Duplicates[edit]

Your bot is mass creating duplicate Wikidata pages for the mass articles that have been shoddily robot created on Cebuano Wikipedia without any regard of linking them to entities on other wikipedias. After creating the duplicates, your bot continues to add information to these duplicate pages (like coordinates, which are more accurately given on the English Wikipedia articles on these same entities). I'm talking now about places in the United States with already existing articles on other Wikipedias, but I'm sure Cebuano Wikipedia is full of these articles without a Wikidata link. 128.214.200.222 12:49, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is more easy to find duplicates in Wikidata than in Cebuano Wikipedia itself; Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P1566 lists pages with duplicated Geonames ID and those with only cebwiki links are to be merged. Pasleim's projectmerge is another tool to find duplicate.--GZWDer (talk) 16:47, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I will live that to you Wikidata wizards to fix the problems you willingly and intentionally create. 128.214.200.222 17:13, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
However, you may want to know, unless you already don't, that many Wikidata entries have a false GeoNames item linked by a robot that has had no idea what it is linking and where. Then it doesn't help if the cebwiki article actually has the correct item. Your tool will not find all of them. It is a hopeless swamp and a total robot-created mess. 128.214.200.222 17:19, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
hmmm. —usernamekiran(talk) 12:07, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please slow down[edit]

Hi, can you please slow down editing with GZWDer (flood)? You are causing noticeable dispatch lag. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 07:58, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Hoo man: I have stopped some processes. If this is not enough, comment here again.--GZWDer (talk) 08:01, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please slow down further… ideally you should be well under 20 edits per minute… but certainly under 100 edits per minute. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 08:23, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've stopped all processes involving cebwiki. Let me know whether it is enough.--GZWDer (talk) 08:25, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Seems you are still at close to 300 edits per minute, which is still way to high. The immediate problems are mitigated, but in order to keep this sustainable you should slow down more. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 08:30, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why do we have to keep managing merges for your bot?[edit]

You bot repeatedly creates new category items when there are already existing category items. Why do we have to clean up after your bot? These existing categories should be match using existing tools and paired that way rather than this method of blunt force trauma. Having your bot create so many of these gets in the way of other maintenance tasks and being able to see work that needs doing.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:48, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You for this module. But I want to report one small problem with it. In Lexeme:L3529 there is "akowski" as first lemma and "AK-owski" as second lemma, while module returns it in reversed order as "AK-owski / akowski". And btw: wikidata interface do not adds spaces around "/" (see https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Lexeme:L3528 for example) so I think lemmas = lemmas .. ' / ' .. v.value should be changed to lemmas = lemmas .. '/' .. v.value. KaMan (talk) 14:27, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

cebwiki only items[edit]

What's the plan for these? Didn't we stop importing them?
--- Jura 07:31, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jura1: I'm going to complete them in the future.--GZWDer (talk) 07:48, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Before creating more, could you deal with the existing ones? There tend to be countless duplicates and this deteriorates the overall data quality of the Wikidata.
--- Jura 08:07, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Didn't you already write that last time? Can you outline what you did? Otherwise people might get the impression you stop by to create duplicates and then disappear from the project.
    --- Jura 08:50, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jura1: For example adding country (P17) and coordinate location (P625); but I will do this after all cebwiki pages are imported. For duplicates, it is much more easy to find on Wikidata than on cebwiki.--GZWDer (talk) 09:17, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can you seek feedback in the forum before creating more?
--- Jura 09:18, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jura1: The pages are notable (per WD:N) by itself. It's much harder to find duplicates in advance before they are imported to Wikidata.--GZWDer (talk) 09:20, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think the creator left the project as there were some data quality issues. Please try to work with the ones you already created. This just burdens the project we low quality data.
--- Jura 17:31, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jura1: I will be active until early September.--GZWDer (talk) 17:37, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Autoblock[edit]

@Mahir256: Please remove the autoblock.--GZWDer (talk) 13:40, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think what I have asked is too much. I am not opposed in principle to what you have been doing—see my comment on WD:AN for more info—but you should at least be willing to explain the further actions you intend to make such that there can be no further legitimate complaints about it. Only then will I remove the block; other admins may do so earlier—again as I have mentioned on WD:AN—but any differences in opinion between myself and others are outside the scope of this discussion. Mahir256 (talk) 13:46, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mahir256: The block on the bot account should have autoblock disabled, otherwise the main account will be blocked too.--GZWDer (talk) 13:47, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinate precision[edit]

