addition of is in descriptions[edit]

I have just had a re-read of HELP:Description and will re-visit my description edits from today - just in case anyone is worried. User:JarrahTree) 09:43, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Glenorchy[edit]

You mean in the alias? Generally, yes, I would include an alias for the Wikipedia article title if different to the Wikidata label (although in the case of place names, this seems to be more a hangover of the strange reflexive disambiguation of place names on WP:AUS). Technically though, on Wikidata the description should be sufficient to distinguish it – it's overstating it a bit to call it "dangerous" in my opinion – it's essentially just a typing shortcut. Not sure why it was missed on d:Q1531147, but if you look at Taroona (d:Q7686553) where I did some bulk editing using quickstatements at the same time, I added an alias for "Taroona, Tasmania" which I was doing when removing the disambiguators from the primary labels. Thanks for adding the alias anyway! --Canley (talk) 23:04, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New page for catalogues[edit]

Hi, I created a new page for collecting sites that could be added to Mix'n'match and I plan to expand it with the ones that already have scrapers by category. Feel free to use, expand. Best, --Adam Harangozó (talk) 14:21, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

inHerit should just have a single value on each item[edit]

Hi JarrahTree. Thanks for taking up the matching challenge for inHerit Place Number (P2618). I just noticed that you are adding a lot of inherit IDs to the same item. For example, on Collie (Q130685) there are about 20, but there should only be 1. This is basically because we consider every heritage listed item to be (on its own) notable for Wikidata. So for example, even 167 Throssell St, Collie should get a new item. Only match to an existing Wikidata item if the heritage item *is* that Wikidata item. I know this is slightly different to what we sometimes do for the Trove set, but that is because we basically consider that Trove has broken a single Newspaper into many IDs, so we associate them all with the same item. --99of9 (talk) 03:35, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

They will eventually show up on this list, but it is only updated intermittently. More immediately, you can run a "sync" in M'n'M with this link sync. --99of9 (talk) 04:27, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Is this the sort of thing that should be linked from Q111368650? Its a book, but its about the person. Steelkamp (talk) 09:06, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Diesel locomotives of Western Australia[edit]

I notice you've been adding the short description "Diesel locomotives of Western Australia" to a number of US-built diesel locomotives that were primarily used in the United States. The generic "class of diesel locomotives" would be better in these cases. Mackensen (talk) 12:57, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine - I realise that there was the possibility of that issue - thanks for the heads up about that JarrahTree (talk) 13:00, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment[edit]

Dear JarrahTree,

I hope you are doing well,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published in a research venue.

The experiment should take no more than 15 minutes, and it will be held next week.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfA1wfdBfCRlcG3WhDyc-V8lzgPNx3fDFCNXkyn4CSwahXZ_A/viewform?usp=sf_link

Then, I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about my project, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa

In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.
