[edit]Most translators for works do not have a Wikidata page. This would help add translators which currently require a Wikidata page, and would complement author name string (P2093). I don't know how to write these examples in the box, but it would be translator: (name) and then the language as a qualifier. AntisocialRyan (talk) 14:02, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- wouldn't we typically have an item for each translation of a work? so the qualifier would make no sense? BrokenSegue (talk) 15:43, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- I was thinking more like digital things that have many easily changeable translations by not very notable contributors, like video games and websites, not books and such that have translated items. AntisocialRyan (talk) 02:58, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per the opposition given on Wikidata:Property proposal/cites work string, Wikidata:Property proposal/candidate name string, and Wikidata:Property proposal/has part (string value) and the alternative suggestions given in each. Mahir256 (talk) 16:22, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

- Comment Use author name string (P2093) with qualifier <object has role> "translator". - PKM (talk) 21:09, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose I am ready to consider something like "person name string" when Wikidata passes the tipping point of having both lots of names in a category and a community plan to disambiguate them. We have author name string (P2093) as the exceptional pilot for importing strings of text because of the Wikicite project and its several hundred participants who have done author disambiguation. For translators alone we do not have a community base to disambiguate people. For now I say use translator (P655) when possible and author name string (P2093) with qualification when necessary. This proposal right now would not result in content which we could easily query, which is one of the guiding principles of property adoption. I am ready to agree that translators for video games and websites are a good starting point and case study, as web publication and video games have good community bases and document credit for translation.
