Motivation[edit]
Notified participants of WikiProject Switzerland This request is similar to the one for Wikidata:Property proposal/archive-ouverte Unige ID of last year. It proposes a clearly defined ID to cover bibliometric items in Switzerland related to the University of St Gallen (many authors are still missing, I have to create them and this ID will be useful). I remind you all that the archives of local universities (primarily funded by cantons) are partially fragmented due to language barriers and imperfect federal coordination. As a result, many databases of smaller institutions lack sufficient quality to be integrated into Wikidata as IDs, but this one is of good quality.
This ID is a useful tool for supporting the ongoing project which aims to create items for Swiss researchers active in scientific fields on the long term, and I am slowly working on it.
In addition to that, it's also a useful reference for affiliation (P1416) and field of work (P101).
Please notice also that:
- the ID was originally a string based on names and surnames, that was what I saved in my notes, and I assume that they probably moved it to a simple number few months ago, although the old format can be accessed, see [1] and [2].
- the database has an ID also for articles, without "persons" in the url (see example), so if anyone wants to enlarge this proposal to include both IDs, fine with me.--Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 16:17, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

- Eihel actually the default and most appropriate option is "affiliation" since 1) some PhD students are not employed and 2) some articles show double or triple affiliations, but only one institution may be providing a salary. It is difficult to determine from the presence in an archive which institution is the one providing the salary. Although it is not clear how this trend originated here on Wikidata, in bibliometry the factual information is the affiliation listed in the article. While people are free to include also the information about the employer, which I totally support, , when uploading a large number of articles, using the "affiliation" is the most accurate option. I know no clear reason why Wikidata users started to believe that listing the employer first was "better," but I have heard this feedback before and I do not understand why people care so much since it increases the risk of mistakes (claiming something false).
