- Motivation
I'm working on improving items about railway accidents and in the majority of incidents involving goods/freight trains what that train was carrying is a significant factor in the accident but there does not appear to be any way to record this at present. This was originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/cargo but there was confusion about what exactly was being proposed, so I've split that proposal into this one and Wikidata:Property proposal/designed to carry. - Comment. Honestly, this is very confusing due to the fact that Wikidata – and in fact all Wikipedias – name accidents after the vehicles and flights that got destroyed or were operated. Take MS Herald of Free Enterprise (Q1607814). It can't be a roll-on/roll-off ship (Q473932) and a capsizing (Q1522772) at once. So please create two separate items and then come back here to rebuild your examples so that we understand exactly what is intended. Thierry Caro (talk) 07:39, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Thierry Caro: I don't understand what your problem is. Can you explain it a little bit more ?
- The examples do not let us know if this new property would be used on the item of the accident, on the item of the accidented vehicle or on the item of the flight number of the accidented vehicle. This is because they are all confused in our items most of the time. Thierry Caro (talk) 19:39, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Thierry Caro: It's probably a real problem, but not really the problem of this proposal. The kind of items it's to be used on is vehicles and type of vehicle unambiguously and there is absolutely no reference to accidents here. The solution is when relevant to create items, I guess, and to report this problems to d:WD:XLINK to record the usecase in perspective of automatic interwiki resolution when different articles should be linked but are centered on the véhicle or on the accident ... I'd be happy to collect this :) author TomT0m / talk page 19:48, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
