Queries for medicine

I set up Wikidata:WikiProject India/Queries/medicine with some queries from user:Daniel Mietchen, my colleague who frequently writes medical queries.

We are currently interested in these things:

  1. academic papers from Indian researchers, on topics in India, or when the research was in India
  2. translation of medical terms into as many languages of India as possible

Some future interests include

  1. building out Wikidata profiles for all medical schools and medical research institutes in India
  2. curating clinical trials in India

This is where we are. I do not expect fast updates on anything but I set up this query page to start keeping queries when we have them. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 00:14, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

@Bluerasberry: Thank you for the assistance! We were planning a datathon related to Indian scientists for next weekend, so this is definitely helpful in that regard. Mahir256 (talk) 03:27, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
@Mahir256: You are welcome! There is this also - a list of hospitals in India. I expect that some research is tied to these hospitals. Let's see!
@G. Moore, WiseWoman: You both are interested in hospitals. This "Indian scientist datathon" is not quite that, but I am trying to connect scientist to research to research institute. Sometimes the research institute will be a hospital. I wanted to show you this project, if we should organize anything hospital related on Wikidata, then maybe this project for India could be a good time. I am not yet sure what I want to do, but if either of you can suggest some hospital documentation on Wikidata, then I would contribute to that for this event. Blue Rasberry (talk) 23:44, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
@Mahir256: I am experimenting with a number of related queries and lists but don't know yet how best to integrate them with the queries curated by this WikiProject. For instance, this Listeria list makes use of {{Q}} and of the uselang URL parameter to allow for simple editing in one language (e.g. Bhojpuri or Nepali) based on information available in other languages, similar to TABernacle. I put the target language in the middle, so that it is more convenient to check out what the other languages have on the item in question, but while I think this can be easily configured for use by individuals (perhaps in their user space), I am not sure yet how best to cater to the languages represented in this WikiProject, given that the table is a bit unwieldy already in terms of number of columns, despite only showing some of the relevant languages. --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 02:17, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Queries for languages of India

One way to represent linguistic diversity in India

I am interested in exploring ways in which the linguistic diversity in India (primarily in space but also in time and other dimensions, especially linguistic ones) can be represented through SPARQL queries, so that we could generate visualizations similar to the one embedded here on the fly. Given that the Wikidata Query Service currently does not allow scaled bubbles and maps in the same visualization, I would be fine with either but it seems that good parts of the relevant information are either not available or not consistently modeled. So I am taking a step back and just asking whether anyone has started to compile queries related to multiple languages of India (as opposed to queries involving only one language or simple patterns like topics missing in X-wiki with an entry in Y-wiki).

To get things going, here is a query that fishes for languages that (i) have a Wikipedia, (ii) are an official language of an Indian state.

SELECT DISTINCT ?lang ?langLabel
(GROUP_CONCAT(DISTINCT ?territoryLabel; separator=" // ") AS ?territories)
WITH { SELECT ?territory {
  ?territory wdt:P31 wd:Q13390680 .
  }
  } AS %states
WITH { SELECT ?lang {
  ?wikipedia wdt:P31 wd:Q10876391 ;
             wdt:P407 ?lang .
  }
  } AS %wikilangs
WHERE {
  INCLUDE %states
  INCLUDE %wikilangs
  ?territory wdt:P37 ?lang ;
             wdt:P17 wd:Q668 ;
             rdfs:label ?territoryLabel .
  FILTER (lang(?territoryLabel) = 'en')
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}
GROUP BY ?lang ?langLabel ?territories
Try it!

This currently gives 11 languages from 22 states, so it can perhaps help fill some of the gaps and resolve some of the inconsistencies, so that we can then build more interesting queries later on. --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 01:37, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Removal of note

In the project page, there is a section called notes, which specifies a link to the dashboard. Since the dashboard's activity tracking has ended, I think either it must be set to an ongoing one or else the link needs to be removed. Adithyak1997 (talk) 17:29, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

@Adithyak1997: Thanks — I removed it. --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 01:43, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Movement Strategy - What Are Your Choices For Implementation

Hello WikiProject India friends,

The time has come to put Strategy into work and everyone's invited to participate.

The Movement Strategy Design Group and Support Team are inviting you to organize virtual meetings with your community and colleagues before the end of October. The aim is for you to decide what ideas from the Movement Strategy recommendations respond to your needs and will have an impact in the movement. The recommendations are available in different formats and in many languages. There are 10 awesome recommendations and close to 50 recommended changes and actions or initiatives. Not everything will be implemented. The aim of prioritization is to create an 18-month implementation plan to take some of the initiatives forward starting in 2021.

Regional and thematic platforms are great ways to prepare and share ideas. Prioritization is at the level of your group, affiliate, and community. Think local and relevant! Afterwards, we will come together in November to co-create the implementation plan. More information about November’s global events will be shared soon. For now and until the end of October, organize locally and share your priorities with us.

