Year value

[edit]

How can one enter a year, e.g. 1950, as value? It always adds automatically the Q and turns it into an item value, e.g. Alberto Tomba (Q1950) --Pasleim (talk) 19:32, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Pasleim: a trick while we find a solution insert a space before the number: {{Q'| 1950}} gives 1950 TomT0m (talk) 15:37, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

<> or css borders

[edit]

Shouldn't use both, it would improve readability and help with ambiguous word splits.

Alternately it could use italic mentions instead of everything above. d1g (talk) 21:24, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

more eye pleasant:

  • italic monospace italic
  • text monospace text

@D1gggg: What about color as used by Template:Statement. There is already aim to align the two templates. --Marsupium (talk) 08:08, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Marsupium: if anyone will implement change it would be good.
right "comparison" part at Template_talk:Statement#Tests seems okay.
We can change exact colours later if we avoid <> d1g (talk) 09:53, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed [1]. Thanks for reporting. Seems it was an unfinished copy-past from 2017. --Marsupium (talk) 17:15, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Parameters 4+ as additional properties or qualifiers

[edit]

The template data at Template:Claim seems to indicate that parameters 4+ are qualifiers, but the documentation examples on Template:Claim/doc suggest that parameters 4+ are additional properties on the subject item. Which should it be? Daask (talk) 00:17, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TomT0m:'s recent revision seem to indicate that he wants to go with qualifiers instead of properties.
I had understood the usage examples, specifically the Mahatma Gandhi (Q1001) one, as indicating that Template:Claim parameters 4+ were additional properties of the subject item rather than qualifiers. However, I now see that the Universe (Q1) example is an example of qualifiers, not properties. If it were properties, the example would use inception (P571) rather than start time (P580). Thus, the documentation is more ambiguous than I realized.
We have several options:
  1. Change the usage example of Mahatma Gandhi (Q1001) to reflect the correct usage of Template:Claim is qualifiers, not additional properties.
  2. Change the descriptive documentation of Template:Claim to reflect that template parameters may be either additional properties or qualifiers.
  3. Change Template:Claim itself to have new named parameters for additional properties or qualifiers.
Option 3 is more difficult to implement, but IMHO is the best option. I suspect other editors may prefer option 2 for convenience and not care about meaningful semantic markup, but it's not very future proof if the design of this template changes to better visually represent the relationships. Daask (talk) 13:43, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The example was bad, I changed them, but as the creator of this template I always intended them to represent qualifiers and not several claims. If it were so I guess the template would be name « claims ». I used it with qualifiers for years now, so … seems difficult to change now. author  TomT0m / talk page 14:09, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
