half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50)[edit]
Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Natural science
Description | measure of the effectiveness of a substance in inhibiting a specific biological or biochemical function |
---|---|
Represents | half maximal inhibitory concentration (Q286779) |
Data type | Quantity |
Domain | chemistry, molecular biology, biology |
Allowed units | mole (Q41509) (or more commonly: nM (1x10^-9 mole), uM (1x10^-6 mole) and mM (1x10^-3 mole)) |
Example | vemurafenib (Q423111) → inhibitor of (P3776) → B-Raf proto-oncogene, serine/threonine kinase (Q21109218) + qualifier: IC50 = 20.931 uM |
Source | PubChem, BindingDB |
Planned use | several hundred of these activities should be added in a first step |

- Motivation
There is a complete set of human, mouse, rat, etc genes and proteins in Wikidata. Also there are 160K biologically relevant small molecules in Wikidata. A while ago, I have also successfully proposed 10 pharmacological mechanism properties. In order to make more efficient use of these and to provide an indication of the strength of the pharmacologic effect, IC50 is missing as a specific measurement. Support If LD50 (P2240) is an approved property, makes sense for IC50 to be one as well. Gtsulab (talk) 17:07, 22 September 2017 (UTC)
