged as they are spelled differently. --- Jura 22:46, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Last night, I propagated the edits made on http://tools.wmflabs.org/yichengtry to Wikidata. Those items were tagged to be about the same topic by 4 resp. 5 users.--Pasleim (talk) 10:28, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In Magnus' merging game, items that are interlinked are not proposed for merging. Could you implement the same check?
Another check that might need adding is to not merge disambiguation items with actual content. --- Jura 06:41, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I will implement such checks if I continue the work with yichengtry. --Pasleim (talk) 16:46, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Zusammenführen von Taxa[edit]

Hi!

Deine Erklärung einen Abschnitt weiter oben, also was du zusammenführst, hatte ich erst später gelesen. Gruß --Succu (talk) 16:54, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pasleim and welcome to the Swiss project !

I saw you are importing the maps file name (locator map image (P242)) from German Wikipedia. By curiosity, how far are you with this task ? Is there still a lot of work to be done ? Thanks in advance for your feedback, Manoillon (talk) 09:04, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Manoillon. I think I imported them all. On Property talk:P771 I added a constraint that all items with Swiss municipality code (P771) also needs locator map image (P242). We will see tomorrow on Wikidata:Database_reports/Constraint_violations/P771 if I missed some items. --Pasleim (talk) 10:15, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Do not merge[edit]

It seems that my most recent change to Wikidata:Do not merge/3 was not picked up in yesterday's update of projectmerge. For example, several of the voices that have reappeared in User:Pasleim/projectmerge/dewiki-itwiki were already added yesterday afternoon to the Do not merge page (eg: Karel Hromádka (Q12028265)). --Marcol-it (talk) 12:09, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On Wikidata:Do not merge/3 I can find the entry
and on dewiki-itwiki there is
so it's a different item pair. However, I have to investigate why yesterday only few pages got an update. --Pasleim (talk) 19:31, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bot suggestions[edit]

  1. Before merge function launched, a lot of users "merge" item manually by move all sitelink to another item. Also if you add link in client in the past, just sitelink is moved. Probably there're many such cases, like [1][2][3]. A bot can merge them.
  2. Also there're a lot of unresolved Wikidata:True duplicates. per Wikidata:Requests for comment/Redirect vs. deletion they should be redirected.

--GZWDer (talk) 10:16, 15 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the true duplicates are now resolved. For suggestion #1 I need some more time. --Pasleim (talk) 08:39, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Have you seen User:Matěj Suchánek/redirect or delete? Matěj Suchánek (talk) 15:46, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Be carefull. The first on the list (Cynomoriaceae (Q2700726)) has a backlink and is notable. --Succu (talk) 16:04, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@GZWDer, Matěj Suchánek: This tracking of removed links doesn't work. I did today 500 test edits and did quite a lot of edits wrong (see section below) even though I excluded all items with backlinks and only tracked "small" items with less than 3 claims --Pasleim (talk) 16:34, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wiederherstellen[edit]

Redirect edits are missing the botflag[edit]

Seems like the redirect edits are missing the bot flag, lots of them show up in Recent changes even when bots are hidden.

Hmm, sorry about that. I'm extremly sure that I set the bot flag and the edit preceding the redirect, i.e. the clearing-edit, has the bot flag. Maybe it's a bug in the system :/ Pasleim (talk) 08:36, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong merges[edit]

Hello Pasleim,

I see that your bot is making wrong merges, like this, and this. There is little point of putting in disambiguating information, if your bot is tracking these and wiping it out again. - Brya (talk) 10:35, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merges like this, this, this, this, this are not helpful either. Why create confusion, just for the sake of creating confusion? - Brya (talk) 15:37, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I will check all my merge edits from this morning, please give me some time --Pasleim (talk) 16:28, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, just a heads up on a few typos in en descriptions like on James P. Moore, Jr. (Q6140818), Dick Dyszel (Q5272867), David Guistina (Q5234462). Also Glendora (Q5568431), Bobby Rivers (Q4935513). Thanks --Haplology (talk) 03:15, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fehlende Links[edit]

Hey Pasleim :)

--Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 20:46, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lydia Pintscher (WMDE): Insgesamt konnten rund 17500 Links hinzugefügt bzw. --Pasleim (talk) 09:26, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Import SHORT DESCRIPTION from Persondata[edit]

Hi, I am about to renew the persondata debate, and I just want to check what ✓ Done means! I can see that the EN description has been largely populated, but my software still finds some missing. Q7490816 is an example just flagged up. is there a reason for this? I only want to make sure we have made the best use of the short description before it disappears. Periglio (talk) 17:29, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

currently I'm travelling but I will have a look at that next week. --Pasleim (talk) 17:40, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a list with items I missed to add the en description? Looking at my code I can't figure out why nothing was added to Q7490816. I assume that it was a transmission error but I can't verfy that. --Pasleim (talk) 19:13, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I just ran a scan of a 1000 persondata records and found 5 without EN description. Q4935009, Q5486672, Q3808419, Q6112561, Q16224817. I am not in a position to provide a complete list as I am only doing occasional short 1000 runs as I develop my software. Would you actually want a big list? I have a list of about 250 from my recent runs if thats useful? Periglio (talk) 14:07, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I restarted my bot and I will go again through all articles to check for missing descriptions. --Pasleim (talk) 17:48, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
For your info, I was manually adding a batch of missed descriptions and I kept getting an error message - label and description already exists. For example, Ajay Varma (Q4699668) would not let me add Indian cricketer as Ajay Varma (Q4699667) already had that description. Easy enough to disambiguate doing the edit by hand, but I suspect your bot just skipped over these. Periglio (talk) 09:31, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cristoforo Armeno[edit]

Hi Pasleim, sorry if I disturb you. Can you explain these two edits: [6] on Cristoforo Armeno (Q3002899). (If you read the original work, published in 1557, you'll see an introduction in italian written by this author that says he has translated the book into italian. Furthermore we know he spent large time of his life in Venice working. So it should be obviously he knew and spoke also italian). Second edit: [7] I've found the item on the official catalogue of Biblioteca Vaticana and precisly here. The url shows you the ID. Just to be clear, I'm not arguing with you for those edit. I just want to understand the reason, so that I shall not do the same mistake again. --Nastoshka(Gesagt - getan! Al vostro servizio!) 15:36, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  1. On ISO 9241 (Q699076) the Italian label was wrong, I fixed it now and so it should be clear why I removed this value.
  2. I don't know what the Id 1424121160121 is but it's not the Vatican Library identifier. Vatican Library ID (former scheme) (P1017) starts with BAV followed by 8 digits. --Pasleim (talk) 15:44, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks, now I understood --Nastoshka(Gesagt - getan! Al vostro servizio!) 16:12, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Pasleim, I did not understand if you are the developer of https://tools.wmflabs.org/yichengtry or not since your bot merges the valideted items. So maybe you can help me. Earthquake dates[edit]

I added the following comment on Wikidata:Bot requests in the thread about bot addition of earthquake dates:

This appears to have been done incorrectly. It is rare for texts to state dates in the Gregorian calendar before 15 October 1583, the earliest introduction date for the Gregorian calendar. The Wikipedia article says the date was 23 January 1556, without stating a calendar, which very strongly implies it is a Julian calendar date. But the Wikidata item claims this is a Gregorian date. I therefore request that User:Pasleim review every entry on the list and verify which calendar was used for the date, and revert any item for which there is doubt about the date. Any date before 1 March 1923 requires investigation, since that is the date the last country changed from Julian to Gregorian (Greece). Jc3s5h (talk) 00:15, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Could you kindly explain why you reverted my edits yesterday? My Chemical Romance is known all arround the world as MCR and my chem. They even uses the names themselves.