Your bot is setting the wrong precisions for coordinates. For example, Greenville (Q5604654) says the coordinates are 44°17'42"N, 88°32'24"W and were imported from the English Wikipedia. However, the coordinates on the English Wikipedia are 44°18'01"N 88°32'11"W. Those coordinates are given to the nearest second, so the precision should be 1/3600 (approximately 0.0002778) but your bot has used 0.0125517. Could you please fix it? - Nikki (talk) 20:29, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nikki: The enwiki coord template does not imply any precision of coordinates and the default precision of coordinate in GeoData extension is 1km.--GZWDer (talk) 01:11, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The enwiki template gives the coordinates in degrees, minutes and seconds, so you should enter the same value here, because what you are entering is not the same as what the page you are importing them from says. If you can't do that, please stop adding them. - Nikki (talk) 07:40, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Nikki: The problem is the enwiki coordinates does not have a precision specified (and coordinates with unspecified precision passed to GeoData); when you use API to query the coordinate, GeoData will add a default precision (which is 1km) to result and Pywikibot directly use it (as Wikidata does not support coordinates with unspecified precision). Assuming 1km precision may be good for general cases but is not univerally correct. I have stopped the import for now.--GZWDer (talk) 07:48, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why did bot create Wikidata for Stub categories?[edit]

Hi, I noticed your bot created WD categories for a variety of Missouri region Registered Historic Place stub categories, like w:Category:Kansas City, Missouri region Registered Historic Place stubs and w:Category:Northwest Missouri Registered Historic Place stubs. Why is it doing this? These are stub categories and I'm not sure it make sense for stub categories to have Wikidata. -Furicorn (talk) 16:26, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Furicorn: Wikidata may have items for almost every categories (except category redirects), not only content categories. See WD:N.--GZWDer (talk) 16:29, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sock categories[edit]

Hi, you’re flooding my notifications by creating en.wiki specific sock categories as Wikidata items and I’m honestly at a loss for how this provides any benefit to anyone. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:16, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

They are allowed per Wikidata:Notability and there're no consensus to exclude them.--GZWDer (talk) 20:18, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It’s creating cross-wiki disruption. Please stop. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:20, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@TonyBallioni: As creation of the sitelink is allowed by policy, if you have good reason that this should be excluded, please start a discussion at WD:PC. You may just disable the notification at w:Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo.--GZWDer (talk) 20:23, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, I’m not changing my preferences because you have decided to waste server space on something that has zero benefit to anyone just because this project hasn’t developed enough as a community to have a rule for every form of disruption. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:27, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wikidata:Notability allows a wide variety of pages. I can pause the bot, but the policy allow anyone to create items for them (though for most wikis, including enwiki, there're no bots for mass creating category items, even for content categories, resulting a large number of unconnected category). So if you oppose such items, you should start a discussion at WD:PC.--GZWDer (talk) 20:33, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There’s a difference between content categories and pure maintenance categories that only affect one project. Anyway, I’ve raised this issue at your admin noticeboard: [2]. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:38, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Support Mass-disclosing of sock categories can result WMF to be prosecuted by e.g. FBI or CIA, and hence many movememts to let actual knowledge contents free can therefore be failed. --125.38.13.10 08:51, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help us improving the user experience of Lexicographical Data[edit]

Hello,

I’m Jan, doing research on user experience in the Wikidata team. I’m currently discussing with people who are editing Lexemes, in order to understand their needs better, and improve their experience with the interface.

We noticed that you have been actively editing Lexemes recently (thank you for that!) and we would love to have a discussion with you about what you’re doing, how you work, what motivates you to create Lexemes, and how you imagine reusing the data later.

This discussion would take place as an individual interview with one of our designers. Via the communication platform of your choice, you’ll be able to share your screen, show how you’re currently editing the data and chat with us. The discussion would take between 30 and 60 min, we will set up the appointment depending on when you are available. Depending on your preferred language, the discussion can happen in English, German or French.

If you’re interested, feel free to reply to this message or send me an email: jan.dittrich@wikimedia.de.

If you don’t want to be contacted by us on this topic anymore, please let me know. --Jan Dittrich (WMDE) (talk) 15:58, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

English disambig page that will never have a Japanese equivalent?[edit]

Hey, thank you for creating Wikidata items for a few of my contributions to en.wiki; however, I'm wondering if [4] could/should be changed/removed; it's a disambiguation page resulting from two Japanese poets have names that are pronounced identically, but in written Japanese their names are clearly distinct. I'm probably gonna create an en.wiki article on the one that doesn't already have an article come November, and I guess in the future French/German/otherEuropean Wikipedias might produce articles on both of them and need the disambig page, but I created the disambig page as a placeholder since I didn't want to figure out if either was a more likely search target and I can't guarantee that I won't change my mind once I get around to writing the other article, and the idea of other roman alphabet language Wikipedias having articles on either of them, let alone both, is purely hypothetical at the moment.

As my edit history should make clear, I am not a Wikidata regular, and have no idea how this is normally supposed to work, but I get the impression there might have been a mistake here.
