- Discussion
Supportif and only if datatype is changed to "item". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:27, 12 October 2016 (UTC)- Oppose per ArthurPSmith. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:23, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose: we already have mean wind speed lying around, which this property would duplicate. --Izno (talk) 15:46, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- more relevant, we have maximum sustained winds (P2895) which is exactly what the Saffir-Simpson scale is based on, so yes I agree it would be redundant. ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:12, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose This is a classification property, use instance of (P31) or something like that. author TomT0m / talk page 19:42, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
- But you shouldn't use start and end dates with instance of (P31). ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:09, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, it does not seem like a problem to me. author TomT0m / talk page 16:33, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

- Comment I don't think this is restricted to hurricanes, is it? Or is a different scale used for tropical cyclones in other ocean basins? ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:11, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: according to Wikipedia this scale is used only for storms in the north Atlantic and north east Pacific, other scales are used for other parts of the globe. See w:Tropical cyclone scales#Comparisons across basins. Thryduulf (talk) 18:21, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose since I didn't formally do that in previous comments - thanks Thryduulf for that link, the classification scheme for storms is far messier than I had thought. Also note that there are strong arguments recently about how Saffir-Simpson is misleading concerning actual storm strength (for example this article). It adds nothing to maximum sustained winds (P2895), is inconsistent globally, and misleading. I believe it doesn't belong in wikidata. ArthurPSmith (talk) 15:32, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
- Not done @Ncfriend: maximum sustained winds (P2895) might work for you.