Besides that: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCR and https://nl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=My_chem&redirect=no say the same. So not sure what is wrong with it? FakeYourDeath (talk) 05:32, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry that was a mistake--Pasleim (talk) 08:25, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Kreditinstitut[edit]

Hi Pasleim, you reverted this change but Kreditinstitut is the correct translation for financial institution. The Finanzinstut page only leads to a redirect. Friafternoon (talk) 08:53, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please see that there is another item credit institution (Q730038) which is a subclass of financial institution (Q650241). This corresponds to the defintions of Duden:
  • Kreditinstitut: Unternehmen, das Kreditgeschäfte betreibt [8]
  • Finanzinstitut: Unternehmen, das Geld- und Kreditgeschäfte betreibt [9]
So Kreditinstitut subclass of Finanzinstitut makes sense but Kreditinstitut subclass of Kreditinstitut does not. --Pasleim (talk) 09:58, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is no wikipedia article for 'Finanzinstitut', nor is there one for 'credit institution'. Ok, there are slight differences between the definition of Kreditinstitut and Financial institution as insurance companies are financial institutions, but not necessarily Kreditinstitut but as a general translation it works as people would expect, unless you go into the nitty gritty of legal definitions in which case there is probably no translation. Is there any reason for splitting the hairs between Finanzinstitut and Kreditinstitut i.e. is there a large number of companies in one category not in the other? I don't think so. Friafternoon (talk) 10:51, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We can't merge Finanzinstitut with Kreditinstitut as multiple Wikipedias have articles about both, e.g. the Swedish Wikipedia sv:Kreditinstitut, sv:Finansinstitut. That means we need to have two items and so we need to do the differentiation between Kreditinstitut and Finanzinstitut. --Pasleim (talk) 11:00, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The two Swedish articles are basically stubs. The other languages with two articles are Russian, Lithuanian, Polish and Hungarian (I think), none of which have particularly well-developed financial markets. I don't claim to know for sure but I doubt there is any real difference between Kreditinstitut and Finanzinstitut in any of these languages, or in German, despite what the Duden says. The German article also says that Kreditinstitut is a Geldinstitut which would seem to include the Finanzinstitut definition. Are there meaningful examples of Finanzinstituts that are not Kreditinstituts? If not, there is really no difference and the definitions should be merged. Friafternoon (talk) 12:01, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I just checked the Duden online and the definitions it gives are: "Unternehmen, das Kreditgeschäfte betreibt (z. B. Bank, Sparkasse)" and "Unternehmen, das Geld- und Kreditgeschäfte betreibt; Bank". So a Finanzinstitut is also defined as a bank.Friafternoon (talk) 12:17, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
According to articles from "bad-developed financial markets" stock exchange (Q11691) and investment fund (Q4200541) are both subclasses of financial institution (Q650241) but not financial institution (Q650241). --Infovarius (talk) 17:53, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The nationality of the authors doesn't matter, as long as those articles exist we won't and we can't merge the items. --Pasleim (talk) 23:03, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I fix all items in the list. Could you regenerate this report again? The items like Q19192435 (disambig) and footwear (Q161928) (shoes itself) should be listed in the white list? -- Sergey kudryavtsev (talk) 12:48, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Constraint violation Ausstellungsraum - Ort[edit]

Hallo Pasleim, Du weißt doch bestimmt, was hier falsch ist.

--Pasleim (talk) 08:36, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Would there be an update for User:Pasleim/Connectivity today? Thanks. --Tiyigain (talk) 09:14, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There was an upate today. Sometimes it takes more time to generate the list but I don't know the reasons for it. --Pasleim (talk) 22:47, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Eigth [sic] Waterloo Road[edit]

Hello, Pasleim! I've just seen that you undid an edition of mine. Here the problem is the spelling (eight is the number 8, and eighth is 8.°, but *eigth is nothing). In this particular case, the right spelling is "eighth" with -GHTH ending (not "*eigth series of Waterloo Road" with -GTH ending), as it can be seen in the English article, which starts "The eighth series of the British television drama series Waterloo Road began...". That was the reason of my edition. Thanks a lot for reading this message. Best wishes!--Alpinu (talk) 20:30, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No german link on the en:Eclipse page[edit]

See my message on Talk:Q141022. I added a German language link between en:Eclipse and de:Eklipse, but you reverted my edits on the ground that "keine WP-Artikel mit Begriffsklärungsseiten vermischen". I did try to link to 2 other relevant German articles de:Sonnenfinsternis and de:Okkulation but they were both already linked to other English articles. I guess it would also not be possible to link en:Eclipse to de:Finsternis because this article is also a disambiguation page.

At this stage there are dozens of other languages linked to en:Eclipse but no German link. Based on my explanation in the eclipse (Q141022) discussion page, Please suggest an alternative German wiki link to the English page en:Eclipse. --Rougieux (talk) 11:01, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hi Pasleim, you recently uploaded images from it.wikipedia and pl.wikipedia [13]. Thanks alot for this, it was about 1% of all the images on Wikidata :). I have expanded the pl.wikipedia category and it holds another 2500 pages with images that might be usefull [14]. Could you have a look again? All the best, Taketa (talk) 12:47, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done Note that it takes some days until the category on plwiki is completely updated. --Pasleim (talk) 16:54, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks you very much :). These categories tend to go at their own speed indeed. All the best, Taketa (talk) 18:09, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pasleim, would it be possible that your bot upload the 1970 images in this category from id.wikipedia? id:Kategori:Local image but no image on Wikidata. PS: Let me know if these requests are not wanted, it is hard for me to tell your mood about them. All the best, Taketa (talk) 18:13, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
done. You're welcomed to put more requests, it costs me maximum a minute to start the bot. --Pasleim (talk) 19:06, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional character[edit]

It's not possible to say that Fictional character is both a fictional analog of person and a subclass of it when the whole point was to make the hierarchies disjoint ... the constraint system should use the fictional analog of statement to make the constraint on fictional characters similar to those on person.

Otherwise the results of the query Wikidata Query or derivative would return fictional characters. TomT0m (talk) 19:53, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why do we need disjoint hierarchies? You can use this Wikidata Query to get only humans. --Pasleim (talk) 20:11, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Because Donald Duck is a lot of things, but not a person ? If you need an item for this, I would prefer you to create something like fictional or real person. But if I look, for example at the definition of the personne term in french, in no way this refers to a fiction person. This is why. TomT0m (talk) 20:24, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Donald Duck can be a person, why not? It depends of course of the definition of a person but the French description on person (Q215627) does not really add restrictions. My problem with two disjoint hierarchies is mainly that you can't always tell if an entity is real or fictional, e.g. what is Robin Hood (Q122634)? Having a superclass person (Q215627) which combines real und fictional world helps in such cases as you don't have to necessary to decide for one or the other. --Pasleim (talk) 08:21, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There could totally be several article for Robin Hood (Q122634). One for the historical figure, if there is one, and one for him as a fictional character, linked by inspired by (P941) View with SQID, for example, if relevant, I don't know if there is a real counterpart of the fictional charater. In that case there would be two items, and it is probably the solution we must adopt, otherwise the item is not really precise. Overwise Robin Hood is definitely fictional. TomT0m (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I see. So what will be the difference between person (Q215627) and human (Q5)? --Pasleim (talk) 11:01, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I quote english WIkipedia A person is a being, such as a human, that has certain capacities or attributes constituting personhood, which in turn is defined differently by different authors in different disciplines, and by different cultures in different times and places. It's a philosophical matter. But a person is a being, according to this definition. A fictional character is not a being. I guess the ancient could discuss on whether or not Gods where person, and nowdays we can discuss whether or not non human animals, or aliens could be persons :) I guess the only things we are pretty sure are persons nowdays are humans. TomT0m (talk) 19:58, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So the defintion of a person is quite vague and I guess the defintion of being too. At least the German translation "Sein" can acutally used for everything you wish, you just have to choose the defintion of the right philosopher. BTW: the English WP page on fictional character (Q95074) starts with A character (or fictional character) is a person [...]. --Pasleim (talk) 22:34, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Publication date(P577) on Fluxbox(Q131522)[edit]

Hi! Sorry, is clear to me that the 'Publication date (P577)' property is dependent on the latest 'version (P348)' there. But for the moment can not be obtained from es.wikipedia when the value is nested. Is it possible to put back as an attribute for viewing in es.wikipedia?
-

On cawiki there is a function which returns values of qualifiers, see ca:Mòdul:Wikidata. Isn't it possible to copy this function to es:Módulo:Wikidata? --Pasleim (talk) 20:04, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm puzzled by this edit of your bot. The GND seems to be perfectly fine. There are other GNDs for this person, but this is the only one that actually lists a publication. Why was it removed? --Randykitty (talk) 11:30, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Same here --Ghuron (talk) 11:36, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No these GND records [15], [16] are not fine. These are undifferentiated records and on Wikidata:WikiProject Authority control#Discussion there was a clear consensus to remove them all. --Pasleim (talk) 12:31, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so basically what Gymel, Kolja21 and Vladimir Alexiev is trying to say is that undifferentiated record is similair to wikipedia disambiguation, so potentially it can mix information about more than one person in one record. I'm not sure I 100% agree with this logic, but from the other standpoint it looks like can get 0 bit of usable information from undifferentiated record. So there is no point in having those claims here. Good to know, thanks! --Ghuron (talk) 14:04, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ghuron: Well, more like a disambiguation page without the links. Or a list article without the list ;-) Anyway, these kind of authority records are not dis-ambiguating but rather the opposite. They only state that there exists an unspecified number of relevant persons using the form of name given. -- Gymel (talk) 14:20, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
To Ghuron, Gymel, Kolja21: I'm glad if "there was a clear consensus to remove them all" though I didn't notice it :-). This: Wikidata:WikiProject Authority control#Match_Persons_not_Disambiguation_Pages is a new section discussing this issue, with link to a scattered discussion and a request to Magnus re Mix-n-Match. Please comment there (if just with  Support) so this can have more weight. Thanks! --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 15:05, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just excuse me for reverting your change in Édifice Price (Q373143). Legally Édifice Price (Q373143) is only a building located in Old Quebec (Q2114279). So there in special protection about the building. This is a problem of the nature of Quebec cultural heritage directory ID (P633) (and also probably Flemish Heritage Object ID (P1764)) to have inventoried buildings within the protected buildings. I was tinking about only keep heritage designation (P1435) blank. Maybe a another solution will be to create a more general listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage (Q16739336), like "inventoried property" or "property within a inventory"? --Fralambert (talk) 20:20, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Q 191066 and Cat: 7470156[edit]

For Link to commons to work, it should be mentionned on main article: (Q191066), not in category: (Q7470156). Thanks--DDupard (talk) 18:41, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It was decided in this request for comment that categories go with categories and articles only with galleries. Moreover it is also a convention that on Wikidata we link only items together of the same namespace. To do cross-namespace linking, you can use the property Commons category (P373). --Pasleim (talk) 19:39, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah thank you Pasleim for giving an explanation; At least there is one thank you. Am at a loss on how to use the cross name linking with Commons category (P373). Could I ask you to fix it for the article? Please.--DDupard (talk) 07:49, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Property proposal[edit]

Hi Pasleim,

Thanks for commenting on the proposal at here.