You can find guidance for the events, the simple reporting template, and other supporting materials here on Meta. You can share your results directly on Meta, by email, or by filling out this survey. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions or comments, strategy2030@wikimedia.org

We will be hosting office hours to answer any questions you might have, Thursday October 1 at 14.00 UTC (Google Meet).

Translation of header of the main page

WikiProject India has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead.

Hi,

I just noticed that the SVG image in the header of the Wikidata:Main Page is translated in many languages but only in very few of India. This would be a great gift for Wikidata birthday!

The translations are directly in the SVG files File:Wikidata nodes in white.svg. If you know well SVG and intern translations, you can add it yourself ; if not, please add the translation in your language below and I'll be happy to integrate them into the SVG. And if your language has font trouble (I know it's the case in Bengali at least), please also let me know.

The 6 words to translate are :

  • open
  • collaborative
  • linked
  • multilingual
  • free
  • structured

Hubli airport

Hi all. A curious thing. I don't know hindi, but Hubli is referred to as "हुबली HUBLI" in that doc https://www.aai.aero/sites/default/files/traffic-news/Jan2k20Annex3.pdf or "हुफरी HUBLI" in that other doc https://www.aai.aero/sites/default/files/traffic-news/Jul2k20Annex3.pdf . Is it the same Hubballi Airport (Q3207464) ?--Bouzinac💬✒️💛 21:22, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

@Bouzinac: Not sure where you're seeing the second of the Devanagari spellings you have given, but yes, they are the same. Mahir256 (talk) 21:34, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Mahir256 I'm uploading traffic data from Jan to Nov 2020 ;) And oh, you or someone might be interested to get that template fr:Modèle:Aéroport-Statistiques into hindi wiki. --Bouzinac💬✒️💛 21:38, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

Project Grants Proposal: Wiki Loves Butterfly Phase-V

Hi Wikimedians,

Greetings from Wiki Loves Butterfly team. As you might know, for the last 4 years, we have been documenting butterfly taxon endemic to eastern and north-eastern part of India through the Wiki Loves Butterfly project. Our aim is to increase the amount of free license materials along with enrichment of related content on different Wikimedia sites. Our project has been previously supported by 4 Rapid Grants. Since the beginning of the project in 2016, we have gained considerable amount of expertise, maturity and confidence to successfully plan and execute field-documentations and expanded our area of activity in remote deep forests of North East India. But the range of activities in all of our previous endeavors were much restricted due to budget constraints, which has now encouraged us to apply for the Project Grants Program for the coming phase, for vaster and more extensive qualitative documentation related to the topic. The WLB team is requesting all interested Wikimedians to visit our Project Grants proposal and provide valuable feedback and suggestions here. If you feel this project proposal is eligible to get the grant, then you can endorse the proposal here.Thank you--Atudu (talk) 06:54, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

International Mother Language Day 2021 - Label-a-thon on 6 February 2021

International Mother Language Day 2021 - Label-a-thon
International Mother Language Day 2021 - Label-a-thon

Hello everyone,

As you know CIS-A2K is going to organise an online large-scale event called “Wikimedia Wikimeet India 2021.” It will be a 3-days-long event and the dates are 19, 20, and 21 February 2021. On 21st February, it is International Mother Language Day and we will celebrate that day during the event. For the celebration of the same, we are planning for a pre-event as a part of WMWM.

It will be a one-day Wikidata event called Label-a-thon. The date for the event is 6 February 2021. During this event, we will create Labels, descriptions, and alias about Indian Languages, Indian Dialects, Indian authors (from any Indian language), translators, etc in our local languages. The queries for the items is already given on the event page. Interested participants add their name on the event page which is given below. If you have any questions or issues regarding the event, please feel free to contact. Please have a look on the event page and add your name and also spread the word with your community or friends as well.

Thank you Satpal (CIS-A2K) (talk) 16:25, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Property proposal: writing style

WikiProject India has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. Syncing Local Government Data to WikiData

Hello Everyone, I am trying to sync Local Government Directory Data to WikiData. The focus is to update StateCode, DistrictCode, Census2001Code,Census2011Code etc. Initially all the states and UTs, Districts and Sub-districts. I have done the initial analysis on states and districts. Here is the detailed post about it. I will start with states and districts first. I idea is to write a bot that can be reused later if required. Please give me your feedback here or on the post. I will start post 25th March, (talk)

- Thank you @Gnoeee: for fixing the Q955977, Q1900496 and Q1606061 and marking them as dissolved. Also some of the other changes that I had mentioned in the blog. Thank you again. Thejeshgn (talk) 10:59, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Thejeshgn (talk) 04:16, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

@Thejeshgn: I don't think you need to synchronize 2011 census codes for states or districts at all, as I was the one who added the vast majority of, if not all, such codes in the first place. I've no objections to your adding the rest of the 2001 census codes to states/districts (only West Bengal and erstwhile Andhra Pradesh have them, I think; that's at least what this list indicates). Also please clarify what "etc." means in your comment above, as it is not elaborated on in your post either. Mahir256 (talk) 04:29, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
@Mahir256: Okay. Wont't look into 2011 unless its missing. Will look into 2001. I was also trying to bring in StateCode and DistrictCode as described by LGD.

