Motivation[edit]

we get more and more images within GLAM cooperations or the websites of cultural institutions provide images in reliable quality. Within the many images it is helpful and necessary to point out the images from reliable sources as a special image property. This is also helpful to improve the use of reliable images and to encourage cultural institutions. Oursana (talk) 23:01, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

  • @Oursana: I adjusted your example to what I think you wanted, is this correct? Please add one or two more examples if you can find them. ArthurPSmith (talk) 19:14, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose We risk having too many image properties with slight differences. Qualifiers should be used to make this distinction, rather than a new property. I'm not even sure of the use case for this. "authorized" meaning authorized by whom? We should highlight images that are provided by GLAM partners, but they are not always the best images to illustrate a concept, so we shouldn't automatically give special status to such images. The property proposal also needs to clarify what the source of this information will be. MartinPoulter (talk) 13:15, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment This is indeed a little weird. I suggest a different approach: Why not mark the images as "authorized" directly in their Structured data on Commons? That way, we can have more than 1 authorized image for each concept in Wikidata, and it will not clog Wikidata with another P18-like property (which was pointed out by MartinPoulter) .Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 20:11, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose I agree with MartinPoulter and Vojtěch Dostál. It's metadata that's better stored on commons and in most cases the authorized image is likely the image we want in the main image property. ChristianKl12:06, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Not done, @Oursana, ArthurPSmith, MartinPoulter, ChristianKl: no consensus of proposed property at this time based on the above discussion. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 07:25, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