While I tend to agree with your point of view, generally the generic approaches are difficult to implement and follow up. Given the mere extent of DNB (30000 items) and the potential problems all these items are start creating (by being mixed with P31:Q5), I think it's worth moving forward with this approach. Depending on the outcome, we could either keep it or make it more generic. Thus, I'd appreciate if you would re-consider your vote. --- Jura 05:11, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Jura. Can you explain the problems with the more generic implementation? --Pasleim (talk) 13:10, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I know we could use described by source (P1343) for everything, including IMDB, but it just makes usage checks and constraint definition more difficult. --- Jura 14:41, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't say we should use described by source (P1343). I suggest to create a property which unifies #DNB entry at Wikisource, #Catholic Encyclopedia entry at Wikisource, Brittanica entry at Wikisource etc. With that the constraints proposed in the discussions will still work but we are not limited to a fixed selection of reference works. --Pasleim (talk) 18:57, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to check for a given reference work, I don't think you can do that with a more general property. I suppose we could just wait until someone does find and implement a solution. --- Jura 11:46, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
you can. WDQ as well as most of Module:Wikidata (Q12069631) do support qualifiers. Addings qualifiers through the UI was simplified in the last weeks and mass adding of qualifiers is possible with quick statements. So I'm not sure for which implementation you're waiting. --Pasleim (talk) 14:30, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really interested, but maybe someone else is. --- Jura 15:35, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Topic's main category should be used in a direct one-to-one mapping (and I believe the constraints require this also). So e.g. Passover topic's main category Category:Passover is a correct statement. Passover topic's main category Category:Jewish holidays is not, because Passover is one of many Jewish holidays. --Izno (talk) 14:58, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Vorlage:IMDb[edit]

Auf Englisch is eh schwer.

Wär das was? Zumindest für den Augenblick als Übergang? Könntest Du so etwas bauen?

Viele Grüße -- Suster Cro (talk) 16:10, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.
Viele Grrüße, Suster Cro (talk) 17:50, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
--Pasleim (talk) 15:29, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agree, the French sitelink on Noblesse (Q3066215) is wrongly placed, but with your edits [17] you haven't fixed it at all. Thanks for this list. Some of the entries can be surly merged by a bot, e.g. if the item has not a single statement or if the only statement is instance of (P31)Wikimedia category (Q4167836). To indicate that Rod Moran (Q19519450) is an author, you can use occupation (P106)=author (Q482980). The property author (P50) is thought to be used on items about books to relate them with the author. --Pasleim (talk) 13:54, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for that - as I am not bot editing - but manually produced edits, it is useful to get the info like that - thanks for your time and help sats (talk) 14:01, 18 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Should we replace Wikidata:Do not merge with different from (P1889)?--GZWDer (talk) 10:31, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Technically it's easy for me to replace Wikidata:Do not merge with different from (P1889). However, I don't think we should use different from (P1889) on items which every human user can easly distinguish. For example, I don't think someone will confuse Entoria (Q10484942) with Entoria (Q1136019) so putting different from (P1889) on them would be done only because of the current version of my script. --Pasleim (talk) 15:49, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I prepare the centralization of data on cycling in different Wikipedia to Wikidata. Could you tell me if I do a good use of the properties on the list User:Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick/Cyclisme ? Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 17:19, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your effort. The page already looks quite good, I only did some smaller changes. The only thing I'm unsure is the usage of has part(s) (P527) on courses cycliste, e.g. , because courses cycliste are classes and not instances. Maybe User:TomT0m can help? --Pasleim (talk) 07:39, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Pasleim, Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick: You're totally right, makes much more sense. This is a periodical competitions, each of the actual races are instances of this competition. But in a similar case, things like using part of makes a lot of sense of course, its an event on both side. Did not check the rest of the model :) TomT0m (talk) 16:43, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
--Pasleim (talk) 09:12, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 09:42, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
--Pasleim (talk) 22:04, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Revert?[edit]

Is there some specific reason why you made this revert - Special:Diff/219013988? The template has been completely remade and is no longer an analogue of other templates (now it is meant to mark just templates under construction). --Martynas Patasius (talk) 20:39, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I created a new item for this template, see Template:Under construction (Q20047206) --Pasleim (talk) 21:55, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Birth- and death date errors[edit]

I'm curious about these erroneous edits. Mind if I revert them? Do I need to list this somewhere? Gabbe (talk) 18:39, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The data is taken from http://d-nb.info/gnd/118673076/about/lds. Do you have any rationals that this data is wrong? --Pasleim (talk) 21:57, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. http://d-nb.info/gnd/118673076 lists the correct dates, namely "Lebensdaten: 1876-1957". But its rdf says otherwise. Very strange... Gabbe (talk) 07:53, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes. If you google Constantin Brancusi every source I can find indicates that he was born in 1876 and died in 1957. Gabbe (talk) 08:10, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed the rank on those statements now. Gabbe (talk) 06:29, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Report[edit]

Hi Pasleim,

Would you have this report run every couple of hours? Eventually I will try to include the update for test1 that mirrors en:Category:2015 deaths. I tried to do the join directly, but it's either too slow or I didn't join the tables correctly. --- Jura 23:19, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

sure, can do that.--Pasleim (talk) 21:53, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the code a bit so that test1 isn't needed. --Pasleim (talk) 23:22, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent. Thanks for your help and improvement. Let's see how it goes. --- Jura 06:46, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to edit the configuration, but apparently, you'd need to do that. As a first step, I included ru and zh. It works on quarry. --- Jura 09:00, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
updated it. --Pasleim (talk) 17:17, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Seems to work. Somehow Q179466 is on it, but it seems to be a bug in ruwiki. --- Jura 18:10, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I added another 20 languages (the ones with 150+ item in the category). I also added 5 that I thought would have no overlap with the others, but it seems that rarely any article appears in more than 1 language. There are another 35 languages with 10+ items in the category. --- Jura 18:56, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Seems that update stopped. Did I add too many languages? --- Jura 21:56, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if it's because of too many languages. I'll investigte it. --Pasleim (talk) 22:10, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing it. It seems to run just fine, but the data seems older than before. Is the server it's using lagging or is it caching? --- Jura 14:05, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's not caching but before the code needed around 3 minutes to execute, now it's almost 2 hours. I'll try to optimze the querries. --Pasleim (talk) 15:53, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's odd. On Quarry it takes just a bit more than a minute. --- Jura 16:06, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I got it below one minute. --- Jura 17:27, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We could drop the check on the sortkeys and just filter them in the item list. --- Jura 18:23, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It runs just fine since yesterday. Thanks for all your help. I checked all remaining potential categories (60+), but only 4 seem worthwhile (39 of 60 additional pages). As the script already reads all listed pages, could it extract the label as well and add it as a 4th parameter? --- Jura 16:43, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done --Pasleim (talk) 22:22, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think it's sufficiently stable to be announced?

"A new report lists people categorized as dead in Wikipedia, but lacking Property:P570. It's updated several times per day. There is currently some backlog from the Japanese, Arabic, Polish and Ukrainian Wikipedia. Entries updated first in Wikidata wont appear in the report."

