LaTeX packages required[edit]

The description the appropriate string to show a concept in Tex or Latex leaves a lot of room for interpretation. One should modell the required TeX packages at least. For texvc compatible \LaTeX expression this is already implementd in the npm package texvcinfo.

$ curl -d "q=\color{blue}{\reals}" math.beta.wmflabs.org:10042/texvcinfo
{"texvcinfo":{"success":true,"checked":"\\color {blue}{\\mathbb {R} }",
"requiredPackages":["ams","color"],"identifiers":["\\mathbb{R}"]}}

Should the datatype be changed to Mathematical expression[edit]

MathTexLearner suggested in https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/rendered_TeX_string that it would be useful to have a property to store rendered Tex string. Currently, this property exists for storing the tex equivalent without having it rendered. WikiProject Informatics has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. • I'm not aware of a possibility to change the datatype from string to TeX? What leads you to believe this is possible? --- Jura 12:54, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • From past discussions on changing datatypes, it's my impression that changing a datatype is basically about manually changing a field in a database. That allows for changes where the datatype has the same underlying structure in the database (string->external ID) but not (string->item). Internally Mathematical expression is a string, so this should work. ChristianKl15:23, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pasleim, Sergey kudryavtsev, Daniel Mietchen, TomT0m, Snipre, Tobias1984:

IMHO all of TeX string (P1993), quantity symbol (LaTeX) (P7973), title in LaTeX (P6835) mean the same: the name of something in TeX/LaTeX. They have some specific applicability notes, but IMHO are easy to unify --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 12:48, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
