Surname and disambiguation pages

Please note that surname pages have a definite function here, and are kept distinct from items for Wikimedia disambiguation pages. While the practice on Wikipedias is sometimes a bit loose, Wikipedia surname pages should appear here as links from surname page items, and it is not helpful to move them to items for disambiguation pages. Materialscientist, users are complaining at Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard#Vandalism bei User:Materialscientist and Wikidata:Project chat#Family name and disambiguation merges that you are regularly merging items about disambiguation pages and family name lists that should not be merged here at Wikidata. Based on your recent contributions, this it indeed a valid complaint about your edits here, and I ask you not to do such mergers any more. Plenty of users actually work hard to keep these concepts intentionally separated per project consensus.
In case you are after the extra interwikilinks from these bad mergers, please solve the situation locally at (presumably) enwiki by using oldschool interwikilinks in the articles. A convenient way to achieve that is the use of en:Template:Interwiki extra which pretty much automates this for you. In case of questions, feel free to ask here. Thank you, —MisterSynergy (talk) 11:09, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've replied there. I do understand the whole issue, but it is processed in a bot-like manner, without checking the actual pages. I keep en.wiki pages correct in this regard. The problems mostly come from de.wiki, where I don't edit. They tag all pages as disambiguation, and this is carried over to wikidata. Materialscientist (talk) 11:20, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, different Wikipedias handle this situation differently and there is no perfect solution to fit them all.
You can find our local guidelines for disambiguation items/pages at Wikidata:WikiProject Disambiguation pages; our practical approach is to group sitelinks in a Wikimedia disambiguation page (Q4167410)-type item that carry a template which marks them as dab pages using the __DISAMBIG__ magic word. Such dab pages must also not be linked to items which are not of Wikimedia disambiguation page (Q4167410) type. The actual content of the pages does not matter that much in fact.
This does not provide as many interwikilinks as possible, of course, and we sometimes see users like you who try to merge items in order to increase the number interwikilinks. However, not all projects want the extra interwikilinks and we thus advise to solve this locally in your Wikipedia language edition. As I indicated earlier, this can pretty much be automated; if the enwiki community wants to, it can even add this functionality as in en:Template:Interwiki extra to templates such as en:Template:Surname or en:Template:Disambiguation in order to add those extra interwikilinks by default whenever possible. —MisterSynergy (talk) 11:40, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

Please make sure that you do not merge pages from Commons or pages from Wikipedia that do not have the attribute "Wikimedia disambiguation page" with family name pages in Wikidata. Greeting, --HarryNº2 (talk) 15:28, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