Above a short description. Thanks for your extensive help. --- Jura 06:46, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it's pretty stable now. You can announce it if you wish. --Pasleim (talk) 17:29, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It might be worth watching how the data goes for a week or so. I will try to restrain myself and not update the items ;) --- Jura 22:19, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Following a request in the forum, I added a display of the numbers to the report. Would you update the config accordingly? --- Jura 14:58, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

done --Pasleim (talk) 15:33, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please, don't just delete information. Replace it with appropriate new properties. -- Vlsergey (talk) 07:45, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The (obsolete) short name (P743) claim was replaced by a short name (P1813) claim and moved to Union Matematica Argentina. Revista (Q17771532). The description just doesn't meet our guidlines. As I don't speak Russian, I can't add a proper description. --Pasleim (talk) 08:31, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
1. The short name of this was not part of Union Matematica Argentina. Revista (Q17771532), but part of Eduardo H. Zarantonello (1918–2010) (Q17771330). It is describes how Union Matematica Argentina. Revista (Q17771532) specified in and only in Eduardo H. Zarantonello (1918–2010) (Q17771330). Other items can have different value of short name (P1813) applied to the same source Union Matematica Argentina. Revista (Q17771532). 2. If you have better description -- feel free to change to it. Not just remove the one you didn't like, because you think it doesn't fit guideline. -- Vlsergey (talk) 09:25, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
A description on Wikidata is a short phrase (1). Tirao, J. Eduardo H. Zarantonello (1918-2010) // Rev. Un. Mat. Argentina — Buenos Aires: UMA, 2011. — Vol. 52-1. — P. i-vi. — ISSN 0041-6932, 1669-9637 is not a phrase, it's a list of statements. --Pasleim (talk) 17:31, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a list of statements, it's a short and most precise description of particular item according to GOST R 7.0.5-2008 (Q19147272), that helps to understand what this item is and distinguish this item among other items with the same name published in other places or types. -- Vlsergey (talk) 17:41, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Anyway, if you have better and shorter description -- feel free to provide. May be "статья J. Tirao вышедная в Rev. Un. Mat. Argentina в 2011 году" sounds better to you -- okay, put it in. But for me such description is less convenient. -- Vlsergey (talk) 17:46, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Vlsergey, the shortest description would be „obituary“. --Succu (talk) 17:52, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So, how to distinguish this obituary from the same one, by the same author, but published in different journal? -- Vlsergey (talk) 18:00, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm okay with статья J. Tirao вышедная в Rev. Un. Mat. Argentina в 2011 году as there might be multiple obituaries. But do you write вышедная or вышедшая? --Pasleim (talk) 18:04, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Describe it: Obituary by J. Tirao in Revista de la Unión Matemática Argentina. --Succu (talk) 18:12, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Pasleim. Could you please take a look at the issue I have with setSitelink? Suggestion: Bot may automatically create new items for articles not linked to Wikidata in categories listed in Category:2015 deaths (Q9722104) before generating the result. There're nothing inappropriate for Wikidata (e.g. soft redirects) in these categories, and creating these items makes this page more useful and makes duplicates more easy to find.--GZWDer (talk) 07:03, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to that but in the next days/weeks I may not have time to do so. --Pasleim (talk) 11:16, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just a side note on this: I had tried to add to the report the number of items that needed creation, but found that there are too many stray items in the Wikipedia category table to give a meaningful number. When actually creating pages, Magnus' item creator correctly filters them. BTW, once in a while, articles are just unconnected to existing items made for other languages. --- Jura 11:21, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate paintings[edit]

Hi Pasleim, I noticed you're producing all sorts of statistics and useful reports. I wonder if you can help me with something. To each painting (Q3305213) we add the inventory number (P217) qualified with the collection (P195) (example). The inventory number is unique in a collection so combined with the collection it should be unique on Wikidata. It's possible for a painting to have multiple inventory numbers if the painting is or has been part of multiple collections. I would like to have a report listing the different Q items that have the same inventory + collection combination. This report would be very useful for finding possible duplicate painting items. I hope you can help me out here. Multichill (talk) 13:27, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to that but in the next days/weeks I may not have time to do so. --Pasleim (talk) 11:16, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Great! No rush, would just be nice to have. I'm fairly sure I imported some duplicate paintings so it should give some results. Multichill (talk) 17:07, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
done, see Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Duplicate paintings. Tell me when you need an update of the list. --Pasleim (talk) 22:58, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

suggestion[edit]

Hello Pasleim, I noticed your page User:Pasleim/Items for deletion/Category. Perhaps you can make such a page for Q11266439 and Q13406463 as well? Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 13:44, 28 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

created User:Pasleim/Items for deletion/Template. For list items I can't apply my code as Wikipedia lists are in the same namespace as articles. --Pasleim (talk) 11:13, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, nice, thank you. Lymantria (talk) 16:09, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm rewriting {{Tr peoplelist 8}} using Lua as well as redesigning this page. The draft is at Wikidata:Sandbox.

Benefits:

  • Less expensive function call (only one call per item)
  • Names are displayed in the language of the related wiki. In the orginal page this display nowhere and only Qid is shown in there're no English label.

Note and todo:

  • "Age" and "?" column is not displayed and I'm going to make them tooltips.
  • Currently P39, P214 and P345 is not supported and I'm going to add them.
  • I'm going to make "Nationality" column shorter by replacing the names of countries by ISO 3166-1 codes.

--GZWDer (talk) 19:02, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The current solution was designed to work with more lines in mind. I added additional ones from the current page history. It seems that it only displays the first 500.
Age and ? are sortable columns to quality control the data.
I'm not sure if you are aware of Module:MemoryTest. --- Jura 20:31, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Jura1: Don't need to make these two columns sortable as their orders are the same as Born, Added and P570 column.--GZWDer (talk) 01:33, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorting doesn't seem to work in your sample and displaying the actual age seems more readable.
"?" is the difference between date added and p570 (or today), so sorting is different from any other column (have a look at Special:Permanentlink/223582697). --- Jura 03:07, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Grüezi![edit]

Hi!

--Pasleim (talk) 08:10, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Location[edit]

Hi, you reverted an edit of mine. It was tagged with reCh [1.0], I am just wondering why since there is no reason in the comment. Am I not supposed to add location? or is it the source? it was Hoovers, should I use the official website of a company or if you could just guide me to a rule about that I would Appreciate it. Jadeslair (talk) 23:21, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A company itself doesn't have a location, it's a legal person. If you however want to add the location of the headquarter of the company, you can use the property headquarters location (P159). To add locations for other geographical objects, properties like located in the administrative territorial entity (P131) location (P276) or P969 (P969) are suitable. instance of (P31) should only be used to define what the item is, e.g. it is a company, it is a city, it is a human. --Pasleim (talk) 08:20, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

TeX string (P1993) is ready. --Tobias1984 (talk) 09:52, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Administrative territorial entity[edit]

You added P31=administrative territorial entity (Q56061) to many items. Could you improve that like I did here: [20], [21] ? All claims P31:Q56061 should probably be changed to instances of subclasses of Q56061. 80.134.89.98 21:15, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that these claims should be improved but the problem is much broader and not administrative territorial entity (Q56061) specific. It applies to many domains, e.g. there are many claims P31:Q386724 or P31:Q43229. All of these claims should be changed to more specific values. --Pasleim (talk) 20:38, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Wikimedia-Geschichts-Artikel"[edit]

Hello Pasleim, your bot added the de-label "Wikimedia-Geschichts-Artikel" to a lot of items. Actually, this is less helpful than having no label at all. Could you tell your bot to remove this label in all items? Jonathan Groß (talk) 16:57, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The bot only added it as description, not as label. But why should it be less helpful than having no description at all? People are also adding "Wikimedia-Liste", "Wikimedia-Kategorie", "Wikimedia-Vorlage" as description. --Pasleim (talk) 20:46, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, yes, I meant description. "Wikimedia-Liste" etc. are acceptable, but for actual articles, we should be more strict. Could a script overwrite these generic descriptions and add more appropriate ones? Maybe with the help of categories? Jonathan Groß (talk) 17:17, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What are in your opinion more appropriate descriptions, e.g. for history of physics (Q212881) or history of the Americas (Q690256)? --Pasleim (talk) 22:53, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think in these cases, the description is accurate. I just searched for "Wikimedia-Geschichts-Artikel" on Wikidata, and I think most of the items fit this description. I guess you can disregard my request now.
Before I wrote you, I found this description here: History of Science Society (Q1621074). This is incorrect, as the item describes an academic society for the history of science. Then I searched for the term "Wikimedia-Geschichts-Artikel" (which is unusual in German) and saw a lot of items, and without checking further I thought that most of the items wouldn't be accurately described by this, too. But I think now that I was wrong.
Sorry for wasting your time. Have a nice weekend! Jonathan Groß (talk) 06:31, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
How about "history of topic"? I tend to agree that the reference to Wikimedia isn't ideal (contrary to items for templates, categories or modules). --- Jura 06:35, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"history of topic" would just duplicate the label. --Pasleim (talk) 11:32, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I meant literally "history of topic". --- Jura 11:42, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Previous year[edit]

