- Motivation
Fandom (Q17459) is a wiki that provides hosting for open-licensed fandom content about subjects in popular culture, in more detail than is usually found on Wikipedias. It also provides an API Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:21, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Whats the use of this? MechQuester (talk) 19:36, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- "[Wikidata] is intended to provide a common source of data which can be used by Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, and by anyone else, under a public domain licence." Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:52, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
- Wikia is not hosted by Wikimedia. MechQuester (talk) 02:01, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
- Indeed not. I made no such claim. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:15, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

- I like the idea of crosslinking, but would it be better to create an item about each Wikia site with the URL as a normal property, then use main subject (P921) to link them to the topics? Since the wikis are more substantial than most things we use topic properties for, it seems reasonable to give them their own items; cf/ Wookieepedia (Q934052) or Memory Alpha (Q498824), two of the more notable ones. Andrew Gray (talk) 13:43, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
- This approach would be OK with me, provided the sites are all accepted as notable. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:15, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what our standards for site notability are on here (I suspect not-well-defined), but "completing a finite set, several of which are notable" seems not unreasonable. Perhaps something for the project chat... Andrew Gray (talk) 21:56, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
- I've posted a note there, inviting people to comment here. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 23:28, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

- I support creation of wikia items linked to the subject with main subject (P921) and perhaps vice versa linked by described by source (P1343). Lymantria (talk) 08:58, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
- Since a wikia could be created out of the blue (couldn't it?), I think we should avoid having items by default for these sites and a property linking the wikia is preferable. Strakhov (talk) 12:29, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
- Actually, that might suggest that neither would be appropriate. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:12, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- It does not; and we have plenty of precedence for external ID properties where the same applies. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:42, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- Do you have any specific examples of that? While I'm not aware of an external links guideline for Wikidata, many of the 'pedias have EL guidelines that these sites tend to fail. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:39, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
- Wiki Loves Monuments ID (P2186), page at OSTIS Belarus Wiki (P2490), WikiTree person ID (P2949), Statoids ID (P3175), DocCheck Flexikon De ID (P3292), WikiSkripta article ID (P3471), to name but a few. Wikipedias' EL guidelines have no standing here. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:56, 18 March 2017 (UTC)
- I wouldn't see those examples as being quite the same thing - while individual pages/IDs at those sites can be created on a whim, we have decided that the specific project warrants inclusion. In the same way, we might decide that eg. Wookieepedia should be included, but should not say any Wikia site by default. Perhaps an EL guideline here would be helpful. - Support Given how we now have properties for subreddits and Quora, I think it's good to also have one for Wikia wiki's. ChristianKl (talk) 12:52, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
