- Motivation
See Wikidata:Property proposal/Royal Academy identifier.
These new identifiers are currently parallel-running on a beta interface, which is expected to take over as the RA's main collections interface some time this year.
The old identifiers look to be easier to acquire; but these new identifiers (which look to be mostly guessable once one knows the RA's preferred name for an artist) are what we will need going forward. Jheald (talk) 00:07, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

- Comment do we really want Arch of Titus (Q723887) → ../organisation/arch-of-titus-rome? it looks like a hack to me. Many people will be clueless about this. − Pintoch (talk) 12:11, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Pintoch: In reality, there are only very few objects like Arch of Titus in the system. Mostly, the (limited number) of items that have been placed under organisation in the new RA hierarchy are indeed bona-fide organisations.
- The overwhelming majority of items in the new hierarchy are artist names. To me it makes sense to cover that main use-case as simply as possible. If people object to the
..
that that leads to in the middle of the URL, then one could create an additional property for things in the RA hierarchy that weren't names. - To me being able to have an ID like
lawrence-alma-tadema-ra
rather thanname/lawrence-alma-tadema-ra
for the great majority of values seems desirable and acceptable, albeit at the expense of having a few like../organisation/arch-of-titus-rome
- But either way (and I would be happy to go with either), I would like it if we could get on with this quite soon, before the RA turns the old site off. Jheald (talk) 12:38, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't notice the '..' hack! I think it would be better to propose a second identifier for the non-names, but I Support this for people. ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:34, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, fine with me then. I've added a tentative format. − Pintoch (talk) 19:14, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