Hi Pasleim,

Following a request by Hsarrazin, I adapted the code for 2014 here. Would you be so kind to set it up to run with the current one? Once the list is shorter, a daily update would probably be sufficient. I also added Commons to the current one. --- Jura 05:41, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

set up. Sadly the list is quite long. --Pasleim (talk) 12:24, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I hadn't thought it would be that long, though I had done a query back to 1900 for some languages and came up with about 100,000. Hsarrazin is keen to have similar lists for more years. --- Jura 12:52, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's already much shorter! BTW, somehow the update of both has stopped. Could you re-activate it? --- Jura 08:49, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As Hsarrazin already went through all the Roman script ones, would you activate this one as well? I will have to do the formatting for the summary page once it's generated. --- Jura 04:57, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, thank you both... I will also run through the cyrillic script ones, since they are no problem to me (10 years Russian) ;)
It would be nice to find someone to do Arabic, Farsi and Indian languages, though :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 11:41, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Twitter[edit]

Thank you for your edits to move Twitter user names to Twitter (X) username (P2002). However, in edits like this, you apply the value "@trevorbmbagency". It should be "trevorbmbagency", with out the "@", in order to match the canonical formatter URL (P1630). Note also Twitter (X) username (P2002)'s Wikidata property example (P1855). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:26, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thanks so much Pasleim! :) I think it's ok to migrate the values as they are though, it's not making the data any worse than it already is. Any weird values will show up in the constraint report anyway. I have that page on my watchlist and have been checking it for format violations, so I'll fix them when they show up. - Nikki (talk) 04:06, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I just copied the values from website account on (P553) without checking the validity. For the formatter URL it makes no difference if you include the @ or not. https://twitter.com/@trevorbmbagency and https://twitter.com/trevorbmbagency are both valid. I would even tend to add the @ to all values as it is a standard when writing Twitter usernames. --Pasleim (talk) 17:11, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't put the @ in the username, I see it as a symbol that is usually written in front of the username, not a part of the username itself, e.g. https://twitter.com/@trevorbmbagency works, but the links on that page are all https://twitter.com/trevorbmbagency (so it's not part of the canonical URL). When you hover over usernames, the @ isn't included in the linked text either. - Nikki (talk) 17:59, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Automatically cut direct wikidata URL in Gadget-Merge.js[edit]

Hello. Could you please implement in MediaWiki:Gadget-Merge.js follow enhancement ?

  • When you need to merge items, you have to copy wikidata URL and cut it to entity identifier. This is a little bit annoying in case you have a lot of merge pairs.
  • It seems it would be useful if user could just copy wikidata URL into field "Merge with:" and gadget automatically cut URL from "https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q12292655" to "Q12292655". --Movses (talk) 08:43, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'll have a look at it but I'm not familiar at all with gadget programming.--Pasleim (talk) 17:16, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PLbot[edit]

Hallo Pasleim,

Pywikibot1[edit]

Did you run the script two times? If the qualifier is already present, it can't be added a second time. --Pasleim (talk) 20:50, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. It works!! Many thanks! Xaris333 (talk) 20:59, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to do this with multiple qualifiers? I mean to have more than one qualifier in qualifier = pywikibot.Claim(repo, 'P1350'). Or is there a way to do this for multiple items? Maybe items that are listed in a txt file? Xaris333 (talk) 21:46, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's straightforward to extend the code for adding multiple qualifiers to multiple items, however, you need some basic knowledge about python programming. If you know python, running a bot is much easier. --Pasleim (talk) 10:03, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Thanks anyway... Xaris333 (talk) 14:06, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy Wilde[edit]

Hello,

Your (bot) edit here, there are 3 (as far as I can tell) Jimmy Wildes on en Wiki. 2 footballers with qualifiers "footballer" and "footballer, born 1904" plus the boxer Jimmy Wilde. Is it correct that the bot has removed the disambiguation from the en label? Thanks. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 08:06, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The disambiguation bracket should not be part of the label, that's why I removed it. To distinguish Jimmy Wilde (Q20730771) from other Jimmy Wildes, I improved the description. --Pasleim (talk) 10:08, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks... I misread what had been changed...I thought the en.wiki link had been altered. Eagleash (talk) 14:10, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Updating template and category labels[edit]

If you run your bot to update template and category labels again, could you exclude instance of (P31) Wikimedia user language category (Q20010800) and instance of (P31) Wikimedia user language template (Q19842659)? These are pages based on language codes which (more or less) follow a standard naming pattern and are also used by the Babel extension. As part of trying to identify and clean up the thousands of items, I've been trying to use the most correct code as the label, so when the label doesn't match the local wiki, it suggests the local wiki is using the wrong code and should consider renaming their templates/categories (sometimes it's an invalid code, other times it's actually the code of a different language, which can lead to conflicts if some users are using templates and others are using the Babel extension).

It seems that the bot always uses Wikipedia names too, even if the label matches the name in a non-Wikipedia project. I think it would be better to consider all of the pages for a language and only update the label if it doesn't match any of them. Preferring the Wikipedia label over the names used by other projects makes it seem like we think they're less important or something.

- Nikki (talk) 21:37, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for these inputs. I will consider it the next time I update category labels. --Pasleim (talk) 07:35, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

--Pasleim (talk) 08:21, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Person properties[edit]

Hello, [23]

Where should I put it, since not having it on the template makes it useless (and recent discussion on the project chat about its usage).

Thanks for helping :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 09:39, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think a property is useless if it is not on a navbox template, there are many other ways to access property pages. Especially we shouldn't confuse users by listing field of this occupation (P425) together with person properties because P425 should never be used on person items. P425 is btw already on Template:Occupation codes properties, don't know if more is necessary. --Pasleim (talk) 10:05, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
oh, sorry.
I did not understand that field of this occupation (P425) could not be used on persons from this discussion on the Chat room.
maybe something is not very clear with that, since, obviously, some people understood very differently.

Suggestion to revert the John D'Silva entry[edit]

Please revert the changes you have made to Q6228086 and revert it to the 13:05, 17 August 2015 entry bcoz what you wanted to do is actually John D'Silva(disambiguation). Please do so at the earliest.  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Axv4444 (talk • contribs).

An item shouldn't change the meaning. As the disambiguation page on enwiki was moved, the correct action would have been to replace the sitelink on John D'Silva (Q6228086) and create a new item for the actor. --Pasleim (talk) 15:04, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please[edit]

Please stop to invent own translations like this. That counts as de:WP:KTF#Begriffsfindung and is undesired. --Matthiasb (talk) 12:14, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Wikidata is an own project and does not have de:WP:KTF#Begriffsfindung as a guidline.
  2. historic district (Q15243209) is refering to historic districts in all countries, so it could also be used for locations in Germany. Copying the English label makes therefore no sense. For historic districts defined by the United States Department of Interior we have the item historic district in the United States (Q1620797) with the German label "Historic District". --Pasleim (talk) 15:19, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pardon? Surely the description appearing there has to correspond the German WP guidelines, as that ist the default text appearing within the German WP as default when including a Wikidata item. You cannot think out your own translations; actually that is one of the reason the German WP community is utterly opposed to Wikidata and many editors are removing Wikidata links within articles all the time. It is very clear that the German language Wikidata description of an item has to be identic to its German Wikipedia article lemma (actually that should apply for all language, but I con't care for them). Every other solution is non-sense. Furthermore, the German Wikipedia never ever translates notions into German if the translation is not well-established, e.g. though en:w:village can be easliy translated to de:w:Dorf we won't do so if we're talking about incorporated villages in New York, but have de:w:Village (Vereinigte Staaten) instead. Even translating John Doe House into John-Doe-Haus would be an undesired begriffsfindung, except for terms which are well-known, as the Weißes Haus (White House) or Eiffelturm (Tour Eiffel) and the like.
What you mean in our dispute, might be, in some cases but not generally, a Gebäudeensemble or Denkmalensemble, in some cases also historischer Stadtkern (which corresponds to a category in German WP, Category:Historic districts (Q8515712)) but in no case historisches Viertel which in each case refers to an area in the center of the town which was build long ago but does not need necessarily to be protected as a historic monument and would never exist outside the very town center). However, and here the problem does not close to an end, the correspondending main article de:w:Historischer Stadtkern is already connected to old town (Q676050). To some extent Q676050 and Q15243209 are redundant. What can definitely be said: The earlier item has interwiki links to articles definitely describing different things. ES and EN means historic sections of a town, not necessarily the center or core, while DE definitely refers to the historic core. It's almost impossible to compare all the different terms in preservation in different countries as each country has its own laws with its own definitions and glossars. --Matthiasb (talk) 18:25, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
About labels: labels are never sourced, so according to the Meinungsbild in ther German Wikipedia you should never display labels in that wiki. For sourced "labels" use official name (P1448), name in native language (P1559), native label (P1705) etc. Labels in Wikidata also don't have to be identical with the Wikipedia article according to Help:Label or otherwise we couldn't have 5,700,000 German labels in Wikidata vs. 2,100,000 lemmata in German Wikipedia.
About Q15243209: We don't translate de:w:Village (Vereinigte Staaten) but we do translate de:w:Dorf. Agree. So we don't translate Q1620797 but we do translate Q15243209! And if you don't agree with my German translation, why did you add an English text as German label? English is not the defining language of this item. It has a French label "district historique", a Spanish label "distrito histórico" and labels in five more languages. Why has the German label to be in English? --Pasleim (talk) 18:10, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PLbot mystery[edit]

