Better example than Wikipedia's "Main Page"

Currently, we are using Q5296 (Main Page) for the "See Wikidata in action" example. But now that we have properties and whatnot, an item which almost exclusively consists of language links and a few aliases doesn't really showcase Wikidata's features. So how about Q52 (Wikipedia) instead? --Tobias K. (talk) 21:22, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Lydia and I talked about this ages ago. She and I had the idea of a semi-official "featured item". It wouldn't be anything fancy, like TFA on Wikipedia, but it would just be something that would get updated every day or two, perhaps not even requiring a vote; any good-faith contributor would be allowed to put up an item they think reflects well on the project, and after a while it would be changed out. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 05:03, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Not a bad idea. For me, just having a decent static example is good enough, so I won't put effort into it, but a "featured item" makes sense and based on our sister projects' front pages I guess we will eventually have something like that. --Tobias K. (talk) 19:15, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
The community was split over this issue - see Wikidata:Project chat/Archive/2013/04#Featured Items. I agree that it shouldn't be too fancy, as that was a reason cited by opposers in that discussion.--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:19, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

I just thought I'd let someone know that I was on the English WikiSpecies Main Page at: http://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page. Clicking the WikiData link at the bottom of that page took me to http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Main_Page. That page, in turn, has been deleted without a redirect:

This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference.
 20:13, 26 October 2012 Reedy (talk | contribs) moved page [[Main Page]] to Wikidata:Main Page without leaving a redirect

Now, I'm not even going to pretend to understand the issues (technical or otherwise) surrounding this problem, which seems to have been around since October... I see a bunch of internationalization chatter above, and I also see bug references – but I gotta ask: Is this by design? Would a redirect link at [[Main Page]] cause something else to break? Is there no workaround?

Please don't take my questions as though I'm trying to be cynical or sarcastic – I'm just used to the mindset that failing to land "legacy" inbound links to one's homepage is a failure to be avoided at all costs, and that you cannot expect the calling site (sister project or not) to "correct" their links... Grolltech (talk) 09:06, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

This should be fixed on sister projects IMHO. --Ricordisamoa 11:43, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Main Page was moved here already on October 26, 2012. And Wikidata link was added to Wikispecies in January 2013[1]. --Stryn (talk) 20:25, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

 link fixed by species:User:OhanaUnited. Short of some ugly hacks, there's really nothing we can do on this end. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 21:57, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Habe put up a script to redirect users to the correct location?  Hazard-SJ  ✈  05:56, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

CC0 is not a license

In the footer it states, "All structured data from the main and property namespace is available under the Creative Commons CC0 License". Should be changed to ".. under the Creative Commons CC0 public domain waiver" or otherwise use the CC0 tool to obtain and implement alternative suggested text: http://creativecommons.org/choose/zero/

If we're aiming for precise terminology, then I think "public domain dedication" might be better than "public domain waiver". That's how Creative Commons refers to CC0: see the menu items "About CC0 Public Domain Dedication" and "Choose CC0 Public Domain Dedication" under the "Public Domain" menu item in the header bar at http://creativecommons.org/. Or to avoid this all, "... under Creative Commons CC0; ..." should do, right?  Hazard-SJ  ✈  05:55, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Automatic replacement

For this replacement I used this source:

<nowiki>$("#wpTextbox1").val($("#wpTextbox1").val().replace(new RegExp("(\\n==+\\s*)<translate><!\\-\\-T:\\d+\\-\\->\\n("+wgMonthNames.slice(1).join("|")+")<\\/translate>(\\s*==+\\n)","g"),"$1{{int:$2}}$3"))</nowiki>
