Motivation
[edit]For describing the body position of a human figure (standing, kneeling, sitting, making a particular hand gesture) in a painting or sculpture. This will make it possible to query, for example, depictions of women who are standing versus sitting in a particular body of artworks. Pharos (talk) 19:47, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Support David (talk) 08:19, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support More appropriate than shown with features (P1354). An alternative label for the property could be "pose". Jheald (talk) 15:25, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- Support but
in artwork
should be dropped. There might be circumstances that make this useful to describe events in real life. Thierry Caro (talk) 16:46, 3 October 2018 (UTC) - Support with Thierry Caro's correction. Mahir256 (talk) 17:39, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- Comment On Commons User:Jeblad has recently asked how one might search for eg "cat and dog playing" using structured data. It seems to me it would be useful to give this currently-proposed qualifier a broader scope, eg something like "depicted in pose or activity". Commons has quite extensive category hierarchies under c:Category:Animals by posture and c:Category:Animals_by_activity, part of broader hierarchies under c:Category:Categories by posture and c:Category:Categories by activity. - Comment I would support dropping
in artwork
and making this property "pose", or possibly also "body pose or movement". I find "activity" a bit generic, for something like tool use you could maybe have uses (P2283) as a qualifier.--Pharos (talk) 18:26, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Pharos: Whilst "activity" is rather generic, something quite generic is needed if we are to be able to capture the various activities in e.g. c:Category:Animals_by_activity -- which don't really fall into the class of 'tool use'. With a generic qualifier, it's easy enough to write a query to look for values in a particular class such as posture (Q8514257). Jheald (talk) 21:11, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Jheald: I think "body pose or movement" covers pretty much everything you'd want from "activity", without being so generic it could apply to inanimate objects, which is my concern.--Pharos (talk) 21:22, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