Pasleim, your PLbot apparently apparently imported Persondata vandalism from the English Wikipedia in one case: [28]. Thought you should know. How involved were you in the porting of Persondata from the English language Wikipedia to Wikidata? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 21:40, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The import of all short descriptions from English Wikipedia was done by request on Wikidata:Bot requests/Archive/2014/10#Import Persondata from English Wikipedia --Pasleim (talk) 21:45, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pasleim, I'm methodically working my way through categories of Olympic swimmers by country, and this is the only example of obvious vandalism which I have found in over 1500 manually reviewed Wikidata profiles. That said, the linked discussion/analysis regarding Persondata was incredibly superficial and misleading -- there remains a very large amount of accurate and usable information from Persondara that has never been transferred to Wikidata. Having manually transferred usable and accurate information from Persondata to Wikidata for over 1000 articles in the last three months, I can say that with some authority. Apparently no one wants to do the work required . . . . 22:58, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
We actually had a "Wikidatian in residence" telling us not to import Persondata .. --- Jura 06:08, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I know. It's really kind of bizarre. We're about to delete 10 years of accumulated Persondata with only minimal bot efforts to transfer the Persondata brief descriptions to Wikidata. The Julian/Gregorian dates issue was easily overcome for 20th Century biographies and those from countries and years where/when the modern calendar was already in use. As far as I can tell, no effort was made to transfer alternate name forms -- birth names, maiden names, married names, stage names, nicknames, etc. It's a lost opportunity to improve Wikidata and recruit dozens of new editors to Wikidata. I removed them because a bot added the inverse claim to the disambiguation page. As I don't want edit wars with bots I removed both claims. However, I also don't think we should use disambiguation page as target of statements. What does it mean to say the capital of a volost is a disambiguation page? In Wikipedia communities might prefer disambiguation pages over redlinks but in Wikidata we should never use them. --Pasleim (talk) 07:06, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It means the same as in Wikipedias: that editor didn't know exactly which village is the target but s/he knows its name. Or that such village has no page/item yet. In any case s/he hopes that next editor will improve the statement, not delete it. --Infovarius (talk) 14:28, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Badge statistics[edit]

Hi! Noticed this page. How did you generated those lists? I just didn't found them in Wikidata tables. If it isn't public information [ :) ], then could you provide me some few lists, based on badge statistics? --Edgars2007 (talk) 07:59, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The list is created by looping through all pages linking to good article badge (Q17437798), featured article badge (Q17437796) etc. I can create more lists if it's possible with the same method. --Pasleim (talk) 08:46, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK then. Could you provide me a list of articles (with the most badges), that don't have link to Latvian Wikipedia? How much articles - well, as a "consumer" I would say - how much your resources allows - some 50-100 would be nice (for each type of badge), I think. I'm not interested in featured portal badge (Q17580674), only in those first three on your page. You also don't have to worry about formatting — it doesn't have to be pretty :)
At Latvian Wikipedia we have such list. Could you go through all those Wikidata items and check, IF item has good article badge (Q17437798) or featured article badge (Q17437796). Here I'm interested only if article in some language is featured or good, I don't care how much featured or good articles item has. If you would like to have better list (only Wikidata items), say it - will try to get them. Again - the list doesn't have to be pretty. --Edgars2007 (talk) 09:11, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Constraint type on manner of death (P1196)[edit]

Hy Pasleim,

Could you provide the reasoning to add elephant (Q7378) and lion (Q140) to the list of mandatory constraint type on manner of death (P1196)? I see that you add both in the past but i fail to understand why this is limited to only these 4 items. could we remove human (Q5), elephant (Q7378) and lion (Q140) and put something more broad such as mammal (Q7377)? I don't know how wikidata do this check but if the tree is respected mammal (Q7377) should include all current non fictional and make possible to and the manner of death (P1196) to more notable animals in the future, such as dogs or cats. But them how about parakeet, parrots etc... maybe double down and change to animal (Q729) would be preferable.

Any help would be appreciated. Carlos Porto (talk) 20:58, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The basic problem is that the constraint check system is based on subclass of (P279). However, for taxa we use parent taxon (P171), i.e. lion (Q140) is linked to mammal (Q7377) by parent taxon (P171) and not by subclass of (P279). As a consequence, there is at the moment no other solution than just adding all animals to the list of constraint type. --Pasleim (talk) 06:58, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Married name (?)[edit]

Pasleim, is there an existing parameter/claim for women's married names? If not, may we add one? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:50, 18 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't an existing property for married names, but you could use family name (P734) with qualifier start time (P580) the date of marriage. Or you can propose a new property on Wikidata:Property proposal/Person --Pasleim (talk) 08:18, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Pasleim. I have made a "Property proposal" to add such a property for women's married names. Your suggestion above is not a bad one, but more often than not we do not have the marriage date (or even year) for most of our subjects. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 08:54, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Missing property by # of sitelinks[edit]

Hi Pasleim,

Not sure if you have seen User:Jura1/test569, suggested by Multichill at Wikidata:Project_chat#Sitelinks_and_missing_P569.

While it might not be the most useful one, I like the general idea and I think it might be worth trying to set up a series of similar reports. Depending on the property, a few possible alternatives need to be filtered (for this I excluded the ones with P1317, but also P570).

If I try to prepare a series of reports, could you add them to your bot? --- Jura 08:18, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

yes sure --Pasleim (talk) 08:53, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Then let's try one. --- Jura 10:48, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for the update. Seems to work ±. --- Jura 21:31, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Would you update the code? I did a few changes. --- Jura 15:25, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, what would think of a tool that reads items and a property with the WDQ query (either URL or dedicated) and then writes the result back to the item (with todays date)? Weekly updates would probably do. I'm not entirely sure how to do the write part, but could do the py for the read part. The result could be used for charts. --- Jura 16:05, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Could you attempt to run it? I will try to find a way to simulate the database connection to test future changes. --- Jura 13:12, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata:Database reports/top missing properties by number of sitelinks/P345[edit]

I think you need to recheck the settings used to make this report. It also seems to include subclass of (P279) film (Q11424) and part of (P361) film (Q11424) which won't get an IMDB link very fast. For example cult film (Q219557) is a keyword on IMDB and doesn't have it's own id (at least not one that follows the constraints). And film frame (Q795160) is technical term and doesn't have it's own page on IMDB. I've checked these items, they don't have instance of (P31) film (Q11424) and it hasn't been deleted from these items in the last 48 hours. Mbch331 (talk) 21:33, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I noticed. My bad. Not sure why though. --- Jura 21:38, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Mbch331: For now, I added p31 to the list. --- Jura 22:02, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template tool[edit]

Hi Pasleim,

I gave it a try .. seems to work well. Thanks for building it!

To see what might happen, a simulation mode could help.

To use the output, it might be worth doing columns as follows:

  • Wikipedia page title
  • QID
  • wikidata label
  • current P31 claim(s) on QID
  • source value (raw)
  • converted value/QID
  • wikidata label if QID
  • constraint issues
  • upload result (or none in simulation mode)

Simulation mode could also work for unsupported datatypes .. this way one could upload them with another QuickStatements.

Still have to try "try to match target page even without wikisyntax" --- Jura 15:54, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For fields that are multivalue, the tool picks up only one value. --- Jura 08:08, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
added simulation mode. --Pasleim (talk) 22:47, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I tried to run it on s:Template:DNB12 field "wikipedia" for P921. Strings like "Sir Archibald Alison, 2nd Baronet" would link to "en:Sir Archibald Alison, 2nd Baronet". Obviously, that doesn't work, but if there was more output, I could use QuickStatement to add P1343 to that page. --- Jura 07:07, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, for the "contributor" field in the same template to be imported, it would need to match namespace 102 at Wikisource. --- Jura 09:21, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Crazy bot ;-)[edit]

Your bot is a bit broken: is removing a claim with sources to re-add it without sources. See for example [31], [32], [33], [34], [35]. Lugusto (talk) 16:21, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't readd the same claim. The previous claims were linking to disambiguation pages, e.g. English (Q182). I removed those and added proper claims pointing to items about languages, e.g. English (Q1860) --Pasleim (talk) 16:26, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I didn't noticed the different Q on edits. I will re-fix my reverts. Thanks Lugusto (talk) 16:34, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

harvesttemplates test[edit]

Hi! I'm trying to use your tool but I obtain always the error "Request Failed: parsererror, SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected end of data at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data". I've tryed different combinations, for debugging I write down one of them.

