@Pasleim: Any thoughts on this (as a separate matter from deleting the item about Benoit himself)? Mahir256 (talk) 16:26, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
I don't have an opinion on this item in particular. It would just be nice to have a consistent rule, i.e. either keep all userpage categories or delete them all. --Pasleim (talk) 18:33, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
  •  Weak oppose. It appears that the French Wikipedia allows user categories. When we drafted the exclusion criterion on user categories ("any maintenance category which is named after a user or a date, unless the item has two or more sitelinks"), we were conscious that some Wikimedia projects allow user categories for authorship tagging and curation purposes. For as long as fr.wp is fine with keeping the category, I don't think there's a good reason to delete the category item. Deryck Chan (talk) 13:30, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Musical instruments

The first two comments from @BohemianRhapsody: and @Wikizummo: are common to all ten items; the exchange below those two comments, except for my question on November 28th, specifically appeared under Q56034651.

Wrong item BohemianRhapsody (talk) 09:40, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

It's not a wrong item, but one item belonging to one of the many revisions of the Hornbostel-Sachs classification. This one has been worked out by the ethnomusicologist Febo Guizzi, and we're are using these entities (we're querying the Wikidata SPARQL endpoint) for the project "Sound Archives and Musical Instruments Collections", held by the University of Turin and by some researchers of the MIMO project (http://www.mimo-international.com/MIMO/). The relevance and publicity of the item has also been referenced, so I ask to not delete the item. --GiorgioBevilacqua (talk) 11:05, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

@Wikizummo: The two classes being proposed here for deletion don't appear in the source given. In general, it would help a lot if you could integrate the items you've created into Wikidata better, for example, by using subclass of (P279) to link items together. Right now there are lots of items which aren't being used in Wikidata for anything, so it's not obvious why they should be kept, which will lead to people proposing them for deletion. - Nikki (talk) 15:34, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
@Nikki: My fault: actually this entity and the following (Q55719474) are not in the source given, since they were added by the cataloguer who is working at the "Sound Archives and Music Collections" project. In this project we developed a cataloguing system based on Collective Access, but since we wanted to make our data accessible and reusable by the online community, we decided to use Wikidata for the management of controlled vocabularies. So we created all Hornbostel-Sachs WD entities (MIMO and Guizzi's version), and developed a plugin (https://github.com/collectiveaccess/providence/commit/eb63850303169fa2f03703db3c5dd62b1e8541e3) that we use to query the Wikidata Sparql Endpoint from the Collective Access back end. But sometimes the cataloguer needs to extend the classification, as for Q56034651 and Q55719474. So I ask you how can I correctly reference them, since we still don't have produced any paper about it (I suppose we'll do it soon, at the end of the project). Maybe I can create an entity for the University project (https://www.slideshare.net/synapta/sound-archives-and-musical-instrument-collections) and use it for referencing?

For the integration in Wikidata: I'll link items with subclass of (P279), but it's a bit complicagted and will take a while. --GiorgioBevilacqua (talk) 13:27, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

@BohemianRhapsody, Wikizummo, Nikki: It's been over a month; thoughts on all of these? Mahir256 (talk) 16:37, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

@Wikizummo: (assumed the name on your signature was your username due to the lack of a space) Mahir256 (talk) 16:38, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
@Mahir256: The items that I have proposed here for deletion have a number of problems, that I have already pointed out on it.wiki to @Wikizummo: (see here):
  • All these items are classes of a "Guizzi classification" for musical instruments, but this classification doesn't have a page on it.wiki, nor it have in other wikis.
  • They all were/are using Hornbostel-Sachs classification (P1762), but this property - by definition - is meant to be used for HS codes only.
  • I don't know if "Guizzi classification" has notability, but if it has, it should have a different property.
  • On the contrary, if "Guizzi classification" hasn't notability, all of these items must be deleted, because they would be useless.
  • Otherwise, if Guizzi names are just some different names for classes already existing in HS classifications, thus we should be keep this name and use them as alias for already existing object.
--BohemianRhapsody (talk) 16:29, 3 December 2018 (UTC)
@Mahir256, BohemianRhapsody, Nikki: Hi everyone, the Guizzi classification is one of the instrument classifications based on the Hornbostel-Sachs Classification. I agree with @BohemianRhapsody: that using the property Hornbostel-Sachs classification (P1762) for Guizzi Classification would be misleading. So:
  • I proposed (see here) to change the property from Hornbostel-Sachs classification (P1762) to catalog code (P528) with qualifier catalog (P972). (here is an example: Q56034788)
  • As suggested by Nikki, I planned to link entities using subclass of (P279).
  • About the notability of Guizzi classification: Febo Guizzi was one an ethnomusicologist expert in HS, as a matter of fact he organized one of the most important conferences about HS in the last year (here, the program: https://www.fondazionelevi.it/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Programma-HS.pdf). Guizzi's classification is being published by the Fondazione Ugo e Olga Levi (here is the online version that I used for referencing the Classification in Wikidata: [1])
  • Some researchers of the University of Turin are actually using the Guizzi Classification for the Sound Archives and Musical Instrument Collection Project (see [2] and [3]). They are directly querying Wikidata's SPARQL endpoint during the cataloguing process. So, if these entities will be deleted, we should redefine the project's management of controlled vocabularies.
