RfC on Wikidata's primary sorting property[edit]

You recently participated in a deletion discussion for P107 - main type (GND). The discussion has been closed, as it is clear that a resolution won't come from PfD, and an RfC has been opened on the matter at Wikidata:Requests for comment/Primary sorting property. You are invited to participate there. Please note that this is a mass delivered message, and that I will not see any replies you leave on this page.

Athenian demes[edit]

Hi! I write in English because my French is little exercised. I saw your beautiful work on Athenian demes and I want to thank you, it's helping me a lot in linking the articles we are writing on it.wiki about demes (it:w:Categoria:Demi dell'antica Atene). Bye, --Epìdosis 15:38, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

Nominating properties for deletion[edit]

Hey Alexander Doria. When nominating a property for deletion, please put the template {{Property for deletion}} at the discussion page of the affected property and please notify the property proposer as well as the property creator about your action. This steps are part of the guidlines which are stated at the top of WD:PFD. --Pasleim (talk) 21:06, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Diogenes[edit]

About your interesting network, I want you to know that there isn't Diogenes of Sinope (Q59180). Thank you, --Epìdosis 09:58, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Epidosis. I'm really pleased to see that my work is still of interest. In its current state, the network only "grasps" philosophers that have been students of another philosopher, descending from Socrates. I have, since, enhanced the algorithm, so that the teachers are also retrieved. For instance, Diogenes does not seem to have a master — but certainly a wide number of pupils. I plan to publish an enhanced version, whenever I get the time.
I'm still wondering if I can descend all the way till the middle ages. Thanks to a genealogy of latin jurists, descending from Cicero, I may now trace, with some reliabilty, a continuity from Socrates to 250 AC roman law teachers. Alexander Doria (talk) 10:13, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
I've found a link between Socrates and Diogenes, passing through Antisthenes (Q179149). --Epìdosis 10:47, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Etruscian[edit]

Hi Alexander,

I'm currently working on adding language codes to monolingual text. You requested Etruscian in phab:T74126, and I would like to add ett. Per Help:Monolingual text languages, I want to see a real-world usage of it before adding it, though. Can you provide me with a statement and a reference for that statement that needs ett? Thanks, Adrian Heine (WMDE) (talk) 09:47, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Oh that's great news ! For an easy start, you can can state the "official name" — P1448 — of Q843729 as Clevsin. That's going to be really useful to record etruscan inscriptions (most of them being short enough to be put directly on Wikidata). Alexander Doria (talk) 10:05, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
@Adrian Heine (WMDE): I forgot the reference : you can use Q22944865, p. 162. Alexander Doria (talk) 10:28, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks :) It will probably take one or two weeks to be available. You can track progress on phab:T125066. Adrian Heine (WMDE) (talk) 11:05, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

eponymous magistrate (Q21580021)[edit]

Hello, when you created eponymous magistrate (Q21580021) did you have in mind eponymous archon (Q357829)? Should we merge the two items, or have you any examples of other officials with eponymous positions? --FocalPoint (talk) 10:32, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Stoicism[edit]

Hi! I was thinking about substituting all movement (P135) stoicism (Q48235) with more specific Old Stocism (Q16520827), Middle Stoicism (Q12776829) and New Stoicism (Q26883983). Do you agree? Bye, --Epìdosis 16:33, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

@Epìdosis:. Yes, that's Ok for me (and clearly more appropriate historically speaking). At the time I did the change, I even found a lot of stoics :) Alexander Doria (talk) 17:13, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Would it be harmful for your graph? --Epìdosis 20:03, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
In your opinion is Stoicorum Veterum Fragmenta (Q659701) a valid cryterium to define Old Stoics (all people whose fragments are contained in those four volumes are Old Stoics, with reference stated in (P248) Stoicorum Veterum Fragmenta (Q659701))? --Epìdosis 20:03, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
No it's not a problem for my graph :) It isn't automatically updated to wikidata (I could only rely to API calls so it would have been too heavy for Wikidata servers ; nowadays, the implementation of the sparql endpoint would make it possible in not a too costly way). Stoicorum Veterum Fragmenta (Q659701) seems a valid criterium (the edition is fairly old but everyone agrees it remains broadly up to date with the exception of some papyri fragments recovered since then). If there is some uncertainty I can also check with Dictionnaire des philosophes antiques (Q18604141). Alexander Doria (talk) 20:27, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Happy New Year![edit]

Wow! Two entries and both are completely false. Good work! Marcus Cyron (talk) 13:07, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