  • P373
  • it
  • Interprogetto
  • commons

Thanks --AlessioMela (talk) 18:22, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reporting it. It happens because P373 is heavily used on Wikidata. The single value constraint check fails to respond within a certain time and the tool crashes. --Pasleim (talk) 22:13, 26 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also having this problem with P17. Looking at the requests it does, the SPARQL query looks strange. Are you sure you didn't mean to use SELECT ?item (the item which has the P17 statement) and not SELECT ?value (the item used in the P17 statement)? If ?value is actually right, adding GROUP BY ?value would help because it currently returns a lot of duplicates (e.g. for P17, Q16 is returned 39942 times and returning only distinct rows takes the result from 388 MB to just 121 KB). - Nikki (talk) 05:50, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip, I added GROUP BY ?value. However, the above mentioned error occurs while filtering in the php script all items on which the property is already set. --Pasleim (talk) 20:52, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Harvest Templates saying no value[edit]

I wanted to try your Harvest Templates tool, but I couldn't get it to work. The values I'm trying are: property P535, wiki simple.wikipedia.org, template "Find a Grave" and parameter 1. It finds around 100 pages, but when I try to add the values, each row turns red and says "no value". I also tried with property P1219, wiki en.wikipedia.org, template "IBDB show" and parameter 1 and the same happened there. Maybe it's because they're both using unnamed parameters? - Nikki (talk) 05:20, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It should work now. --Pasleim (talk) 13:05, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, it does seem to be working. :) - Nikki (talk) 05:21, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Harvest Templates: Redirects[edit]

I stumbled on this result from your tool: Fanfare (film) → target has no Wikidata item. The target was nl:Eduard van der Enden which indeed doesn't have a Wikidata-item. That's because it's a redirect to nl:Eddy van der Enden, and that article does have a Wikidata-item. It seems that your tool can't handle redirects yet or doesn't handle them well. Hope you can solve this issue in a future version, because it's a great tool. (I manually added Eddy van der Enden to the Wikidata-item of Fanfare.) Mbch331 (talk) 09:37, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your tool also seems to have a problem where the director isn't linked, but there is a reference after the name. You and up with Special:Diff/263325388 these type of statements. (This is how the page looked like when your tool harvested the infobox.) Mbch331 (talk) 11:25, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Redirects are not resolved intentionally because sometimes they are created for topics which are described within a wider article. The second issue should be fixed since Wednesday. --Pasleim (talk) 14:13, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't resolve redirects, maybe it's possible to treat them as if they weren't links? (So if try to match target page even without wikisyntax was checked, you could try to match them and if not reject them as normal.) Mbch331 (talk) 13:06, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Delete[edit]

Hello, I've recently started working on fixing wikidata links with trwiki and trwikiquote where I'm active, trying to fight vandalism too I occassionally run into empty/no longer necessary items, how do I tag them for deletion? I couldn't find a way to use Template:Delete thanksHakanIST (talk) 13:28, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can put the Template:Delete on the talk page, or more convenient, add a request on WD:RFD --Pasleim (talk) 20:18, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Harvest Templates feature request[edit]

It would be great if an optional field prefix could be added. This way it's possible to harvest IMDb id's from nlwiki or enwiki. They store only the numbers and the type is determined in the template. For example nl:De Brief voor de Koning (film). If I harvest that now I would get as a claim

⟨ The Letter for the King (Q461769)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩ IMDb ID (P345) View with SQID ⟨ 0490377 ⟩

which is an incorrect value as a title on IMDB starts with tt. If there were an prefix field, I would add tt in the prefix field and the result would be

⟨ The Letter for the King (Q461769)  View with Reasonator View with SQID ⟩ IMDb ID (P345) View with SQID ⟨ tt0490377 ⟩

Mbch331 (talk) 17:24, 31 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

added prefix field --Pasleim (talk) 22:47, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Understanding failure of harvesttemplate for enWS[edit]

Hi. Was checking the use of harvesttemplates for function at s:en: and ending up with fail message and unknown issue, though wondering whether it is namespace related. Looking to use author (P50) with the contributor field for template:DNB12. Demo run gives the fail message of no target page found. Thanks for your direction on this matter.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:41, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's a namespace problem. Author pages have their own namespace on enwikisource but the namespace prefix is not written down in the template. I will work on a feature to allow users to add manually the prefix. Pasleim (talk) 12:58, 10 November 2015 (UTC)--[reply]
That would be fantastic. WSes utilise namespace a lot so there will be much benefits through all that community.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:55, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's is now possible to add prefixes. To run your job, click "try to match target page..." and add in the value prefix field Author: --Pasleim (talk) 18:18, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately I got the same result. It is matching the article to WD fine, though still no target page found.  — billinghurst sDrewth 08:34, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me with DNB12. I think you need the option "try to match target page even without wikisyntax".--- Jura 11:13, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think the ones that don't work have the author name redirecting sample. --- Jura 12:40, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The "value prefix" box doesn't always come up, especially when returning to the page. Maybe a caching issue on my side. Other than that, it works its way through WS. --- Jura 14:04, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The "value prefix" box only shows for string datatypes. (it depends on the chosen property) Mbch331 (talk) 07:48, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It should also show for item datatypes. Maybe it's a caching issue. Can you force a cache refresh by pressing [Ctrl]+[F5]? --Pasleim (talk) 09:12, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You are right. Just checked and it does show up when I use an property with datatype item. Mbch331 (talk) 12:59, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for Harvest tool[edit]

This is an enhancement request in the category "would be nice to have, but don't spend to much time on it". I would be nice if there were some sort of possibility to export the results of the tool. In CSV or TSV format would be nice. This is the result shown by the tool:

Kaandorp Zingt → Q2519037 → added value Q916386
Spit in the storm (Slagerij van Kampen) → Q2115640 → added value Q2781791
Door (Slagerij van Kampen) → Q2787518 → added value Q2781791
A long walk on a short pier (album) → Q2236422 → added value Q2781791
Bigger Better Faster More! → Q1794881 → added value Q238263
Strange fruit (Trijntje Oosterhuis) → Q2062510 → added value Q461348
Trijntje Oosterhuis (album) → Q2370848 → added value Q461348
For Once In My Life (Trijntje Oosterhuis) → Q2249541 → added value Q461348
Olie en rook (Zijlstra) → Q2531328 → added value Q2051067
De doorbraak (Zijlstra) → Q13571487 → added value Q2051067
The Masked Marauders → Q2509044 → no target page found

Nieuwegein aan zee → Q1883188 → added value Q589220
Buena Vista Social Club (album) → Q1597639 → added value Q842415

An export would look something like (using TSV):

Article	QID Article	Result	Target QID
Kaandorp Zingt Q2519037 added value Q916386
Spit in the storm (Slagerij van Kampen) Q2115640 added value Q2781791

I am also frequent user of that tool, thanks for it. Date detection algorithm is very good, it is a pity that it is not possible to use it in that tool to add P569 as well, as many items does not have P569 filled. --Jklamo (talk) 16:04, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a frequent user of that tool too. Would be great if it could be used to add Birth dates, or if a similar tool could be set up, with sorting by death date to be able to search for all people dead in X year with no birth date ;)
and could you add 1999, please ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 11:59, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is the "no date" game that attempts to add both. 1999 was mainly there as a point of comparison, if nothing is done ;) --- Jura 11:45, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

and... since I updated the game, and since it displays "Birth date mode" in top, I cannot change the year anymore :( — only 2015 death names appear) --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:40, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Pasleim, I created Wikidata:Do not merge/5 as new subpage, as /4 became too big to handle. FYI. Thank you, Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 20:38, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Lymantria, Pasleim: It would be good to tag all these pairs with different from (P1889), so that then there is an indication directly on the item itself, rather than relying entirely on an external page -- scripts and bots and other bots might or might not know about that page, but they should be able to see a P1889. Wikidata:Do not merge/5[edit]

Please, check the new page Wikidata:Do not merge/5, created for User:Lymantria. Something wrong, the 'User:Pasleim/projectmerge/' isn't update correctly. CEM-air (talk) 00:04, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware of Wikidata:Do not merge/5. Which report isn't updating correctly? --Pasleim (talk) 00:08, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I tried one, it worked fine. Lymantria (talk) 14:22, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Harvest templates and Japanese characters[edit]

Hi,

Goob job for this tool, I really like it.

However, it doesn't work with name in kana (P1814) and Japanese characters, it says "format violation of value" (see capture). Do you think you can fix this?

