Discussion
[edit]- Question: In the HTML source I've found the short url http://www.mediaqueer.ca/node/$1 with a numericaL ID. For e.g. I Killed My Mother (Q2354576) the ID is "4388". And it seems the same ID and URL is also used for artists (Xavier Dolan (Q551861) → 6844). Numerical IDs are usually more stable and preferable to using slugs. Should wee use that one instead? --Kam Solusar (talk) 15:56, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- So the website seems to be Drupal based, so that's a node ID. This can't be changed so should be stable, but if you do a upgrade/migrate the website to a new version with export/import, or need to reinstall the website, there is no guarantee it stay the same, cf this website). So I am not convinced it would be more stable than the aliases, especially since this is not exposed explicitely, as it may mean that this was done on purpose to not have to deal with the headache of keeping it unchanged. --Misc (talk) 22:09, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- Interesting, didn't know that. In that case, using the slug as an ID seems to be just as good (or bad) as the node ID. --Kam Solusar (talk) 23:43, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- We could also play safe and have both, ideally, have the slug as principal, (like we do for twitter account),, fill the other as a qualifier with a bot or something. But I do think that's maybe overkill, I do not know the practice for that. maybe it is worth doing on a more general level. --Misc (talk) 08:20, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
