Label change to "tenured university professor"[edit]

I'm curious as to why the word "tenured" was added to the label. Not all university professors have earned tenure, and some are in non-tenured positions, so this seems too fine of a distinction. Kiwigirl3850 (talk) 17:50, 26 March 2015 (UTC)Kiwigirl3850[reply]

I'm not sure why it was added either. I've removed "tenured" as this is used many times for people that don't have tenure. Hazmat2 (talk) 19:16, 3 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Academic != university professor[edit]

I have a concern that the English label is "university professor" rather than "academic" which is more general. There are many academics who were lecturers but never were professors, whereas all professors would be considered academics. This is especially the case in the historical context of academics from 17th through 19th century United Kingdom.  — billinghurst sDrewth 08:26, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@billinghurst: sure but we would still need an item for university professors. TomT0m (talk) 17:42, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then we need to consider how to disambiguate this, especially as where this property started and how it has slowly migrated in terminology.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:25, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Problem of definition[edit]

There seems to problems with university teacher (Q1622272) and a corresponding professor (Q121594) about whether this or the other is "full professor" or the "triple professors" that we see in english language (full professor, associate professor, assistant professor). The English states professor (Q121594) as "full professor" and so it seems right for me. Nevertheless, university teacher (Q1622272) links to w:Professor (highest academic rank) which seems wrong. I have removed that so university teacher (Q1622272) now is a general university teacher. Hope that sorts it out. There is now a dangle English Wikipedia article. Perhaps to be merged. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 10:16, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

definition, again[edit]

Reading through the translations, and seeing how the item is being used through Wikidata, I get the impression that definitions are being mixed up here. The German translation refers to a different job than the Dutch destcription seems to refer to. What is the leading definition here? Probably the use cases need quite a bit of cleaning up between full professors and regular university or even college teachers. Effeietsanders (talk) 14:45, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
