Motivation

The Australian Faunal Directory (Q2784883) lists some 85,000 publications on Australian animals, many of which include first descriptions of new species, or subsequent taxonomic revisions. Wikidata already includes identifiers for taxa in AFD Australian Faunal Directory ID (P6039) but not the corresponding identifier for the literature for those taxa. Adding AFD publications to existing Wikidata items could be done using a mapping I have constructed between AFD publications and external identifiers such as DOI (P356), Handle ID (P1184), JSTOR article ID (P888), BioStor work ID (P5315) etc. (see Ozymandias: a biodiversity knowledge graph (Q63687022)).