Indian state goverment

Hello, after I added for a long time descriptions I am now interested in adding content to Wikidata and there I am interested in politicians and their positions and also in institutions. There I am also interested in other states outside Germany. Is there a source you know from where I can get specific information about politicians or institutions in the states of india who serve at the moment or who served in the past so that I can enter Information. From my point of view for getting an overview about the institutions in india and also in other countrys it is helpful to read budgets like this one [1] for India. Please let me know if you know a source what you think it is helpful for adding information about Indian topics. --Hogü-456 (talk) 21:06, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Join the new Regional Committees for Grants

Dear all,

We hope this email finds you well and safe. The COVID 19 situation continues to affect many of us across the globe and our thoughts are with everyone affected. Hindi Wikipedia and Wikidata?

WikiProject India has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. Hi all. I'm looking for someone that knows Hindi Wikipedia and Wikidata to help a relatively new editor (who now knows pywikibot - so is a potential bot operator) - specifically @Pushp24. Any pointers/volunteers? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 13:47, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

Contribute to Lexemes

Hi. The Wikidata:Lexicographical data about Hindi and other Indian languages is very less. Please contribute to it. Thanks. Vis M (talk) 13:04, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

A welcoming page for Indian languages was also created: Wikidata:Lexicographical data/Welcome/Indian languages#Indian_languages. I have also created individual documentations for major Indian languages. Please feel free to improve them and welcome new contributors. Thank you. —Vis M (talk) 19:01, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Contribute to WikiProject:Govdirectory

Hi, the WikiProject:Govdirectory has an section about India which could need some additional eyes at it. I guess some of the administrative levels could be complete but there are no indication if so is the case. There are also some good sources for state-level agencies but no progress have yet been recorded.

Legal forms in India (for nonprofits)

Hello everybody. I'm searching for legal form (P1454) of India. At the moment, wikidata can only find non profit company (Q111103952), Section 8 Company (Q56194030) and trust (Q111224165). The ELF code (P10421) has a list of 33, but they are not matching what is used here on wikidata or by the authorities. I.e. for Nonprofits it knows Cooperative Society, Non profit company and Trust. The NGO Directory (NGO-DARPAN) (Q107178924) knows Registered Societies and Trusts. Wikidata knows Section 8 Company (Q56194030), which seem to be a collective Item for tax exempted NGOs? Perhaps somebody here knows the legal structure of associations and companies and is interested in creating a structure of legal forms? Best Newt713 (talk) 16:47, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

P131 hierarchy for Andhra Pradesh in wikidata

I initiated a discussion with @DaxServer, as I noticed his work adding revenue divisions for Andhra Pradesh, following the recent restructuring of districts. (Please see About revenue divisions for Andhrapradesh mandals in wikidata) For the larger convenience of updates and queries, the hierarchy of Districts-Mandals-Revenue Village will be used for P131 property, ignoring the Revenue division which is intermediate between Districts and Mandals, which serves as an intermediate escalation for mainly land issues not resolved at Mandal level. If anyone has any feedback, kindly let us know in couple of days. Arjunaraoc (talk) 10:49, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

Thanks Arjunaraoc for your inpus on the revised category of Districts,Mandals,Villages, Probably we need to wait some more time as the government has issued a draft notification' under The Andhra Pradesh Districts (Formation) Act, 1974. we can go-ahead based on the acknowledgement in central government of India on its official gazette Kasyap (talk) 19:12, 9 April 2022 (UTC).
@Kasyap, Thanks for your response. The final gazette notification was issued on 2024-04-03. I understand that Central government has issued official codes for the new districts already from the [https://www.thehansindia.com/andhra-pradesh/centre-assigns-lgd-codes-to-new-districts-formed-in-andhra-pradesh-736825 news]. I guess that serves as an acknowledgement from the union government, if you think that is required. Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:05, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
Andhra Pradesh revenue division linkages with mandals and districts removed as per the above. Arjunaraoc (talk) 04:58, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
Where do we put these codes in WIki* ? DaxServer (talk) 08:15, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
@DaxServer, These can be maintained as a table or bullet list in the relevant wiki article like district article. Arjunaraoc (talk) 10:31, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