Thanks! Thibaut120094 (talk) 20:31, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing that's probably because the regex implementation being used for Harvest Templates doesn't support Unicode properties (I assume it's being checked in Javascript, which apparently doesn't have PCRE support). :/ It might make sense to let people override the format check (with a warning that they should fix the data they're adding). That could be useful in general, because it's easier to edit a statement to fix minor formatting issues than it is to manually add the data. Another thing that might help is to check for \p{ and if the regex contains that, don't bother trying to check the format (because it doesn't understand the regex) or, alternatively, use something like http://xregexp.com/ which supports Unicode properties (http://xregexp.com/plugins/#unicode has an example using \p{Katakana} :)). - Nikki (talk) 12:51, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're right about the check being performed in Javascript. See https://github.com/Pascalco/harvesttemplates/blob/master/main.js#L325 (code is publicly available). Mbch331 (talk) 14:34, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Track and field athletes[edit]

Hi! Could you create a one-time (or maybe two-time) report for possible track and field athlete biography merge? In the first round it could be created, based on WDQ TREE[11513337][][279,106]. Later maybe report could be generated based on Wikipedia categories. You can put it in my userspace, when created. --Edgars2007 (talk) 11:37, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

IAAF ID[edit]

Hi Pasleim! We have a tracking category at en.wiki for athletics biographies that have an IAAF ID in Wikipedia, but not in Wikidata (I'm creating similar ones for other languages too). I noticed you have done bot runs with PLBOT around this property before. Is it possible for you to do another run for the articles in that category? very Strange bug on Date of Birth tool....[edit]

Hello,

On Date of birth mode, in 2014, I have a very strange bug.

The preview of each item is followed (very closely followed - same paragraph) by the preview of another item. I noticed it clearly on items followed by items in another alphabet.

At first, I thought it was other language links from same item, but no... see screenshot here

This could lead to numerous errors in birth date, so I leave it to you to understand what happens :)

--Hsarrazin (talk) 10:15, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

after examining closely items where it happened, it seems like the preview would load both item preview and next item preview :( --Hsarrazin (talk) 10:18, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
and, when it happened, the chosen date was added to second item instead of first - I had to cancel a few like this one https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q16262730&action=history ... --Hsarrazin (talk) 10:22, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thaï date not converted in birth mode (while it works in death mode) : https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q16139469&diff=277317320&oldid=277317317 --Hsarrazin (talk) 16:45, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

the strange bug should be resolved. Thai date conversion only works for dates later than พ. 2483 = 1940. I improved the comment to make that point more clearer. --Pasleim (talk) 18:43, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
thanks a lot :)
may I ask why only dates after 1940 ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 19:38, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Since 1941 Thai years and Gregorian years are aligned. Before that year, the beginning of a Thai year and a Gregorian year was not on the same day, see en:Thai solar calendar --Pasleim (talk) 19:51, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
ahhh… I see. Thanks for that piece of info. I discovered the existence of Thaï calendar very recently, and did not know that :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 23:13, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr. admin Pasleim, you just reverted my attempt to repair a misery. As long as the https is default I and many others can't click the VIAF link without getting an error message. It's really a mess, caused by an incoherent implementation of https in VIAF. I really beg you to reconsider the case and give green light to an adjustment. ( No carelessness at all was done by me, I even asked experienced Kolja21 at his user discussion page and got a positive answer.) -- Justus Nussbaum (talk) 23:41, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to change the link to VIAF, you have to do that at Property:P214#P1630. Editing the page Property:P1630 doesn't affect the VIAF link but just produces many errors. --Pasleim (talk) 23:51, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
-- Justus Nussbaum (talk) 00:56, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Images Hirschsprung Collection[edit]

Hi Pasleim, I can see that you have edited some of my changes. I would just like to say that I'm only chaing information so that they are authentic. I'm a curator at the Hirschsprung Collection - so I'm doing this so that everyone can get the right information about the paintings. I hope you will respect this.  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by VibekeHansen (talk • contribs).

Hi. I undid your edits on Q253446. This item is about the artist Anna Ancher. The painting "A blind woman in her room" has its own item Q21044798. These two concepts, artist and painting, should not be mixed together. --Pasleim (talk) 14:23, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@VibekeHansen: Please review the revert of my edits. The item Anna Ancher (Q253446) has in 24 languages the label Anna Ancher. It has 34 claims all about Anna Ancher and links to 18 Wikipedia articles about Anna Ancher. The English label "A blind woman in her room" doesn't fit at all to that concept. It's a painting by Anna Ancher and is described on its own item A blind woman in her room (Q21044798). --Pasleim (talk) 13:31, 2 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of IMDB link from Billy Elliot the Musical (Q2771)[edit]

You removed IMDb ID (P345) from Billy Elliot the Musical (Q2771). It's the link to a live recording of the musical played in the Victoria Palace Theatre in London. Why did you remove the link? Mbch331 (talk) 20:02, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Huge amount of already as a result for Harvest templates[edit]

I've run harvest templates with the following criteria: property: P27, wiki: nl wikipedia, template: Infobox voetballer, parameter: geboorteland, wikisyntax: checked. As a result I got 7710 pages, after the tool was finished 65% had the result already. Shouldn't these have been filtered out in advance? I pressed add values not long after get pages, so it can't be that someone else just added these values. Mbch331 (talk) 08:02, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The result 'already' should never show up. The filtering out is based on a SPARQL query. Either the query result was outdated or no result at all was transmitted. I will have a better look at it soon. --Pasleim (talk) 09:26, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Harvest templates[edit]

is it possible to harvest template as {{Birth date and age|1993|2|4}} ? it was failed when harvesting birth dates from person infoboxHakanIST (talk) 12:53, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

+1 - I tried it on frwiki too, and failed, not knowing if I was doing wrong or if it doesn't work... --Hsarrazin (talk) 17:34, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It would already be a start if for dates wikitekst could be ignored. Dates like [[17 september]] [[1944]] doesn't work, while 17 september 1944 does work. On nlwiki most dates are formated the first way. Mbch331 (talk) 13:56, 13 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Parsing the template {{Birth date and age}} is a bit tricky and I don't know if I can implement it in a easy way. Dates with wikilinks will work soon. --Pasleim (talk) 09:30, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Brackets are now ignored. --Pasleim (talk) 23:16, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please try again. I added a line so that no more hard refresh is required to get the newest version of the tool. --Pasleim (talk) 17:47, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

projectmerge[edit]

Please update the list.~See recent adds here. Thank you. --Helmoony (talk) 19:13, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Your tool is really great. Can I ask for some enhancements ? Is it possible for example to search same articles in arwiki into arwikisource but for authors. I mean let's say Franz Kafka is an article in arwiki, what I'm looking for in arwikisource is not a page called Franz Kafka but an article like author:Franz Kafka. Author in Arabic is (مؤلف:). See here an example [37]. --Helmoony (talk) 04:45, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The list gets updated automatically. Enabling namespace prefixes slows down the mysql query execution. For smaller wikis I may enable it but for bigger ones my approach fails. --Pasleim (talk) 09:35, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, Please to it for arwiki/arwikisource. It' gonna help me a lot. Thank you. --Helmoony (talk) 16:41, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As you can see here, all the other direct links have been linked [38]. --Helmoony (talk) 16:43, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have new about arwiki/arwikisource:author ? --Helmoony (talk) 16:22, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

PLtools:Harvest Templates[edit]

Hey Pasleim, I just found PLtools:Harvest Templates and it looks very interesing. 95% unique value violation[edit]

I'm running Harvest Templates with the following criteria: Property = Commons category (P373), Wiki=nlwiki, template=commonscat, parameter=1 and after analyzing 448 items out of 28630 items I have a 95% unique value violation rate. I checked a few and they all already have a commonscat value. So somehow filtering isn't done correctly here. Mbch331 (talk) 11:16, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unique value check for Commonscat works different from other properties. It's assumed that a category and an article have the same commonscat. --- Jura 13:08, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just an example Klein-Ulsda (Q2115819), it's in the list to have a Commons category (P373) claim to be added by Harvest Templates, so one would assume there's no P373 claim. I get as a result unique value violation, I open the item and I see a P373 claim, which was added in 2014. So the item shouldn't have been on the list. My problem is not that I get a unique value violation. I can understand that happening, the problem is that 95% of the claims is a unique value violation and that the item already has a P373 claim. I would have expected the item not to be in the list. Mbch331 (talk) 13:13, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's the same bug as reported above. For properties which are used more than ~500,000 the single value check fails. --Pasleim (talk) 21:03, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

prefill harvest[edit]

BTW, I came across dates in newiki (Q19670861), maybe we should skip them. We haven't seen them in Recent deaths as they don't have corresponding categories.
--- Jura 11:50, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Could you check why this harvest returns none? as it is widely used template on trwiki . Thanks!-- Hakan·IST 10:44, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I gathered al QID's through Quarry, put them into autolist and checked them against Mackolik.com player ID (P2458). That gave a result of 0 items. So they all have P2458. Mbch331 (talk) 11:19, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Some of templates have many uses and even if we would check all exceptions, there might still be many empty instances left. When running HarvestTemplate once more, one would need to go through these again.
I wonder if it wouldn't be interesting to process the input by QID in descending order, possibly listing first the ones without an item. pp_value is already being retrieved.
