Motivation
[edit]For copyright issues it is very useful for GLAMs to know the organisation who represent the copyright of the artist. This is also very useful for maintaining copyright in structured Commons as we might be able to do filtering for artists who are represented by an copyright organisation. - Comment How do you handle cases where different works of the same creator are represented by different entities? ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:20, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
- In general there is one representative per type of works (music, visual works, literature), if an artists is member of all those, we can include all of them. If some of the works are not represented by that organisation, we can use qualifiers and link to the exclusions. Let's asume a person is a painter and a musician, like Herman Brood (Q719447) and is represented by an organisation for visual works only, we can use qualifier applies to part (P518) -> visual arts (Q36649). I'm aware of three works of Francis Bacon (Q154340), ie Figure in a Landscape (Q3744872) that are not represented by Confédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Auteurs et Compositeurs (Q739586) (the umbrella organisation of Design and Artists Copyright Society (Q3705963)) but by Tate Britain (Q195436), but this is very rare. --Hannolans (talk) 06:41, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
- Ok, that's reasonable and fits in with how Wikidata does things well enough. Support ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:35, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
