Using P5008

[edit]

@Daniel Mietchen, Jodi.a.schneider: I am confused about the proposed use of on focus list of Wikimedia project (P5008), I believe it was primarily designed to tag and group collections of items, not to tag properties. Is it common to use it for properties and can you point to any examples? To me, individual bibliographic items in the retraction corpus should have a statement with this property.--DarTar (talk) 11:04, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

PubMed ID items that are retracted papers

[edit]

@Daniel Mietchen: Greetings. I am working on retracted papers, retraction notices, and retractions. Can you add (or update) all the retracted PubMed items and note them as P31=retracted paper (Q45182324)? I don't know how to do the mass additions of PubMed IDs like you have done. Maybe you might revisit this earlier batch you did, [1]?

Ultimately, I'd like to link the retracted papers to the retraction notice (Q7316896) via is retracted by (P5824). I'll try do the linking. Thoughts? Trilotat (talk) 17:29, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Trilotat: Sorry, I can't do much on-wiki these days. For mass additions, see WD:SourceMD. For mass annotations of items based on external identifiers, we do not have good general-purpose tooling, nor do we have anything specific for PMIDs and retractions. --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 23:42, 2 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notified participants of WikiProject Retractions I've cobbled together a wikidata list at User:Trilotat/Retracted papers by publication. I'm not sure how to make it so there is a link to the papers or the authors. Is there a useful way to use this list? I'll continue to try to link retractions to the papers. I'm just not sure if this list (in this or any other format) is useful beyond my use. How can I make it useful? Trilotat (talk) 15:23, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Retraction authors that are not actually authors?

[edit]

Hi, as I noted on the discussion page for In-dental office screening for diabetes mellitus using gingival crevicular blood: Retraction (Q43219180) I am listed as the "author" of the retracted paper, but I am in fact the whistleblower who pointed out that the paper needs retracted. The editors published my name in the metadata as the author. How do I go about marking this as not true that I have a retraction? Resonator is sure that I do :) --WiseWoman (talk) 22:32, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Consider WikiLetters

This project seems to be curating retraction data. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:42, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pulled in 'retracted paper' annotation from CrossRef

[edit]

Hi all, over the winterbreak I pulled in 'retracted paper' annotation from CrossRef, which collaborates with RetractionWatch now. This added about 7 thousand annotations of papers we already had in Wikidata but that are now retracted. I am also from OpenCitations the citations to these articles. I learned this way that I am citing two retracted articles. I'll try to write up more detail as soon as possible. Egon Willighagen (talk) 06:38, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Does this have any relevance for citations in Wikipedia?

[edit]

Are there for example some queries / scripts that show all retracted papers in Wikidata and then show Wikipedia articles where these have been cited (for example using Wikipedia's search function)? A problem with that is that most studies are not in Wikidata even if they were all marked whenever they got retracted. Prototyperspective (talk) 18:51, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
