Motivation[edit]

DigitalNZ.org is a website that acts as an interface to videos, newspapers, maps, photographs, audio, artworks, and news reports that have been digitised in New Zealand. This id will be used to link with online resources available through that site. DigitalNZ also have an API that can assist with this linking. Ambrosia10 (talk) 22:45, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

For those not familiar with DigitalNZ: DigitalNZ is New Zealand's national aggregator of digital content, a bit like Europeana, but NZ-only. The content is large-scale government funded digitisation efforts and small-scale photo collections of local flora and fauna, and everything in-between. There's an API, but it's largely been overshadowed by larger systems in other countries (particularly Trove and Europeana) and so not that well used. It's also used with POND in schools. URL pattern In the examples given above, the example URLs don't match the URLs generated by the Formatter URL. https://digitalnz.org/records/37896844/nelson-regatta-1843 vs https://digitalnz.org/records/37896844 Does this matter? I'm also not sure whether the URL pattern should be https://digitalnz.org/records/$1/ rather than https://digitalnz.org/records/$1 Not sure that it matters, either way. Thanks for those comments. It appeared that the long title suffix of the URLs (for example https://digitalnz.org/records/37896844/nelson-regatta-1843) was unnecessary as the shorter URLs (again for example https://digitalnz.org/records/37896844) resolve to the same page. I believed that as it didn't appear to matter, the shorter URL was more appropriate. I would be happy to edit if there is a consensus that the longer URLs are more stable or are required for other practical reasons. Ambrosia10 (talk) 09:07, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the metadata for the resource at https://digitalnz.org/records/37896844/nelson-regatta-1843 specifies https://digitalnz.org/records/37896844 as canonical.Ratso56 (talk) 03:44, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
