Wikidata:Books—WS produces editions[edit]

Hi. To note that Wikisource reproductions are generally editions, not the literary works, and the editions have their own items. Explained in the above link.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:39, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Billinghurst: The edit you made disconnects the Wikipedia article and the Commons category for the novel from the Wikidata item, making those not show up on the novel's front matter page on Wikisource anymore... PseudoSkull (talk) 06:41, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That a link disappears does not obviate the way to do it. If you plumb it together properly the link will show up, and now does. I am just exploring whether Commons cat should be part of the version, or the work.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:44, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I moved and specifically named the CommonsCat for the edition, and now it appears for the WS work. I encourage naming at Commons to indicate that they are edition specific. Yes the linking at WD and how it interlinks is/can be problematic, and why we still do inter-language wikisource links manually, WD fails us.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:53, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Journal of the Plague Year[edit]

When you moved the page, you left no redirect behind. Doing so broke the link on Wikipedia. --22:49, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

GemmaBot[edit]

Hi! Your bot seems to be creating duplicate (and empty) items: Q118876277, Q118876284, Q118876291. Do you plan to tidy this up?

Also, I can't see that you have discussed this bot anywhere (e.g. on Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot). Have I missed a discussion somewhere? Bovlb (talk) 20:15, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Bovlb: Oh, no, I apologize, I didn't realize it was making duplicate items every time I terminated the program. Please do delete those if you could. No, I'm not going to be doing any massive amounts of edits to Wikidata items, I only want to use the bot to create one or two Wikidata items automatically for me for each transcription I do on Wikisource. Just like on Wikisource, the bot edits are too minor and occasional to need a flood flag. I only wish to increase the speed at which I can do the work that needs to be done. PseudoSkull (talk) 20:20, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Deleted.
You don't need permission for semi-automation, essentially if every bot transaction is triggered by a user action, but it's still a good idea to consult (e.g. on Wikipedia:Project chat). Other editors may have useful suggestions on ways to improve the representation. Of course, it's probably best to start such a discussion armed with a few examples.
Happy editing! Bovlb (talk) 20:39, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I.e. it's semiautomation, not full automation. PseudoSkull (talk) 20:23, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category to Category for enWS[edit]

Hi. A link to the topic Q21262209 with a category at enWS is not correct. enWS categories only link to existing category items. Only enWN unilaterally links to a topic. Commons preferentially links category to category where the corresponding cat exists, and where it does not exist, then it can link to the topic. All a little round-and-about, however it is a reasonable schema.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:57, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New York's Harlem[edit]

I found the LCCN in the Library of Congress online database. It's always worth searching the LoC for US publications, since linking to the LCCN on WikiData creates a back-link from the LoC, putting the Wikisource copy in the hands of folks using the LoC database to find a copy. --EncycloPetey (talk) 01:47, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@EncycloPetey: Ok, thanks for letting me know. I'll look into more methods of getting the LCCN automatically, if OpenLibrary and IA both fail in their datasets. PseudoSkull (talk) 01:57, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
