- Motivation
There isn't currently an inverse for date of official opening (P1619). I've seen end time (P582) used, but it's probably not specific enough given that a lot of things which are closed still exist. Jc86035 (talk) 10:55, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
- Discussion
- English description of dissolved, abolished or demolished date (P576) says it can be organization or infrastructure.
- Knowledge of changes in the organization requires expertise or intensive work with documents, compare: "I cannot buy a milkshake anymore" vs "Company A is now bankrupt"; buildings are much easier to inspect. d1g (talk) 17:28, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
- @D1gggg: For places like railway stations and other infrastructure, the date of closure is usually made public for obvious reasons. The infrastructure is often not demolished on the same date, so dissolved, abolished or demolished date (P576) would be inappropriate for this. Jc86035 (talk) 03:12, 18 March 2017 (UTC)
- What's wrong with service retirement (P730) or end time (P582) with qualifier, e.g. of (P642) and transport (Q7590)? -- JakobVoss (talk) 12:37, 18 March 2017 (UTC)
- @JakobVoss: service retirement (P730) is too specific and it seems to be only applicable to classes of vehicles and other products. end time (P582) could be used, but using qualifiers instead for something that already has an inverse property would be inconsistent. Jc86035 (talk) 09:14, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
- broading the domain of service retirement (P730) should not be the problem, why not define it as reverse of date of official opening (P1619)? Have a look at its aliases this looks like a good match. I'd prefer some general properties "opening date" and "closing date" instead of multiple very similar unrelated properties with difficulties when to use which. -- JakobVoss (talk) 14:03, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
- @JakobVoss: That seems like a good idea, although the domain of date of official opening (P1619) would also need to be widened (and possibly the names changed, as "date of official opening" doesn't make sense for a class of vehicle). Jc86035 (talk) 11:08, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

- Support. I disagree with altering service retirement (P730) or date of official opening (P1619) to make them inverses as they are not really comparable - buildings don't get retired from service, (classes of) vehicles don't get officially opened. removed feature (P756) is also a poor match as closures can be reversed, (e.g. Minehead railway station (Q6864157) opened in 1874, closed in 1971 and reopened in 1976). - Comment Get ride of these specific properties which create confusion and use one property significant event (P793). Snipre (talk) 16:02, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Snipre: Then the several extant properties should be nominated for deletion to see if there's community consensus for doing so. Jc86035 (talk) 14:07, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
- This property can subclass end time (P582) while significant event (P793) doesn't. ChristianKl (talk) 21:27, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
